President Kohler: Germany’s military presence in Afghanistan is also necessary to protect our economic interests

excerpt from: Horst Köhler

Wikipedia, 2 June 2010

"[W]e -including [German] society as a whole- are coming to the general understanding that, given this [strong] focus and corresponding dependency on exports, a country of our size needs to be aware that where called for or in an emergency, military deployment, too, is necessary if we are to protect our interests such as ensuring free trade routes or preventing regional instabilities which are also certain to negatively impact our ability to safeguard trade, jobs and income."

Washington supported mediation by Brazil and Turkey when it did not expect them to succeed and turned its back when they accomplished exactly what the Obama administration said it sought from Iran.

US bill to link 'terror' to citizenship

http://www.presstv.com/detail.aspx?id=125722&sectionid=3510203

excerpt from: US bill to link 'terror' to citizenship

Press TV, 7 May 2010

New bipartisan legislation introduced in US Congress says Americans involved in terrorist activities should be denied their right of citizenship.

If passed, the Terrorist Expatriation Act (*) would strip any American that provides material support or resources to foreign terrorists from their citizenship.

"As the attempted terrorist attack on Times Square showed us again, our enemies today are even more willing than the Nazis or fascists were to kill innocent civilian Americans [in WWII]," Sen. Joe Lieberman, I-Connecticut, told reporters on Thursday, according to CNN.

"Our enemies today," he said, "are stateless actors who don't wear uniforms and plot against Americans abroad and here in the United States."

Lieberman, the chairman of the Senate Homeland Security Committee and a staunch supporter of the Israeli regime, argued that the proposed bill is the expansion of the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1940.

ABC News website, 5 May 2010

"Good Morning America" anchor George Stephanopoulos interviewed Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad a day after Ahmadinejad spoke before the U.N.'s conference on the Nuclear Proliferation Treaty Monday, claiming his country's nuclear program was not a threat to global security, but the United States' is.

The following is an excerpt from the transcript of the interview, which took place on Tuesday, May 4, 2010.

STEPHANOPOULOS: One final question. There's a new documentary out that says that Osama Bin Laden is living in Tehran. And the subject of the documentary, a man named Alan Parrot, one of the world's foremost falconers living in Iran, says he's spoken to Osama bin Laden several times since 2003. Is Osama bin Laden in Tehran?

AHMADINEJAD: Your question is laughable.

STEPHANOPOULOS: Why?

The President on Times Square: "But as Americans, and as a Nation, We Will Not Be Terrorized"

The White House website, 4 May 2010

Before I begin, I hope you don’t mind -- I indicated to Jim Owen that I want to give the American people a brief update on the investigation into the attempted terrorist attack in Times Square. A suspect is now in custody and is being questioned. The American people can be assured that the FBI and their partners in this process have all the tools and experience they need to learn everything we can. That includes what, if any, connection this individual has to terrorist groups. And it includes collecting critical intelligence as we work to disrupt any future attacks. Justice will be done, and we will continue to do everything in our power to protect the American people.

Obama advisor: The threat of nuclear terrorism constitutes one of the greatest threats to our national security

excerpt from "Briefing by Press Secretary Robert Gibbs and Assistant to President for Counterterrorism and Homeland Security John Brennan"

States News Service, 12 April 2010

"The threat of nuclear terrorism is real, it is serious, it is growing, and it constitutes one of the greatest threats to our national security and, indeed, to global security.

Over the past two decades there has been indisputable evidence that dozens of terrorist groups have actively sought some type of weapon of mass effect. Relative to other such potential weapons -- which include biological, chemical, radiological -- the consequences and impact of a nuclear attack would be the most devastating as well as the most lasting.

Thus, the ability to obtain a nuclear weapon and to use it is the ultimate and most prized goal of terrorist groups. Al Qaeda is especially notable for its longstanding interest in acquiring weapons-useable nuclear material and the requisite expertise that would allow it to develop a yield producing improvised nuclear device.

Néjàd vu, all over again: The media, ‘pretext’, context, & 9/11

The mainstream media's favorite scapegoat, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, resurfaced on Saturday amidst reports that he called the attacks of September 11, 2001 "a big lie."

According to the immediate and rabid response of virtually every Western news network around, this was simply the latest insane claim of the same raving madman who has previously threatened to wipe a foreign state off the map and denied the Holocaust.
