My talk with Richard Johnson of the New York Post

Note: My Sprint Katana model phone only has an 18 second record function and AGAIN -- like at the Dan Rather presentation -- I didn't have a way to record this conversation. I would have if I could. Some other Truther is going to have to give me some pointers on recording phone conversations. If it's of any consolation, however, I have already purchased a JVC HDD camcorder for the upcoming April 5, 2007 Scott Ritter presentation at UTPA.

As I was feeing pretty hot-headed this morning after I posted the story “H'WOOD'S 9/11 IDIOT BRIGADE” I decided to call the New York Post at 212-930-8500 to put forth a question I had about its gossip piece.

The first individual I spoke to was a man with a thick New York accent who was immediately very rude. Because I didn’t have an entire copy of today’s New York Post in front of me, and didn’t know the exact page of the article I was looking for, he was giving me a hard time. “You’re giving me misinformation,” he kept repeating over and over. “The article you are looking for is not in the opinion section.”

Post 9-11 Backdating Issues: The War at Home

Thursday March 22, 5:04 am ET

James A. Kaplan submits: A recent lead article in the Wall Street Journal, “Companies Say Backdating Used in Days After 9/11” (March 7, 2007), was an obvious attempt to pluck at the readers’ heartstrings. In my case, it worked.

The article reads, in part, ..the nation’s stock markets were closed from Sept. 11 to Sept. 14. When they reopened the following week, the Dow Jones Industrial Average skidded more than 14%, in the worst full week for the blue-chip average since Germany invaded France in May 1940. Scores of companies rushed to grant options during the market’s trough…. some companies said it was pure happenstance, while others said it was intended to help motivate executives through the difficult period. But until recently none had admitted the award dates reflected improper backdating.

The boundaries of academic freedom
By Alex Amend

Former University of Wisconsin lecturer Kevin Barrett's new book, "Truth Jihad: My Epic Struggle Against the 9/11 Big Lie," is due out this month. The work, a culmination of Barrett's now infamous class and his personal journey hitherto, is the most recent reminder of a higher education sore spot: academic freedom.

Barrett's introductory class on Islam involved a two-week study on the events of Sept. 11, including a look into conspiracy theories held by groups like the 9/11 Truth Movement, of which Barrett is a member.

The ensuing uproar in Wisconsin, from calls in the government for Barrett's resignation to an academic defense of diversity of ideas, raised a question: Does a line exist?

The University of Minnesota Board of Regents' definition states, "Academic freedom is the freedom to discuss all relevant matters in the classroom, to explore all avenues of scholarship, research, and creative expression, and to speak or write as a public citizen without institutional discipline or restraint."

ANTI-WAR RALLY JAMS MIDTOWN

By DANIEL FRIEDMAN

March 19, 2007 -- Thousands of protestors marched through Midtown yesterday to call for the immediate withdrawal of American troops from Iraq.

A hodgepodge of organizations and individuals - ranging from local unions to 9/11 conspiracy theorists - joined members of United for Peace and Justice to walk from Bryant Park to the United Nations, two days before the fourth anniversary of the U.S. invasion.

They took an indirect route that included portions of Second and Third avenues.

"If there hadn't been a strong anti-war movement, where else would we be right now? Syria? Iran?" said actor-activist Tim Robbins, who participated in the march.

"This isn't a fringe lefty movement. This is the voice of the people."

The march was peaceful and there were no arrests.

Bloomberg To Congress: 9/11 Victims Need More Help

(CBS/AP) WASHINGTON New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg asked Congress today to reopen the compensation fund for 9/11 terrorism victims, saying the city could otherwise lose billions of dollars to lawsuits.

Bloomberg says just because injuries and illnesses have been slower to emerge should not disqualify people from getting the help they need.

Line-of-Duty Death Benefits for Officer’s Work After 9/11

By SEWELL CHAN

The New York City Police Pension Fund has approved line-of-duty death benefits for the family of Cesar A. Borja, the police officer whose death in January became a symbol of the plight of those who worked in Lower Manhattan after 9/11.

