AGs submit testimony in 9/11 wiretapping issue

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Telecommunications companies that allowed the federal government to listen in on private telephone calls without warrants after 9/11 should not be immune from legal action, the attorneys general of four states recently argued to Congress.

The group submitted the testimony last week to the Senate Judiciary Committee. President Bush is seeking full immunity for all involved companies in a Senate bill, but the attorneys general claim that granting it would kill an investigation into them.

How Bush and his speeches are reminiscent of the fifties and the tactics of Senator Joseph McCarthy, who rode the Communist menace to power and impugned the patriotism of anyone who dared to disagree with him.

This tactic was so successful that Richard Nixon established sufficient momentum through smearing political rivals in California all the way to the vice presidency under President Dwight Eisenhower.

With the current popularity and frequent showings of the sixties' political chiller "The Manchurian Candidate" the specter of McCarthyism has become all the more vivid. James Gregory portrays a senator manipulated by ruthless wife Angela Lansbury, who in some ways makes Sherlock Holmes' perpetual nemesis Dr. Moriarty look like a naïve schoolboy.

Gregory's penchant is to deliver numbers to the press of the number of Communists in the U.S. State Department at that time. The number perpetually varies, as was the case with Senator McCarthy.

This is really strange as the author of this article seems to think that making a connection between the left and 9/11 truth will somehow hurt the left.

It appears the good folks at HBO must have been extremely concerned that "Real Time" host Bill Maher was going to lose many of his viewers as a result of his tossing 9/11 truthers from the audience two weeks ago.

After all, Maher even admitted at the opening of the discussion segment of Friday's program, albeit almost apologetically, "I'm not going to pretend that we have ideological balance on this panel."

Ideological balance? Are you kidding?

"There is a subset of Paul supporters who believe 9/11 was an inside job by the U.S. government."

Bloomberg Remark Sparks Heated 9/11 Hero Debate
NEW YORK (AP) ―

The recent disclosure that a police detective who died of a lung ailment after toiling for months at ground zero may have been improperly injecting drugs has prompted a heated debate in New York City over what constitutes a hero.

The argument over the life and death of James Zadroga echoes a situation in Boston, where two lauded firefighters who died in a blaze were later found to have been intoxicated on the job. One had a blood alcohol level of 0.27 when he died. The other had cocaine in his system.

The disclosures revived old concerns about police officers and firefighters, whose high-stress jobs have long been thought to make them prime candidates for drug and alcohol abuse.

October 30, 2007 -- Washington, DC – Today, the House of Representatives passed U.S. Senator Joseph R. Biden, Jr.’s (D-DE) Procedural Fairness for September 11th Victims Act (H.R. 3921, S. 2106). Earlier this month, the Senate unanimously passed Sen. Biden’s legislation, which ensures that those 9/11 victims and their families who opt out of receiving compensation through the 9/11 Victims Compensation Fund and bring civil suits instead, have access to all the information relevant to the case. The bill now heads to the White House for the President to sign into law.

One of O’Reilly’s staffers confronted Rosie O’Donnell during a book signing last Friday night. The person appeared to be Jesse Watters, longtime “Factor” producer who is known to track down celebrities and news makers who refuse to appear on O’Reilly’s show. Watters wanted to know why Rosie would not respond to numerous requests for her to come on the “Factor.” Rosie told Watters that if O’Reilly wants her on his show, he should personally call her.

When asked about her controversial views of 9/11, Rosie denied saying the terror attack was an “inside job.” Rosie decided it was time to throw out Mr. Watters when he wanted to know her thoughts on WTC Building 7. Watters was removed from the book store at that point. Watch:

I honestly don't know what to make of this . . .I hope Rosie goes to bat for us.

Susan Faludi on 9/11 Myths and Truths

Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and author Susan Faludi has never been afraid of controversial topics. Her two previous books, Backlash: The Undeclared War Against American Women, (which won the National Book Critics Circle Award), and Stiffed: The Betrayal of the American Man, took on touchy issues of gender politics and feminism. Likewise, her provocative new book, The Terror Dream: Fear and Fantasy in Post-9/11 America (Metropolitan), concerns sensitive cultural territory, the nation's myths about 9/11. Does Faludi worry about treading on sacred ground? "I'm used to being beaten up," she says wryly. "You try as best you can not to think about that while you're writing it. A friend of mine stuck on my refrigerator door many years ago this little slogan she had on a calendar, a Yugoslav proverb that said, 'Tell the truth and run.' " TIME's Andrea Sachs spoke with the author at her home in San Francisco.

McALLEN, September 13 - What really happened on Sept. 11, 2001? Why did the Twin Towers collapse so quickly? Why do people still question the validity of the plan that hit the Pentagon?

McAllen residents Eloy Gonzalez and Leo Krayola say they will continue to raise awareness of such issues. On the 11th of each month they hold a banner up, sometimes on a busy street corner in McAllen, sometimes outside the offices of The Monitor and Entravision.

“The response is mostly favorable. I would say 95 percent of the people give us a thumbs up, or honk their horns. About five percent raise their middle finger. We plan to keep this up,” Krayola said.

Gonzalez said there is a growing movement of skeptics who do not buy the government’s account of what happened on Sept. 11. Much of the discussion takes place on the Internet, on forums such as blogs and MySpace.
