In several of the latest emails to emerge from Wikileaks' Global Intelligence Files release, Stratfor CEO George Friedman and Vice President of Intelligence Fred Burton speculate on the fate of Osama bin Laden's corpse, with Burton suggesting that a sea burial wasn't likely ["I don't see the FBI nor DOJ letting that happen"] and then later confidently stating that the body was being transferred to Dover, Delaware and then on to the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology in Bethesda, Maryland. One of the first juicy bits to trickle out of the Wikileaks release of 5 million Stratfor emails is the comment from Fred Burton, Stratfor's Vice President of Intelligence, that the Imam of the controversial so-called Ground Zero mosque is an "FBI operational asset." Burton, who was formerly a special agent with the US State Department’s Diplomatic Security Service and the Deputy Chief of their counterterrorism division, made the comment on an email chain regarding a New York Observer article, Untangling the Bizarre CIA Links to the Ground Zero Mosque. The controversy surrounding the "Ground Zero mosque" overwhelmingly dominated the news and discussion surrounding the ninth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.

Rick Veitch on 9/11 and “The Big Lie”

Rick Veitch has been pushing the boundaries of comic book storytelling as a writer and artist for over three decades. Best known for his mind-bending work on DC's Swamp Thing, Veitch has worked on everything from mainstream superhero comics such as Justice League of America to the graphic navigation of the outer reaches of his own dreams in the independently published Rare Bit Fiends.

Veitch's most recent ongoing series was Army@Love, a black-humored, absurdist mash-up of romance and war genre comics, inspired in no small part by the hype and horror of the War on Terror. In 2006, Veitch released the epic book-length poem Can't Get No, exploring one man's soul-searching odyssey in the wake of 9/11. Publishers Weekly called it one of the "Best Books of 2006".

This week Rick Veitch returns to 9/11 - this time exploring some of the many inconsistencies and contradictions of the official account - in a new book from Image Comics called The Big Lie. 9/11 Truth News spoke to Rick Veitch to find out more about the inspiration behind his new work. Facebook has apparently implemented a new political censorship regimen, under the rubric of fighting spam. Either that, or their spam filter is in drastic need of overhaul.

On Monday, August 15, 9/11 Truth News contributor Jon Gold received a message from facebook informing him that his ability to post content to any page other than his own had been disabled. When attempting to add supplemental information to Naomi Wolf's posting of Jason Leopold's Richard Clarke article, Gold was informed by a pop up message:

Thinking this was perhaps an error, Gold logged out and then back into facebook.

When he again tried to post a comment, he received another warning.

Following the 31st January Civil Disobedience for 9/11 Justice outside Downing Street which was organized in solidarity with Jon Gold's action in Washington D.C., a second action was held on the 26th February.

After meeting at 12pm near Trafalgar Square we headed down Whitehall to Downing Street and took our positions outside the gates of Downing Street. On one side of us was a constant stream of photo-taking tourists and on the other 3 machine gun-toting policemen.

During my recent debate with 9/11 "debunker" Pat Curley, in his closing statement - after listing a plethora of different theories from a whole spectrum of individuals, including many I do not endorse - he asked, "would anybody in the 9/11 Truth Movement say, “well, OK, we were wrong?" if, in fact, a new investigation found that we were. He then answered his own question by saying, "and the answer is “of course not," so stop pretending that all you want is another investigation - you want another investigation that comes to the conclusions that you believe."

Just to show him that we're not the close-minded people he thinks we are, here's a list of some things we might be wrong about.

Jesse Ventura’s second season finale of “Conspiracy Theory” ended with an episode concerning what happened at the Pentagon on September 11, 2001. Among the many fraudulent claims made in the television program, Ventura included a segment dealing with the ridiculous claim that fake phone calls were made from aboard the hijacked planes that morning, further purposing the idea that the calls were actually created by voice morphing technology. Jesse Ventura called upon forensic audio expert Kent Gibson for a demonstration of voice morphing technology during the show. I had a conversation with Kent concerning his appearance on Ventura’s show. Mr. Gibson had some very interesting things to say about the fake calls claim, Jesse Ventura and his Conspiracy Theory show.

