U.S. May Charge Alleged 9/11 Leader With The Death Of Daniel Pearl

U.S. military officials intend to charge Guantanamo Bay captive Khalid Sheikh Mohammed with the murder of Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl, according to a Time magazine report.

U.S. officials have identified Mohammed as the al Qaida mastermind of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, and President Bush has said he's a likely candidate for a war-crimes trial.

But the Pentagon's chief war-crimes prosecutor told The Miami Herald on Friday that the Time report may be premature; prosecutors are still studying the case files of Mohammed and 13 other so-called high-value detainees who were turned over to the military by the CIA.

Captured in Pakistan in March 2003, Mohammed had been held in secret CIA detention until his Labor Day transfer to the Guantanamo detention center at the U.S. Navy base in southeast Cuba.

People often say 3,000 people died on 9/11. I have done so several times. That's not accurate. The amount of people who died on the day of 9/11, was 2,973.

As just said, "Some 70,000 people are sick as a result of the toxic air after 9/11."

Some of the individuals affected by the environmental impact of 9/11 are quite literally, "the walking dead."

I do apologize for referring to them as such. It is callous. However, like most painful truths we have uncovered, describing it as succinctly as possible, is important.

Let it be known that I have the deepest respect for the first responders. The deepest respect.

I think it is important that from now on, people do their best to say, "2973+", when describing the amount of people who perished on 9/11.

If we are not accurate, then the sick and the dying are forgotten.

People often say 3,000 people died on 9/11.

The amount of people who died on the day of 9/11, was 2,973+.

Rice: Does Anyone Really Believe I'd Ignore A Terror Warning?

Ron Brynaert
Published: Thursday October 12, 2006

Early Thursday morning, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice denied that she gave the "brush-off" to an "impending terrorist attack" warning by former C.I.A. director George J. Tenet and his counterterrorism coordinator in July of 2001, two months before the September 11 attacks, which was first reported in Washington Post investigative reporter's Bob Woodward's latest book State of Denial.

The former National Security Adviser, interviewed on Detroit's Paul Smith Show on WJRI Radio, said that the "assertion that [she] would hear about a specific attack and not do anything" is "obviously just not true."

"On July 10, 2001, the book says, Mr. Tenet and his counterterrorism chief, J. Cofer Black, met with Ms. Rice at the White House to impress upon her the seriousness of the intelligence the agency was collecting about an impending attack," David E. Sanger reported for the New York Times in September. "But both men came away from the meeting feeling that Ms. Rice had not taken the warnings seriously."

Donna Marsh O'Connor: Presidential Press Conference in Three Notes

By Donna Marsh O’Connor

October 11, 2006

If the American people have, indeed, free and fair elections the Republicans and George W. Bush’s free pass will be voted out this November. These are the three key notes George W. Bush hit today, October 11th, 2006 in the mode of the authoritative father, the ultimate use of paternal rhetoric:

The economy is strong, stupid.

I went to war with Iraq and will the stay the course there because it was the right thing to do.

There is no red line as it pertains to North Korean threats against us because Japan and China will be with us. Hear this loud, America: There is no red line that Bush will name before the election. There is no plan for our defense.

It might seem that the American press corps is getting smarter, more efficient, posing more difficult questions about our actual safety as we face a blatant warning from North Korea. It might seem so because they actually asked Bush about the dissonance in his rhetoric and actions regarding North Korea and, too, about Iraq, but when, after a horrible explanation of the apparent contradictions in Bush/Cheney policy (we mistakenly attacked Iraq without enough backing from the rest of the world, without pursuing diplomacy) Bush has learned from these mistakes. He has learned that when actual threats are made against our country, that is the time to erase a red line, to say “Japan and China will help us. It didn’t work in Iraq.”

Americans Have Blood On Their Hands, And It Is Sticky

I feel ashamed. I always say "these people were willing to kill upwards of 250,000 innocent civilians in the Middle East, and you're going to tell me they weren't willing to kill 2973?" Little did I know that I was WAY OFF.

