A lingering technical question about the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks still haunts some, and it has political implications: How did 200,000 tons of steel disintegrate and drop in 11 seconds? A thousand architects and engineers want to know, and are calling on Congress to order a new investigation into the destruction of the Twin Towers and Building 7 at the World Trade Center. "In order to bring down this kind of mass in such a short period of time, the material must have been artificially, exploded outwards," says Richard Gage, a San Francisco architect and founder of the nonprofit Architects & Engineers for 9/11 Truth. Mr. Gage, who is a member of the American Institute of Architects, managed to persuade more than 1,000 of his peers to sign a new petition requesting a formal inquiry. "The official Federal Emergency Management [Agency] and National Institute of Standards and Technology reports provide insufficient, contradictory and fraudulent accounts of the circumstances of the towers' destruction. We are therefore calling for a grand jury investigation of NIST officials," Mr. Gage adds. –Washington Times

I was curious if Snopes had anything on the Barry Jennings mystery and, no, they do not. So I took the liberty of "Submitting a Rumor," concerning an "Urban Legend," explaining all the mystery surrounding the man's death. This was about two weeks ago.
It is possible that Snopes may choose not to investigate this for many reasons, but I am inclined to think that if many more of you write in it may be an issue they will find impossible to ignore completely.

A lawyer in two Ground Zero sickness cases green-
lighted for trial says he has a smoking gun: buried
city documents that prove firefighters should have
gotten respirators.
The papers emerged in a veritable mountain of files
the city turned over to workers who believe they
were sickened by toxins after the 9/11 terrorist
attacks.
Lawyer Andrew Carboy, whose firm represents more
than 600 firefighters, said the FDNY had rules on
the book requiring Bravest be equipped with
respirators before Sept. 11.
But memos showing that weren't handed over until
this summer - in a data dump of 3 million
documents - five years after the legal battle began.
"They provide everyone with helmets, with bunker
gear, with [air] packs. They could have done the
same with respirators, and they withheld the
documents saying they had a program to do it,"
Carboy said.
Pentagon drops charges against 9/11 plotters, clearing way for civilian trials
WASHINGTON — The Pentagon on Friday officially dropped military charges against the accused mastermind of the 9/11 terrorist attacks and four other alleged conspirators, a development that likely foreshadows their transfer to New York City to face charges in a civilian federal court.

The Pentagon said the dismissal of the charges "without prejudice" against alleged plot leader Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and the others, Walid Bin Attash, Ramzi Bin al Shibh, Ali Abdul Aziz Ali and Mustafa Ahmed Adam al Hawsawi, was a procedural step to clear the way for their civilian trials.
There was no word on when indictments would be issued in New York against the men or when they would be transferred from Guantanamo to the United States.
Attorney General Eric Holder announced on Nov. 13 that the five men would be tried in federal court for the 9/11 attacks, which killed nearly 3,000 people. Criticism quickly followed by Republicans and others who said trying the men inside the United States would create security risks and allow the defendants legal protections that they shouldn't have.

CANTOR Fitzgerald has boosted its damages claim in the September 11, 2001 terror attacks by more than $1 billion to cover lost profits after two-thirds of its work force perished in the World Trade Center collapse.
The global financial services firm, which initially sought only $102.5 million, demanded the eye-popping amount "on the eve of mediation" last year, according to a new Manhattan federal court filing, the New York Post reports.
Defendant American Airlines -- whose Flight 11 crashed into the north tower of the World Trade Center in New York -- will seek to have the "dramatic increase" dismissed on grounds that it's a "disguised wrongful death claim" with no basis in law, the court papers say.
A Cantor spokesman declined to comment.
Cantor's claim was revealed in an agreement to settle $6 billion worth of property-damage suits filed by 80 businesses, including the former Windows on the World restaurant, World Trade Center Farmers Market and numerous insurance companies.

Towards a Theory of Conspiracy TheoriesCass Sunstein, confidante of Obama, Harvard Law professor, current head of the federal Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs, potential Supreme Court nominee - and the latest crusader against those dastardly conspiracy theories
Recently, there was quite a hullabaloo in the blogosphere over a reprehensible academic paper Sunstein co-wrote in 2008 (available for download here), which argued for a Cointellpro-type program of government infiltration of conspiracy theorists, online and in person. Given the incredible scope and flexibility of the powers of his office, as enunciated in this September 30, 1993 executive order signed by Clinton, his proposal should certainly give us pause.
