US drops charges against Saudi in Sept. 11 attacks

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico - The Pentagon has dropped charges against a Saudi at Guantanamo who was alleged to have been the so-called "20th hijacker" in the Sept. 11 attacks, his U.S. military defense lawyer said Monday.

Mohammed al-Qahtani was one of six men charged by the military in February with murder and war crimes for their alleged roles in the 2001 attacks. Authorities say al-Qahtani missed out on taking part in the attacks because he was denied entry to the U.S. by an immigration agent.

But in reviewing the case, the convening authority for military commissions, Susan Crawford, decided to dismiss the charges against al-Qahtani and proceed with the arraignment for the other five, said Army Lt. Col. Bryan Broyles, the Saudi's military lawyer.

As we take a reprieve from the 2008 elections for a day, we wanted to take note of a Chicago Tribune editorial that repeats the story of how Dick Cheney approved the shooting down of United Flight 93 on 9/11:

On the morning of Sept. 11, 2001, after planes had crashed into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, Vice President Dick Cheney was in the White House bunker and had to make a momentous recommendation to President Bush, who was in flight aboard Air Force One: that Bush authorize the military to shoot down any civilian airliners that might be hijacked and headed for other targets.

Bush concurred—and shortly after, the moment of truth arrived. A military aide approached Cheney: "There is a plane 80 miles out," he said. "There is a fighter in the area. Should we engage?" Cheney had thought through the complex implications of that question, had discussed it with his boss, and didn't hesitate to answer: "Yes." That plane was United Flight 93, which crashed in Pennsylvania before fighter jets could reach it.

The account originally appeared in the Washington Post years ago and came up in other stories about the post 9/11 frenzy, but nothing much was made of it. (Although whether Bush really had any role in the decision remains open to question.) The mainstream media accepted the White House account that United Flight 93 crashed before it was shot down, even though once Cheney gave his approval to shoot it down, it would probably only take a brief time before it was executed.

We're not passing judgment upon whether Flight 93 should have been shot down or not. That is, indeed, a very difficult decision. But BuzzFlash was watching contemporaneous reports come in at the time, and the first wire service stories strongly indicated that it had been shot down based on witnesses in the area and the details that they provided.

It was only later that a heroic narrative emerged that included a line that became part of the standard Bush "American Spirit" of battle theme: "Let's roll."

BuzzFlash can't say conclusively that Flight 93 was shot down, as Cheney had directed, but it certainly looks that way.

Questions Surround Homeland Security's Presence in Waterloo

May 9, 2008--People in Waterloo are trying to figure out what sort of operation federal officials are conducting in town. This week, the Department of Homeland Security took-over and sealed-off the grounds of the National Cattle Congress on the west side of Waterloo.

Thursday night, our crew went to investigate, but security guards told them to stay across the street from the property. Our camera caught pictures of elaborate ventilation systems going into the buildings. There were dozens of cars coming in and out with license plates from surrounding states, and even as far away as Georgia and Texas.

Hi everybody,

Yesterday we had our first 11th of every month 911truth street action in New Zealand. Martin, (who found me on this site after I announced that I wanted to start the movement over here), came down from Auckland (150km) and joined me on my market stall in Raglan. It may have only 3000 souls but with people from all over the world ending up in this town and visitors from Auckland and Hamilton it is a very diverse community, and the reaction to the first confrontation with 911 truth was for many a confirmation off what they already suspected. According to Martin he had never seen such open curiosity and the will to learn. We only had one guy saying the buildings were build like shit because he had seen " the documentary" but even he was ready to learn more after we showed him the collapse of building 7. I had brought my laptop for that purpose and it worked a treat. Not many people here know about WTC 7 and it really helps to show them the collapse. No aggression and a gloriously sunny day made the market busier then it would usually be in the winter months, and Martin had a lot of DVD's with a lot of 911 movies, he has to sell them for NZ$ 2,- because he is on a pension and can not afford to give them away, and there were people that took copies from all the different ones.

Today is the release date for the short documentary film "The Red Pill." The film, less than 20 minutes in length, is not meant for "the choir" and is instead meant as an introduction to the world of the shadow government, 9/11 truth and the importance of a new 9/11 investigation. The film can be viewed and downloaded for free at Google Video.