600,000+ individuals have been killed as a result of our invasion. I don't understand how Americans can sit idly by and allow this genocide to take place. In OUR names. Based on obvious lie after obvious lie. Americans have blood on their hands, and it is STICKY.

Expose the truth behind 9/11, and bring our troops home.

Published: October 11, 2006

BAGHDAD, Oct. 10 — A team of American and Iraqi public health researchers has estimated that 600,000 civilians have died in violence across Iraq since the 2003 American invasion, the highest estimate ever for the toll of the war here.

A New Estimate of Civilian Deaths The figure breaks down to about 15,000 violent deaths a month, a number that is quadruple the one for July given by Iraqi government hospitals and the morgue in Baghdad and published last month in a United Nations report in Iraq. That month was the highest for Iraqi civilian deaths since the American invasion.

What Does The Phrase "Conspiracy Theory" Mean?

By Jon Gold

As 9/11 family member Donna Marsh O'Connor said at the National Press Club on 9/11/2006, "this Government has made me a victim of Conspiracy Theories, because they haven't answered fully, or allowed anyone to ask the true questions of September 11th."

Instead of answering all of the questions put forward by the 9/11 Family Steering Committee, and others, the Government, through the media, has labeled those with questions as "Conspiracy Theorists", and several other "colorful" adjectives.

If you need some examples, here are a few:

The Story
“We felt the country was at risk from terrorists and from incompetence…and maybe worse.” —Lorie Van Auken, September 11th Widow

Following the attacks of September 11th, a small group of grieving families waged a tenacious battle against those who sought to bury the truth about the event—including, to their amazement, President Bush. In ‘9/11 PRESS FOR TRUTH’, six of them, including three of the famous “Jersey Girls”, tell for the first time the powerful story of how they took on the greatest powers in Washington—and won!—compelling an investigation, only to subsequently watch the 9/11 Commission fail in answering most of their questions.

Adapting Paul Thompson’s definitive Complete 9/11 Timeline (published by HarperCollins as ‘The Terror Timeline’), the filmmakers collaborate with documentary veterans Globalvision (‘WMD: Weapons of Mass Deception’, ‘Beyond JFK’) to stitch together rare overlooked news clips, buried stories, and government press conferences, revealing a pattern of official lies, deception and spin. As a result, a very different picture of 9/11 emerges, one that raises new and more pressing questions.

The Failure To Defend The Skies On 9/11

By Paul Thompson

On May 22 and 23, 2003, the 9/11 Independent Commission held its second set of public hearings, focusing on the issue of air defense. It’s not surprising if you haven’t heard about this, because the hearings were poorly covered by the media, with major papers such as the New York Times and Los Angeles Times failing to write any articles on them.

That’s unfortunate, because the hearings were important, and the issue of air defense is critically so. Could at least some of the 9/11 attacks have been stopped if the US air defense system had reacted faster? We need to know the answers and identify possible failures if we are to prevent future attacks from succeeding.

The heads of the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration), the Transportation Department, NORAD (the North American Aerospace Defense Command, in charge of defending America’s airspace), and others testified before this commission hearing. Unfortunately, many of their statements consisted of evasions, lies, and spin. Their statements will be examined more closely below. But before that, it is important to ask, what intelligence warnings could have led to an improved defensive posture by 9/11, and what actions were taken to improve the nation’s defense against terrorism before 9/11?

9/11 And The New Pearl Harbor

[Almost no one who opposes the idea of U.S. government involvement in 9/11 has seriously confronted Crossing The Rubicon by Mike Ruppert. And sadly, many in the 9/11 truth movement who do embrace the notion of U.S. government involvement will not deal with Rubicon. This 9/11 report points to one notable exception to the latter, Bill Weinberg, and since Weinberg’s opinion was first published at Guerilla News Network, FTW is posting this story for free on our site because it will also be posted on the GNN site. While Weinberg did at least deal with the contents of Rubicon, his arguments are extremely fallacious as Michael Kane explains in this report.