The fund’s board unanimously approved the benefits on March 14. The decision, which was expected, did not resolve the question of what caused the chronic lung ailment that killed Officer Borja and what role his work in Lower Manhattan might have had in the development of the disease.

Under a state law signed by Gov. George E. Pataki in June 2005, public employees who took part in the World Trade Center rescue, recovery or cleanup efforts are presumed, if they became permanently disabled because of certain medical conditions, to have gotten sick in connection with the disaster.

Kids Who Lost Parent On 9/11 Suffer

A study released yesterday showed that three-quarters of children who lost a parent on 9/11 suffered from psychiatric illnesses after the attacks, including anxiety disorder, posttraumatic stress and depression. Shocking, I know. Researchers at New York Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center monitored 45 kids (average age of nine) who had lost a parent for two years following the attacks. Before 9/11, only one-third of them had mental health problems. They were compared to 34 children who had not lost a parent, and the number of psychiatric problems suffered by the former group more than doubled after the attacks. Findings also revealed that children who lost a parent are 10 times as likely to suffer post-traumatic stress disorder than those who did not.

Iraq war anniversary misses 9/11 focus

It's the fourth anniversary of the start of the Iraq War. It also feels like the anniversary of the end of our national focus on bringing the architect of 9/11 to justice.

Just a quick tour of the numbers, to help us get our bearings.

According to the Pentagon, there are about 27,000 U.S. troops in Afghanistan — the highest number since the October 2001 invasion. They are part of a NATO-led force of around 50,000. According to the Department of Defense, there have been 369 American service personnel killed in Afghanistan, as well as 676 who were wounded and unable to return to action.

In Iraq, there are upwards of 142,000 U.S. troops. The Associated Press puts the current number killed at 3,217. Those wounded and unable to go back: 10,685, according to the DOD.

Was the World Trade Center brought down deliberately on Sept. 11, 2001, for the purpose of – are you ready for this? – eliminating records of government investigations into corporate fraud? That's the implication of a blog posting by Rosie O'Donnell about the worst terror attack in American history.

In her March 15 posting, titled "wtc7," on her Rosie.com blog, the controversial TV personality and co-host of ABC's popular "The View" morning show, starts off by recounting popular conspiracy "factoids" regarding the World Trade Center's Building No. 7, which collapsed after the two larger "twin towers" fell.

O'Donnell writes:

* The fires in WTC 7 were not evenly distributed, so a perfect collapse was impossible.

* Silverstein said to the fire department commander "the smartest thing to do is pull it."

March 18, 2007 -- Mayor Bloomberg killed a study on the city's response to the 9/11 attacks after his lawyers said they did not want a report that cited any missteps or dealt with "environmental" or "respirator issues," says a former city official.

City lawyers raised fears that the proposed "after-action report" - which the U.S. Department of Justice had offered to fund - could lead to criticism and fuel lawsuits, David Longshore, former director of special programs for the city's Office of Emergency Management, told The Post.

"The Bloomberg administration acted to sweep any potential problems under the rug," said Longshore, who was trapped in a loading dock outside the WTC while both towers collapsed. He later developed sinusitis and throat polyps and sued the city.

HILL IN 9/11 'SHOP' CHOP AT W.

By STEPHANIE GASKELL, Post Correspondent

March 19, 2007 -- Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton last night used a celeb-studded Midtown fund-raiser to blast President Bush for telling New Yorkers to "go shopping" after 9/11.

Clinton, introduced at the event by ex-prez hubby Bill, said Bush should have played a bigger role as the nation - and New York, in particular - struggled to heal.

"What were we asked to do? Go shopping," she said. "I think America is ready to be asked to do something besides 'go shopping.'

"We are still waiting to be asked to play a part."

At a news conference a day after the terrorist attacks, Bush declared, "We cannot let the terrorists achieve the objective of frightening our nation to the point where we don't conduct business, where people don't shop."

Clinton raised more than $1 million last night at the Sheraton New York Hotel where participants included Ron Howard, Chevy Chase and Ron Perelman.