This film was independently financed and is considered a labor of love. There is no profit motive involved. Not one cent will be made off this movie. It is there purely as an attempt at educating people about this dark side of American history. If it wakes up even one mind, it will be worth it. We hope you enjoy it and share it with friends and family members.

'Truthers' are overlooking key point about 9/11: Human nature

So, let's make amends. Johnson isn't a crackpot. Her 9/11 theories are crackpot conspiracy fantasies. The people with whom she shares her crackpot theories include a great many smarter-than-you-ever-dreamed-of-being narcissists and social cynics. And basing a vote affecting public policy on such cynical vanity is wrong, in my book. Beyond that, I will say Karen Johnson is tough as well as lovely, and she probably has used critical Republic editorials to raise campaign fundsin her Mesa district.

Dozens of Johnson's fellow crack . . . er, conspiracy-believers, also have come to Johnson's defense. I've talked to several. Actually, I've been talked to by several.

"Truthers," as they are known, want to convince you. They have mountains of data. They have armies of experts. And they universally believe that those of us in the media who fail to see their truth are lazy goldbrickers or in league with the Great Satan, Bush.

But in all their mountains of data, there is a hole that the truthers themselves cannot explain. It is, simply, that the world is made of humans. And that includes governments.

For all their reams of analysis about the tensile strength and melting point of reinforced steel, the truthers are notoriously short of real people saying real things, like: "Yes, it was me. God help me for what I did, but I packed a thermite bomb under support girders at the World Trade Center."

Nobody has come forward to concede it was a drone flying into the side of the WTC, and that - heaven help me, too - I was the one directing it from the basement of the Pentagon. None of the hundreds of real humans who would have had to be involved in such a conspiracy has said boo. Not one has slobbered in a New York bar about the horror he committed. Not one has made a mistake.

The truthers, including the indisputably sincere Mrs. Johnson, know what really happened. They just don't grasp human nature..."

9/11 Contradictions: Mohamed Atta’s Mitsubishi and His Luggage

At the core of the official story about 9/11 is the claim that the four airliners that crashed that day had been taken over by a band of al-Qaeda hijackers led by Mohamed Atta. No proof was ever provided for this claim. But various kinds of evidence have been offered, the most important of which was reportedly found in Atta’s luggage after the attacks. The materials in this luggage were said to confirm the suspicion that the planes had been hijacked by Atta and fellow Muslims. As Joel Achenbach wrote in a Washington Post story on September 16, 2001:

Atta is thought to have piloted American Airlines Flight 11, the first to slam into the World Trade Center. A letter written by Atta, left in his luggage at Boston's Logan Airport, said he planned to kill himself so he could go to heaven as a martyr. It also contained a Saudi passport, an international driver's license, instructional videos for flying Boeing airliners and an Islamic prayer schedule. (“’You Never Imagine’ A Hijacker Next Door.”)

This discovery was clearly very helpful in making the case against Atta and al-Qaeda.

But why was Atta’s luggage there to be discovered? Achenbach said: “Officials believe that Atta and [Abdul] Alomari rented a car in Boston, drove to Portland, Maine, and took a room Monday night at the Comfort Inn . . . . They then flew on a short flight Tuesday morning from Portland to Boston, changing to Flight 11.”

But why did Atta’s luggage not make it on to Flight 11? A 9/11 staff statement suggested that it was a tight connection, saying: “The Portland detour almost prevented Atta and Omari from making Flight 11 out of Boston. In fact, the luggage they checked in Portland failed to make it onto the plane” (Staff Statement No. 16, June 16, 2004). When The 9/11 Commission Report appeared the following month, however, this suggestion was missing. Indeed, the Commission, after saying that “Atta and Omari arrived in Boston at 6:45,” added that “American Airlines Flight 11 [was] scheduled to depart at 7:45” (9/11 Commission Report [henceforth 9/11CR], 1-2).

Internet social broadcasting service cracking down on anyone daring to question the government

BlogTalkRadio is an internet-based social broadcaster that allows users to set up and host their own radio talk-show with nothing more than a phone and an internet connection...as long as they don't question the government.

As Brian McLain found out, daring to bring up questions about the government's official 9/11 fairy tale will not be tolerated by the thought police at BlogTalkRadio. Until recently, he was host of 'The Angry Scotsman' program hosted on the BlogTalkRadio site. His program was quickly cancelled, however, and his archive of previous episodes purged from the Web after the BTR censors found out about his plan to host an episode dedicated to questioning the official 9/11 story.