The Afghanistan War

This was the first place American troops were sent. It's often referred to as the "forgotten war" because the media barely covers it anymore.

The objective of the invasion? To hunt down and kill Osama Bin Laden. Instead, we let him escape through Tora Bora.

The Taliban has resurfaced, and is coming on strong. The country now provides 92% of the world's opium.

The murders that took place on 9/11, were a crime. As Donna Marsh O'Connor said, committed by men. Not a country. By men.

I think it's important we found out who those men were, and not hold an entire country accountable for the actions of a few.

More People Believe In 9/11 Conspiracies Than Approve Of President Bush; But The Wound Is Self-Inflicted

Why do they ONLY quote the Scripps Howard Poll? What about the Zogby poll that came out much earlier and doesn't include mention of UFO's?

The latest Newsweek poll bears grim tidings for the Republicans. The president's approval ratings are at new low for the poll, just 33 percent. That's less than the 36 percent of Americans who, according to a Scripps Howard poll, believe that "it is 'very likely' or 'somewhat likely' that federal officials either participated in the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon or took no action to stop them."

Even more troubling for the GOP is the fact that, for the first time, most Americans - 58 percent - believe that the Bush administration intentionally misled the country in the run-up to the invasion of Iraq, and 53 percent believe it was a mistake for Rumsfeld to load Baghdad into his GPS in the first place.

When someone asks Mike Campbell in "The Sun Also Rises" how he went bankrupt, he responds "Gradually and then suddenly." Such is the way presidents lose their grip on the confidence of nation. In this climate, one need not be a self-appointed or media-anointed guru to recognize that the Democrats have a better chance to win the House, if not the Senate, than anyone imagined even a month ago.

Revisiting A Tragedy

HBO documentary follows Daniel Pearl's path to death

Tomorrow would have been Daniel Pearl's 43rd birthday. But now the day marks the premiere of a documentary on HBO that looks at the life and grisly death of the Wall Street Journal reporter who was kidnapped and beheaded by Islamic militants in Pakistan four years ago.

The Journalist and the Jihadi: The Murder of Daniel Pearl follows the oddly parallel paths of Pearl and the man who orchestrated his kidnapping, Omar Sheikh, a Londoner of Pakistani descent. After 9/11, the men's paths intersected in Pakistan in early 2002, with tragic consequences for the American reporter.

Among the similarities noted in the film is that both Pearl and Sheikh came from privileged backgrounds, were well-educated, and were idealists in their own ways. And both hoped to change the world, but in very different ways.

The 80-minute film was produced by filmmakers Ahmed A. Jamal of Pakistan and Ramesh Sharma of India, and its narrator is CNN's Christiane Amanpour, a friend of Pearl. The filmmakers were able to gain access to many of the key figures in the reporter's kidnapping and murder, including Pakistani police and intelligence officials as well as Islamic leaders with ties to extreme religious groups, including the Taliban.

How The FBI Protected Al Qaeda’s 9/11 Hijacking Trainer

New Revelations about Ali Mohamed

by Dr. Peter Dale Scott
October 8, 2006

The following text is an expanded version of Peter Dale Scott's Talk at Berkeley, September 24, 2006, entitled "9/11 and American Empire: Intellectuals Speak Out.”

I want to talk tonight about using the 9/11 Report as evidence – evidence of what is being suppressed. We can use it in this way because some parts of the Report are accurate and reliable. This base line of reliability helps define other parts of the Report which are misleading, and in a few places I believe dead wrong. These relevant omissions and deceptions should be taken as clues as to what is being suppressed, and where the hidden truth lies.

I shall talk of the Report’s occasional resistance to the truth. Let me give an easy and incontrovertible analogy from the Warren Report. The Warren Report got many things right; but it also minimized the links between Jack Ruby and organized crime.1 This resistance was a clue that Ruby in fact was crime-related and that this was important. The House Select Committee on Assassinations, even though they got many things wrong, amply confirmed the importance of Ruby’s crime links.
