U.S. Plans to Use Fake U.N. Plane Over Iraq?

Bush 'plotted to lure Saddam into war with fake UN plane'

George Bush considered provoking a war with Saddam Hussein's regime by flying a United States spyplane over Iraq bearing UN colours, enticing the Iraqis to take a shot at it, according to a leaked memo of a meeting between the US President and Tony Blair.
"I think no one would be surprised at the idea that the use of spy planes to review what is going on would be considered," Mr Sands told Channel 4 News last night. "What is surprising is the idea that they would be painted in the colours of the United Nations to provoke an attack which could then be used to justify material breach.

Add this to the Northwoods document and it seems that painting planes is a part of the U.S. military repertoire.

Absolutely. In a related story, Air America's Mike Malloy has had a 9/11 lightbulb go off over his head the size of the Caspian Sea oil reserves. Mike is openly calling the Bush administration the "perpetraitors" of the 9/11 attacks, as of his show on Friday.

Well, it proves two things. That they obviously have the ability to paint a plane however they choose, and that Bush is evil, devious, malicious enough to think in this light.

You know what I'd like to see? David Ray Griffin giving lectures at Madison Square Garden. (That's where the "Concert For NY" was held.) Of course, the local radio stations might need to get rid of their pro Iraq war status, for conflict of interest :)

I'll see that "Hmmmmm", and

I'll see that "Hmmmmm", and raise you some random "reality" quotes:

"The history of the 20th century should have taught us that it is important to shape circumstances before crises emerge, and to meet threats before they become dire." -- PNAC

"We're an empire now, and when we act, we create our own reality. And while you're studying that reality -- judiciously, as you will -- we'll act again, creating other new realities." -- aide to GW Bush

"Look, perception becomes reality, but the facts don't back it up." -- Bush spokesman Dan Bartlett

"We are in a process of absorbing the factors of the situation we're in and shedding the unreality that dominated at the beginning." -- senior bush official

"Perpetual deception of the citizens by those in power is critical (in [Father of neo-conservatism Leo] Strauss's view) because they need to be led, and they need strong rulers to tell them what's good for them.'
"Strauss thinks that a political order can be stable only if it is united by an external threat," Drury wrote in her book. "Following Machiavelli, he maintains that if no external threat exists, then one has to be manufactured."

"It is easy to imagine an infinite number of situations . . . where government officials might quite legitimately have reasons to give false information out." -- Ted Olson (husband of Barbara Olson of Flight 77 repute)

"All war is based on deception." -- Sun Tzu, The Art of War

That is one evil, rosy

That is one evil, rosy cheeked, remedial son of a bitch.
Oh yeah, but he's our president.
Hail to the theif.

Why would Saddam be more

Why would Saddam be more likely to fire on a U2 painted in UN colors? If the UN had authorized U2 flights (had they?), wouldn't he be as likely to fire on one of them? If the UN hadn't authorized the fake flight, wouldn't the fake immediately be discovered as the UN would deny it had lost a flight, unless the UN was in on the scam, and said one of its flights had been shot down? U2s fly very high- is it likely Saddam's people could've hit one, or even been able to discern the markings? Why use a U2 to provoke shots, a hard target- why not use a lower-flying aircraft? Unless, as w/ Op Nwoods, the plan was actually to blow it up and claim it was shot down, not wait and see if it actually got fired on- so were they going to switch out a genuine U2 flight? They have those connections in the UN? It's possible a fake quote was leaked for whatever reason, wouldn't be the first time- anyone have good answers to these questions?

You can't see the UN paint-job from the ground. I believe the idea is to entice them to shoot it down by it's behavior, then have photos of the crash reveal that it was a UN plane, insinuating that Saddam knew all along it was a UN aircraft.

@ FrankV: Thx for that
