Paul Craig Roberts - "Gullible Americans"

Dr. Roberts is Chairman of the Institute for Political Economy and Research Fellow at the Independent Institute. He is a former associate editor of the Wall Street Journal, former contributing editor for National Review, and was Assistant Secretary of the Treasury in the Reagan administration. He is the co-author of "The Tyranny of Good Intentions." In this, his latest article, he takes on the propaganda and lies that surround the "Liquid Terror" plot and 9/11;

Gullible Americans

...Americans never check any facts. Who do you know, for example, who has even read the Report of the 9/11 Commission, much less checked the alleged facts reported in that document. I can answer for you. You don’t know anyone who has read the report or checked the facts.

The two co-chairmen of the 9/11 Commission Report, Thomas Kean and Lee Hamilton, have just released a new book, “Without Precedent: The Inside Story of the 9/11 Commission.” Kean and Hamilton reveal that the commission suppressed the fact that Muslim ire toward the US is due to US support for Israel’s persecution and dispossession of the Palestinians, not to our “freedom and democracy” as Bush propagandistically claims. Kean and Hamilton also reveal that the US military committed perjury and lied about its failure to intercept the hijacked airliners. The commission even debated referring the military’s lies to the Justice Department for criminal investigation. Why should we assume that these admissions are the only coverups and lies in the 9/11 Commission Report?

How do you know that 9/11 was a Muslim terrorist plot? How do you know that three World Trade Center buildings collapsed because two were hit by airliners? You only “know” because the government gave you the explanation of what you saw on TV. (Did you even know that three WTC buildings collapsed?)

I still remember the enlightenment I experienced as a student in Russian Studies when I learned that the Czarist secret police would set off bombs and then blame those whom they wanted to arrest..

When Hitler seized dictatorial power in 1933, he told the Germans that his new powers were made necessary by a communist terrorist attack on the Reichstag. When Hitler started World War II by invading Poland, he told the Germans that Poland had crossed the frontier and attacked Germany.

Governments lie all the time--especially governments staffed by neoconservatives whose intellectual godfather, Leo Strauss, taught them that it is permissible to deceive the public in order to achieve their agenda.

Some readers will write to me to say that they saw a TV documentary or read a magazine article verifying the government’s explanation of 9/11. But, of course, these Americans did not check the facts either--and neither did the people who made the documentary and wrote the magazine article...

Great article

Like all the good articles, I post it at

Come over and help us debate the issue.

There are lots of vehement non-believers who ask good questions about 9/11.

Lets answer their questions.

From the article:

The more Bush and Blair can convince their publics that terrorist danger abounds, the less likely Bush and Blair are ever to be held accountable for their crimes.

Now that is fucking scary.

There was also the

There was also the “foiled plot” to blow up the Holland Tunnel and flood downtown New York City with sea water. Thinking New Orleans, the FBI invented this plot without realizing that New York City is above sea level. Of course, most Americans didn’t realize it either.

IsraelÂ’s war on Lebanon is a warm-up for the U.S. war
on Iran.

That is the message of Seymour HershÂ’s latest superb
article in the New Yorker.
Lebanon: Washington's Interests in Israel's
War). Hersh reveals that the Bush administration was
“closely involved” in planning Israel’s attacks on
Lebanon. A former senior intelligence official
informed Hersh that, beginning this Spring, “planners
from the U.S. Air Force—under pressure from the White
House to develop a war plan for a decisive strike
against Iran’s nuclear facilities—began consulting
with their counterparts in the Israeli Air Force.”

Hersh notes:
The surprising strength of HezbollahÂ’s resistance, and
its continuing ability to fire rockets into northern
Israel in the face of the constant Israeli bombing,
the Middle East expert told me, “is a massive setback
for those in the White House who want to use force in
Iran. And those who argue that the bombing will create
internal dissent and revolt in Iran are also set

Israel is following its own agenda. But a Pentagon
consultant informed Hersh that the Bush White House
“has been agitating for some time to find a reason for
a preëmptive blow against Hezbollah.” Hezbollah’s
capture of two Israeli soldiers last month provided
the pretext for a massive bombing campaign than had
been planned long before.

