Firemen douse Rudy’s image as 9/11 hero
Union bid to halt White House run

Sarah Baxter, New York

FIRE battalion chief Jim Riches brought up his son to be one of New York’s “bravest”, like him. The young Jim followed his father into the New York fire department and died at the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.

What followed turned his heartbroken father into a relentless opponent of Rudy Giuliani, then mayor of New York. With other families of 9/11 victims, Riches has vowed to torpedo Giuliani’s prospects of winning the White House by attacking his greatest source of strength, his reputation as a hero that day.

“We’re going to follow him around the country,” said Riches. “We want all of America to know he is not the man he says he is.”

Rosie O'Donnell, hosting ABC's popular "The View" morning show, came to the defense of terrorist Khalid Sheikh Mohammed today, suggesting the government elicited a false confession from the 9/11 mastermind by using torture, robbing him of his humanity and treating him like an animal.

A transcript of Mohammed's confession to 31 terrorist attacks was released today, but O'Donnell argued it came only after having a "hood on his head and being beaten to death."

The hood was a reference to the Abu Ghraib prison scandal in Iraq in which U.S. military personnel were punished for humiliating prisoners.

Bin Laden’s Confession; is that what it is

Bin Laden’s Confession; is that what it is?

March 15, 2007 -- The tape released by the Pentagon on December 13, 2001 in which Osama Bin Laden is seen describing the events of 9/11 to a paraplegic visitor, Khaled Al-Harbi, is as close to a confession of prior knowledge as anyone is going to get at a dinner gathering.

Bin Laden: So if the plane hits the building here [gestures with hands], the portion of the building above will collapse. That was the most we could hope for, the most we expected: that the floors above the point of entry would fall. We were at one of the canyons at the time of the event, and we knew since Thursday that it would be on Tuesday. So we had the radio on.

That is enough for me, still, there are those who doubt and might say, well, the event had already taken place and Bin Laden knew enough detail to make up a story and take credit. Yes, there are those who might say that and for various reasons.

Minneapolis / Confession doesn't stop conspiracy theories
Some suspect sinister plot behind 2006 Uptown slaying of Zebuhr, a Scholars for 9/11 Truth member

Pioneer Press

A teenage gunman admitted shooting Michael Zebuhr in a panic during a robbery in Minneapolis' Uptown neighborhood a year ago, but the Internet still buzzes with conspiracy theories about who killed the visiting doctoral student and why.

Zebuhr's death, which prompted outcries against random violence, also sparked talk of sinister plots involving the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks and a government coverup.

Even with shooter Billy Ray Deshawn Johnson scheduled to get a 30-year prison sentence today, the conspiracy theories live on.

Zebuhr, 25, was a Clemson University student and member of a group called Scholars for 9/11 Truth, which contends there is evidence the U.S. government orchestrated the Sept. 11 attacks, or at least allowed them to happen.

We did it! Update to: TAKE ACTION: House Vote on Landmark Whistleblower Bill Endangered by Poisoned Pen Amendments
(Update note) Great work, everyone!! Now... let's push this through the Senate. Gee, why would they want to veto whistleblower protections.. hmm?

Sent by the National Whistleblower Center (, this action should be taken by every reader, immediately. We encourage you not just to send an email, but to call your Representative and follow up with a fax--"Please Vote NO on Amendments 3 and 4 to H.R. 985, the Whistleblower Protection Enhancement Act." (For quick access to information on how to contact your Rep, see the link to's handy tool, in our left-hand column here under "Get Involved.") If we are ever to truly determine and expose the truth of 9/11/01, it must be possible for whistleblowers to come forward without fear of retaliation. Just this weekend we learned, through an FBI whistleblower, that illegal, warrantless spying has been more widespread than we even imagined. Please help support more in coming forward.

Al-Qaida No. 3 says he planned 9/11

By KATHERINE SHRADER, Associated Press Writer

Khalid Sheikh Mohammed confirmed his notoriety as al-Qaida's most ambitious operational planner when, according to military transcripts, he confessed to planning and supporting 31 terrorist attacks, topped by 9/11, that killed thousands of innocent victims since the early 1990s.

The gruesome attacks range from the suicide hijackings of Sept. 11, 2001 — which killed nearly 3,000 — to a 2002 shooting on an island off Kuwait that killed a U.S. Marine.

Many plots, including a previously undisclosed plan to kill several former U.S. presidents, were never carried out or were foiled by international counterterror authorities.

Las Vegas' Stardust casino imploded

By RYAN NAKASHIMA, AP Business Writer

From Stardust to just dust. The Las Vegas Strip's first mass-market casino-hotel was imploded early Tuesday in a hail of fireworks to make way for Boyd Gaming Corp.'s $4.4 billion megaresort Echelon.

Hundreds of people partied beneath tents and on makeshift patios before Boyd chairman Bill Boyd's four grandsons pushed a plunger to detonate the former Stardust casino. The blast generated a massive dust cloud that chased the revelers into cars, buses and nearby casinos.

"It hurts. We cried," said Sheila Navarro, 51, a school supplies buyer from Oxnard, Calif., who took shelter in the nearby Frontier casino-hotel. She came with three sisters, her mother, an aunt and a brother-in-law to say farewell to the casino she's gambled at for more than 30 years.

"It's very hard for me to find another casino to go to," she said. "Maybe in two years, three years, I'll have different feelings, but right now, my heart is broken."

September 11 suspect gets Guantanamo hearing

U.S. military officials have held initial hearings for three terrorism suspects at Guantanamo Bay, including the alleged mastermind of the September 11 attacks on the United States, the Pentagon said on Monday.

Pentagon spokesman Bryan Whitman said a three-member panel examined the case of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed at a closed hearing on Saturday at the U.S. military prison camp on Cuba.

Mohammed is among 14 prisoners identified by U.S. authorities as "high-value" terrorism suspects and transferred to Guantanamo last September from secret CIA prisons abroad.

The hearings to determine whether the suspects meet U.S. authorities' definition of an enemy combatant began on Friday, the Pentagon said.

The cases of two suspects -- Ramzi bin al Shaibah, a Yemeni also accused of involvement in the September 11 attacks, and alleged senior al Qaeda figure Abu Faraj al Libi of Libya -- were examined on Friday, Whitman said.
