I'm a patriot, protests Moore

HE is America's best-known left-wing agitator and for years his love of country has been under question, with the Bush administration and its supporters leading the charge.

But now documentary filmmaker Michael Moore says he has joined the mainstream and will no longer tolerate people branding him anti-American.

"Don't ever question my patriotism," a clean-shaven, besuited Moore bellowed at a questioner at New York's plush Regency Hotel on Park Avenue yesterday where he was promoting Sicko, a new documentary that tears the scab off the profit-driven US health system.

"I am a patriotic American. The most patriotic thing you can do is question your government, especially when they're screwing up like they are by not providing healthcare to our 9/11 rescue workers."

There was even a new, star-spangled element to Moore's trademark condemnation of President George W. Bush and the war in Iraq.

Graffiti Calls Attention To 9/11

BENTONVILLE -- Political messages about "9/11" were spray-painted on two of Benton County's trucks Monday, a day after Bentonville police began investigating graffiti on the main county courthouse and annex.

Vandals used silver metallic spray paint to send the message, "9-11 Was An Inside Job," on a Chevy Colorado and a Dodge Durango belonging to the Benton County Assessor's Office.

"I don't know if there is any significance to the color they picked," said Bentonville Police Chief James Allen.

Police also couldn't determine a meaning from the date the vandalism occurred, which was likely Friday night or early Saturday morning.

Allen said there are no suspects and no "useable video camera recording."

Graffiti on the front exterior wall of the courthouse at the top of the steps facing the square read "9/11 = Inside Job," also in silver metallic letters. Other versions of the message were found on interior side of the four marble pillars.

Arrest warrant issued after man skips sentencing

The day after Hoffman Estates police arrested Christopher Lee Bollyn in August, he posted his account of events on the Internet.

“I honestly believe this brutal treatment is connected to my 9/11 research,” Bollyn wrote. “I intend to seek asylum in Norway or Switzerland. I can read the writing on the wall.”

Whatever his current whereabouts, Bollyn is indeed now considered a fugitive. He was a no-show at Monday’s sentencing hearing and a warrant has been issued for his arrest. He remained at large late Wednesday.

On June 5, a jury convicted Bollyn, 50, with misdemeanor aggravated assault and resisting arrest in an August 2006 scuffle with three Hoffman Estates police officers.

He was facing up to a year in jail for the conviction.

Bollyn has written pieces alleging the government covered up a Sept. 11 conspiracy and has said the arrest was an attempt to suppress him.

Even at a time when most Americans have turned against the Iraq War and the president’s approval ratings loiter at sub-Jimmy Carter levels, there remains one strain of anti-Bush fervor that mainstream politicians and pundits won’t touch with a 10-foot pole.

This, of course, is the belief that the administration conspired to topple the World Trade Center on 9-11—or at
least cover up the real story behind its
collapse—in order to sell a new war to the public.

Recently, celebrities like Rosie O’Donnell and Charlie Sheen have picked up the mantle of “9-11 Truth,” as the conspiracy theorists call their movement. To no one’s surprise, the actors’ comments were met with ridicule and derision.
