New research sheds some light on this frustrating dynamic.

New research suggests that misinformed people rarely change their minds when presented with the facts — and often become even more attached to their beliefs.

A new body of research out of the University of Michigan suggests that's not what happens, that we base our opinions on beliefs and when presented with contradictory facts, we adhere to our original belief even more strongly.
The phenomenon is called backfire, and it plays an especially important role in how we shape and solidify our beliefs on immigration, the president's place of birth, welfare and other highly partisan issues.

The Headquarters and the Command Center were tracking Flight 93 as it turned around and headed toward Washington. They got the information that it was hijacked and had a bomb on board. They knew that two airliners had already been used as guided missiles - yet nobody of the leading FAA personnel bothered to follow Cleveland Center's suggestion and tell NEADS (via Dukelin) to scramble fighters. What was going on there?

Another High Rise in China Burns Completely Without Collapse

A new television ad campaign featuring the family members of 9/11 victims has succeeded in garnering what 9/11 activists have lacked for years: serious treatment in the mainstream media.
Granted, that media was Fox News host Geraldo Rivera, who in a former iteration ran a Jerry Springer-like daytime talk show. That and, the last time Rupert Murdoch's conservative-tilted television channel seriously talked about issues pertaining to 9/11, they were calling for a public official's resignation over a signature on one of the "9/11 truth" petitions.

Miracle of miracles, memories of an even younger, crusading Rivera talking on his show, Geraldo at Large on Fox News about the “Building What?” TV ad campaign!
Geraldo began with the standard reference to all those edgy protestors who rallied in front of Larry Silverstein’s new Building 7, shouting “9/11 was an inside job.” He added “c’mon, get a life.” But then, lo, he turned the phrase to say perhaps these protestors weren’t so nutty after all.
Now, he said, there was evidence that Building 7 was taken down in a classic internal demolition. He then introduced his panel, Bob McIlvaine (who looked ready to jump out of his skin). Bob had lost a son in Tower 1 and still carried a deep grief that often, understandably turned to anger. Geraldo treated him with all due respect. He also introduced engineer Tony Szamboti to explain the technical aspect of the internal demolition. It was good to see Rivera willing to help explain the technical talk in TV speak to his audience.

Geraldo Rivera brought two Truthers onto his show Saturday to discuss the controlled implosion of 7 World Trade Center. It was a turnaround for the mustachioed personality, who once said 9/11 Truthers were “into restroom gay sex” and told them “get a life.”
Instead, they found their way onto Geraldo’s set and got a mic.
Geraldo’s change of heart came on the heels of comments actor Ed Asner made on Adam Carolla’s Nov. 9 podcast in which Mary Tyler Moore boss said the World Trade Center towers had been loaded with explosives.
“I think there’s a certain area of government that participated in [the 9/11 attacks],” said Asner. Asner has been a vocal Truther for some time now, “wondering” about the government’s involvement as early as 2004.