On Monday 31st January 2011, in solidarity with Jon Gold's action outside the White House, I took a ‘911 Truth’ sign to Downing Street – the British Prime Minister lives at No. 10 – and sat down outside the gates. Within seconds I was approached by a policeman carrying a machine gun who demanded I immediately move, a request with which I respectfully declined to comply with. After ten minutes I was approached by two Ministry of Defence policemen who issued the same request. We talked a little about 9/11. Moments later a police van pulled up and four police officers got out – I was also surprised to see a further four Ministry of Defence policeman approaching to see what was going on. After explaining that I was respectfully going to decline all further requests to move on I found myself being dragged from where I was sitting, put into the police van, and driven away to Charing Cross Police Station.

I was released later the next evening having been detained for 30 hours. I’m glad I took a good book!

On December 16, 2010, I would estimate about 200 veterans committed an act of civil disobedience in front of the White House. Several chained themselves to the fence in one form or another. This act inspired me. As a result, I decided to commit a similar act of civil disobedience.

Today, I did exactly that. I went to the White House to chain (handcuff) myself to the White House fence in an act of civil disobedience specifically for 9/11 Justice. Something that has been denied to the families that lost someone that day, and to the people of the world.

Jon Gold: To try and bring attention to the fact that we were lied to about 9/11 and that there needs to be justice and accountability for what happened. That there are family members still seeking justice for what happened and that the people of the world deserve it. When you take into account what that day has been used for - and then think about the fact that we don't exactly know what happened that day - that is an unacceptable situation. People are dying. If that day wasn't what we were led to believe - and it wasn't - then the people of the world need to know about it.

On January 20th, Lt. Col. Anthony Shaffer came to Wayne PA to speak at the Anthony Wayne Movie Theater. Shaffer is a 9/11 whistleblower. Within the last year, he released a book entitled, Operation Dark Heart. The Pentagon heavily redacted the book. They purchased the first 10,000 copies that weren't redacted, and burned them. As Peter Lance points out:

"Shaffer’s book rips the lid off several stories the bureaucrats wanted to suppress: the role of a program named Able Danger in yielding information that could have uncovered the 9/11 plot; Operation Dark Heart, which could have nabbed Al Qaeda’s number two leader; and early indications that Pakistan’s spy agency, the Inter-Services Intelligence, or ISI, actively supported the Taliban. These are the incendiary bombs the censors tried to defuse. And this is the real story of Tony Shaffer’s book."

The Pakistani ISI was alleged to have a role in the 9/11 attacks. The United States Government has gone to great lengths to cover up their alleged involvement. I wanted to ask Anthony if he thought this was part of the reason the Pentagon wanted the ISI's relationship to the Taliban/terrorists redacted from the book. I got my chance.

Anthony will tell you that he's not a "truther." However, he acknowledges that there needs to be a common ground between us if we are to be successful. With that, I agree.

Janette was a beautiful, caring and creative person. She lived next to the World Trade Center and barely survived 9/11. The toxicity took her life 10 years later. Janette was one of the 9/11 survivors who provided the WTC dust samples which were analyzed with the results being published in the Active Thermitic Material paper. Janette worked to heal her trauma through her art and she created much beauty out of her pain. I'm thankful for the time we spent together.

Reporting on Jon Stewart's executive producer Rory Albanese being arrested after punching a We Are Change activist in the face, trendy celebrity gossip site Gawker refers to the punched activist as a "typical Truther asshole". The rest of the entry is the usual insipid hate-inspiring trash you might expect from such an uninformed source, with commenters joining in with the likes of "I think it should be completely legal to punch or otherwise assault a 9/11 Truther. And I'm not joking."

Gawker exhibits a hint of a clue when it points out that the incident has been completely unreported in the media: "Pretty amazing, especially given the easy joke to be made by juxtaposing Albanese's arrest with Jon Stewart's huge rally calling on everyone to be nice to each other." Indeed. It should be noted that WAC's ham-fisted confrontation of Stewart and company was met with heavy criticism from many in the 9/11 truth movement. Has sanity been restored yet?

At the 2010 Anarchist Bookfair in London there was a discussion with independent journalist and filmmaker John Pilger (which was recorded - listen below) and one of the questions from the audience was about the attacks on 9/11. The following is a transcript of the question and his reply:

Actress and comedian Roseanne Barr has published Jon Gold’s encyclopedic 9/11 research article The Facts Speak For Themselves on the front page of her Roseanne World blog. Under the headline “brilliant analysis, Jon Gold“, Roseanne urged her fans: PLEASE READ THIS!

Two days ago, Barr posted a blog entitled “people are saying that 9-11 was an inside bush job“, which led to a lively discussion and Barr inviting Gold onto her radio show as a guest. Roseanne Barr is best known for her hugely successful network television show, Roseanne, which ran from 1988 to 1997.

