Cheney Has a Slip of the Tongue
Interview of the Vice President by Tony Snow - whitehouse.gov
Q I want to be clear because I've heard you say this, and I've heard the President say it, but I want you to say it for my listeners, which is that the White House has never argued that Saddam was directly involved in September 11th, correct?
THE VICE PRESIDENT: That's correct. We had one report early on from another intelligence service that suggested that the lead hijacker, Mohamed Atta, had met with Iraqi intelligence officials in Prague, Czechoslovakia. And that reporting waxed and waned where the degree of confidence in it, and so forth, has been pretty well knocked down now at this stage, that that meeting ever took place. So we've never made the case, or argued the case that somehow Osama bin Laden [sic] was directly involved in 9/11. That evidence has never been forthcoming. But there -- that's a separate proposition from the question of whether or not there was some kind of a relationship between the Iraqi government, Iraqi intelligence services and the al Qaeda organization.
See how easy it is to get confused between Saddam and Bin Laden? How ironic that in responding to a question suggesting that the administration tried to tie Iraq to 9/11, Cheney himself gets the two confused. Looks like cognitive association has really settled in.
Thanks Brian for the heads up!

Ha, read further. Snow calls him out on this mistake:
Q Okay. A couple of things, I think a couple of minutes ago -- I want to make sure -- you said Osama bin Laden wasn't involved in 9/11 planning. You meant Saddam Hussein, correct? That Saddam Hussein was not involved in September 11th?
THE VICE PRESIDENT: Correct. Yes, sir.
Q Okay.
THE PRESIDENT CHENEY: Thanks for straightening that out. I didn't realize I'd done that. (Laughter.)
Q Yes. Well, otherwise we'd have a whole lot more stories to deal with.
THE VICE PRESIDENT: Oh, yes. All right. Well, I appreciate it.
It's also interesting to
It's also interesting to consider Snow's remark:
Q Yes. Well, otherwise we'd have a whole lot more stories to deal with.
I take that to mean more than the current heaping amount of stories...
Cheney then acknowledges the existance of these stories by responding with an "oh, yes", followed by what must have been an awkard moment as he says "All right".
Anyone have a clip of this scene?
dz - I am by no means a fan
dz - I am by no means a fan of this Administration...
I must point out that the information in the post is either confussing or your comment is incorrect.
"See how easy it is to get confused between Saddam and Bin Laden? How ironic that in responding to a question suggesting that the administration tried to tie Iraq to 9/11, Cheney himself gets the two confused."
The question, from what I see, does not ask if there was a tie to Bin Laden. But rather states "direct link". The Administration has never said there is a direct link, but they have stated and eluded to the fact that there was a link.
Theres a difference between a link and saying that there is a direct link. I know that it's a mix on words, but that is what this administration does and how they get away with everything. The questions need to be phrased to obtain the answer correctly.
Just my 2 cents. I agree that they tried to tie Sadam with BL, but I never once heard them say there was a direct link.
Perhaps I mis-understood your comment?
This wasn't the first time
This wasn't the first time they mixed up Osama and Saddam. Bush did it probably a dozen times, last one was on 19 th Dec. 2005.
"His willingness to
"His willingness to terrorize himself"
It's becouse he knows even
It's becouse he knows even Bin Laden didn't do it and he has lied about that as well, not just Saddam. So he mixed up the two layers of the lie.
Czechoslovakia doesnt exist
Czechoslovakia doesnt exist for 13 years !!!
I'm starting to believe an
I'm starting to believe an easy way to the truth, is to setup Cheney or Bush to slip up on public record.
There NEVER was a link
There NEVER was a link between OBL and Sadam. Pure propoganda to justify the invasion. Plenty of evidence for this at various political commentary sites. Ignore.
THIS IS THE SECOND SUCH SLIP
THIS IS THE SECOND SUCH SLIP UP IN AS MANY WEEKS!
Cheney also recently slipped up on a television appearance on 03-19 on CBS Face the Nation.
I quote here a comment from another blog (I think it was Crooks and Liars, thanks to the original poster):
When questioned about Ted Kennedy's remarks re: the mishandling of the Iraq Quagmire, the V.P accused Sen. Kennedy of having a pre-9/11 mentality, then said -- yes, admitted -- "WE changed all that with 9/11."
Not, "The mentality was changed by 9/11", nor, "9/11 changed everything," it's Dick saying, "WE changed all that with 9/11." /