The Bush team is chomping at the bit to use the
“lessons” from Israel’s war for its own on Iran. A
former intelligence officer told Hersh: “We told
Israel, ‘Look, if you guys have to go, we’re behind
you all the way. But we think it should be sooner
rather than later—the longer you wait, the less time
we have to evaluate and plan for Iran before Bush gets
out of office.’” The Bush team apparently believes
that they are entitled to create a few more
catastrophes before BushÂ’s time runs out.

Hersh highlights the harebrained notion underlying the
Israeli bombing campaign: “Israel believed that, by
targeting LebanonÂ’s infrastructure, including
highways, fuel depots, and even the civilian runways
at the main Beirut airport, it could persuade
LebanonÂ’s large Christian and Sunni populations to
turn against Hezbollah, according to the former senior
intelligence official.”

This has backfired massively. And yet the Bush
administration appears to still believe that a U.S.
bombing campaign in Iran would turn the Iranian people
against the Iranian government.

There is no evidence that Bush or Cheney have yet
recognized any drawbacks, political or otherwise, from
sending Americans off to die for damnfool ideas.

the Sy Hersh article begins:

the Sy Hersh article begins:

"In the days after Hezbollah crossed from Lebanon into Israel, on July 12th, to kidnap two soldiers, triggering an Israeli air attack on Lebanon and a full-scale war, the Bush Administration seemed strangely passive."

Puh-lease. Everyone knows that the Israeli troops were on the Lebanese side of the border when they were "kidnapped". Not that hezbollah wouldn't have been justified by an incursion into Eretz Israel, considering thousands of their compatriots are rotting in Israeli dungeons and large swathes of their land still are under occupation (more so now that Southern Lebanon has been pulverized).

Sy Hersh is certainly performing a valuable service here, but let's not forget that no "journalist" maintains these sorts of sources by accident. Hersh represents the slightly-more-sane wing of the American elite, ie the plutocrats currently opposed to an invasion of Iran, which they realize would be a complete disaster for all concerned.

Counterpunch (a left-libertarian website, highly read) frequently publishes articles by Paul Craig Roberts. If they don't publish this, I urge everyone to email the editor Alex Cockburn and demand an explanation. If they DO publish it, this will be a big step in the right direction.

One small point of contention:

"The commission even debated referring the militaryÂ’s lies to the Justice Department for criminal investigation."

Yeah right. Methinks the members of the whitehouse commission are trying to cover their collective ass.

A former intelligence

A former intelligence officer said, “We told Israel, ‘Look, if you guys have to go, we’re behind you all the way. But we think it should be sooner rather than later—the longer you wait, the less time we have to evaluate and plan for Iran before Bush gets out of office.’ ”

these people are fucking insane.

PCR's comments about the

PCR's comments about the inability of the average Joe not being scientifically minded enough to review the facts is extremely relevant to to the collapse to the twin towers.

From we can review the competing analyses of Dr Frank Greening and Gordon Ross.
As Ross shows, Greening's analysis is flawed but only subtly so. Ignoring the tendency towards assymetry in each collapse, which in itself is a complex statistical argument only proven through finite element analysis, the collapse of the towers in 12 secs is not difficult to simulate using basic math. To disprove the collapse time one needs to consider the kinetic energy of all floors moving under elastic compression after "pancaking" is said to start. Can you imagine a jury mulling over these arguments? Near free-fall time of the twin towers should be avoided as a strong argument for controlled demolition. Molten steel, asymmetry especially considering the top section tilting, and the debris field showing the vast bulk of the mass was outside of the footprint and so could not contribute to the pancake effect, are easier arguments to prove controlled demolition.

Excellent piece by Paul

Excellent piece by Paul Craig Roberts -- his most important yet, simply because he doesn't skirt around 9/11 truth in this one. Copy and paste this one far and wide.

I disagree English Dude. The "freefall" arguement should be mentioned. Most people have heard of Galileo and Newton.Besides having those scientists behind it , it also sounds good.A nice soundbite for a jury or media audience. Please do not obfuscate .
