I'm not surprised that the little people of the world, the victims, have no say in international affairs. This is quite blatant and is essentially the status quo. The famous quote by Nazi Air Marshall Herman Goering is relevant here:

WASHINGTON – The Supreme Court has refused to allow victims of the Sept. 11 attacks to pursue lawsuits against Saudi Arabia and four of its princes over charitable donations that were allegedly funneled to al-Qaida.
The court, in an order Monday, is leaving in place the ruling of a federal appeals court that the country and the princes are protected by sovereign immunity, which generally means that foreign countries can't be sued in American courts.
The Obama administration had angered some victims and families by urging the justices to pass up the case.
In their appeal, the more than 6,000 plaintiffs said the government's court brief filed in early June was an "apparent effort to appease a sometime ally" just before President Barack Obama's visit to Saudi Arabia.
At issue were obstacles in American law to suing foreign governments and their officials as well as the extent to which people can be held financially responsible for acts of terrorism committed by others.

Waterboarding. It’s all we seem to discuss when comes to American torture. Whenever you see people discussing “enhanced interrogation” on your TV, chances are they’ll be throwing around the same tired arguments, all revoling around waterboarding. Why, of all the things we’ve done to our suspected (and not-so-suspected) terrorist detainees, is waterboarding the issue? Why confine the rapidly dwindling debate to that single technique? We’ve engaged in a lot of other practices that qualify universally as torture. Are sleep deprivation or “Palestinian hanging” not controversial enough? Is solitary confinement too mundane?
How about sodomy? Is that something we consider unremarkable?
GITMO Detainee that ties Osama Bin Laden to 9/11 Unindictable
Tawfiq bin Attash, currently being held at Guantanamo Bay, is one of the many detainees that president Obama was referring to in his "prolonged detention" speech that cannot be prosecuted via any legal manner such as a US court of law or military tribunal. Bin Attash is said to be the mastermind behind the USS Cole attack and assisted with the 9/11 plot. According to this blog posting, he is a key link to Osama bin Laden and the 9/11 attacks.
Although this was my first time learning of this particular blog, I came across the article via a reference at Glenn Greenwald's salon.com opinion on president Obama's speech. The blogger is described by Mr. Greenwald as an "ardent Obama supporter." Why this particular article was referenced I am not sure as its conclusion did not have anything to do with Glenn's article that referenced it. However, it is the writers conclusion why I felt it should be posted here. The article is well sourced so I feel confident in its accuracy. Military Coup In Honduras Led By "School Of The Americas (SOA) Graduate"

A military coup has taken place in Honduras this morning (Sunday, June 28), led by School of the Americas (SOA) graduate Romeo Vasquez. In the early hours of the day, members of the Honduran military surrounded the presidential palace and forced the democratically elected president, Manuel Zelaya, into custody. He was immediately flown to Costa Rica.
The Honduran state television was taken off the air. The electricity supply to the capital Tegucigalpa, as well telephone and cellphone lines were cut. The people of Honduras are going into the streets. From Costa Rica, President Zelaya has called for a non-violent response from the people of Honduras, and for international solidarity for the Honduran democracy.

In his excellent new essay arguing that "Goldman Sachs has engineered every major market manipulation since the Great Depression", Matt Taibbi writes:
In a society governed passively by free markets and free elections, organized greed always defeats disorganized democracy.
I agree.
This same thinking applies to the government's lies about Iraq, as more and more evidence proves that the American government knowingly lied when it claimed that Iraq had wmds, and when it claimed there was a link between Iraq and 9/11. The "organized greed" of those in government who wanted to invade Iraq defeated the "disorganized democracy" of everyone else.
If asked, Taibbi might even admit this parallel.

NEW YORK TIMES - Detective’s Name on New 9/11 Health Bill

Detective James Zadroga, called in 2006 the first rescuer to die from inhaling dust at ground zero, became a posthumous source of controversy when the city’s medical examiner concluded that his death was not directly related to the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.
Now Detective Zadroga’s name has cropped up again, this time attached to a bill in the Senate that would establish long-term monitoring and health care for those affected by exposure to the World Trade Center site.
The James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act, introduced by the New York and New Jersey Senate delegations on Wednesday, would establish a monitoring and treatment program, including mental health services, for first responders and New Yorkers exposed to the dust. It would also reopen the September 11 Victim Compensation Fund that Congress established after the attack, while limiting liability for the city and trade center contractors in previously resolved or pending claims.

AN APPEAL TO THE INTELLIGENCE COMMUNITY AGENTS

Growing up in the sixties, I watched many of the spy programs on television which made the life of a spy so appealing. It was daring, it was dashing, and sexually appealing. It was enough, coupled with plenty of cop shows, to nudge my ambitions toward law enforcement. As recently as 1996 I still considered a career in private investigation. I decided I did not want to make other people’s problems my own. I also cannot lead a spiritual life while simultaneously supporting the mere symptoms of those forces working against humanity.
I have had the honor of knowing people from the intelligence community, and in law enforcement. Theirs’ is a unique set of ideals, humor, and thought process. I am also keenly aware that alcoholism runs rampant in the intelligence community, due to the trappedness many of them feel. Once you’ve taken the bait, and entered FBI or CIA, there is no getting out. You know too much, and when stuck with this reality, alcohol seems to help one escape.