Peace activist Cindy Sheehan has given support to the cause of 9/11 truth many times over the past few years but on the eve of the ninth anniversary, she made her position clearer than ever before. To an enthusiastic packed house at All Souls Church in New York City, Sheehan declared "I am a 9/11 truther. I do think it was an inside job."

Sheehan lost her son Casey in the Iraq invasion and has since dedicated her life to ending war and injustice. She is most widely known for setting up camp on the edge of George W. Bush's Texas property in 2005, demanding that the president answer one single question from a mother whose son died in the war.

Since that time, Sheehan has continued her activism. She is a fierce critic of the Obama administration's continued occupations and drone attacks, and recently founded Peace of the Action to further her anti-war activities.

On Friday, in the crowded All Souls Church on the upper East Side of Manhattan, Sheehan spoke of many injustices related to the war, both at home and abroad. She spoke of being tear gassed and shot at with rubber bullets while protesting. She spoke of the recently reported "Kill Squad" in Afghanistan, where members of the US military collected the fingers of slaughtered civilians for souvenirs. "That's not something new," Sheehan said.

She urged the crowd to consider the lives of the Iraqi, Afghan and Pakistani people and said, "We're the occupiers - it's up to us to do something about it".

When the topic turned to 9/11, Sheehan stated "I am a 9/11 truther." She paused while the appreciative crowd cheered loudly and then said, "I do think it was an inside job. We just don't know - I don't know - how far inside it went. But, you know, I'm sure Dick Cheney had something to do with it."

While not making it her main issue, Sheehan has spoken freely regarding her opinions on 9/11 truth over the past few years. She has offered her support to the 9/11 truth movement in various interviews and participated in conferences. Sheehan also serves as an adviser to the recently launched 9/11 Truth News (911truthnews.com).

Citing the 30,000 mostly young people who die each day from starvation, Sheehan left the crowd with this thought: "Every day, ten 9/11s occur around the world. It's time to start acting locally, but thinking globally."

An activist group is calling for a complete boycott of corporate mainstream media, starting on the 9th anniversary of 9/11. According the group's facebook page, "Mainstream media networks have barely touched the surface of what happened... Through their negligence, they have made a mockery of the unanswered questions held by the victims' families, and greatly dishonored the 3,000 people who died on 9/11. This must change." The group is urging those who agree to join the boycott, during which participants will rely only on independent media sources for their news. On their page, the group suggests several alternatives to mainstream news, including Raw Story and Information Clearinghouse.

When we launched 9/11 Truth News, we knew we would be attacked.

And no one on the team was surprised when the first attacks came from people claiming to be on the side of 9/11 truth.

On Monday August 30, 2010, it came to my attention that I was the target of three hit pieces that had been published in rapid succession. The most prominent of these attacks came from Kevin Barrett, a self-declared 9/11 truth leader with a long history of actions and statements considered by many to be extremely discrediting to the 9/11 truth movement. Under an ugly, libelous headline on his "Truth Jihad" blog, Barrett issued a venomous litany of bizarre accusations against me: I'm probably an agent of the state, perhaps stalking his family, I'm a "wrecker" getting him kicked off conference lineups and - to top it off - there's evidence that I may actually be living a secret double life as a supporter of the official 9/11 story.

Barrett has been accusing associates of mine of being agents for years now, so these kinds of weird lies are nothing new. This time though, his headlined defamation was something altogether more sickening. The filth oozing forth from Kevin Barrett does not deserve to be dignified with any kind of response whatsoever. But the fact that these smears represent an attack on a dedicated activist with a very strong record - by a supposed "9/11 truth leader" with a large audience (multiple appearances on FOX News, a radio show, books for sale) - at a very critical time in this movement - demands that the issue be addressed.

A new report released by a think tank called Demos warns of the hazardous effects of conspiracy theories on society and recommends strategies for governments to mitigate these effects, including the infiltration of websites.

The report, called The Power of Unreason: Conspiracy Theories, Extremism and Counterterrorism, says "most notoriously and influentially, the ‘9/11 truth movement’ has questioned the official accounts of 9/11 and has become a large and growing political force."

The report notes that the 9/11 truth movement is "peaceful", but makes no distinction between the legitimate questioning of the official account of 9/11 and any number of unrelated, and often racist, conspiracy theories.
