Gatekeeper Cockburn Attacks 9/11 “Conspiracy Nuts”
"...Half way through Cockburn’s article, we are provided with a glimmer of the source of his irritation with the “conspiracy nuts” and their “high priest,” David Ray Griffin. “My in-box overflows each day with fresh ‘proofs’ of how the towers were demolished. I meet people who start quietly, asking me what I think about 9/11. What they are actually trying to find out is whether I’m part of the coven. I imagine it is like being a normal Stoic in the second century AD going for a stroll in the forum and meeting some fellow asking, with seeming casualness, whether it’s possible to feed 5,000 people on five loaves of bread and a couple of fish.”
Cockburn is indeed a witty and talented scribe. However, when he attempts to explain away the demolition of the towers, he reveals himself as a flat-worlder, ignorant of the very laws of physics.
As you may guess, the towers went down, pulverized into fine dust, due to government and corporate inefficacy. “The demolition scenario is classic who-moved-the-stonery. The towers didn’t fall because they were badly built as a consequence of corruption, incompetence, regulatory evasions by the Port Authority and because they were struck by huge planes loaded with jet fuel. No, they collapsed because Dick Cheney’s agents methodically planted demolition charges in the preceding days. It was a conspiracy of thousands, all of whom—party to mass murder—have held their tongues ever since.”
Never mind that Hyman Brown, a University of Colorado civil engineering professor and the World Trade Center’s construction manager, has stated that WTC 1 and 2 were designed to survive an impact and fires from a collision by the largest commercial aircraft at the time, a Boeing 707-340. “The building was designed to have a fully loaded 707 crash into it. That was the largest plane at the time. I believe that the building probably could sustain multiple impacts of jetliners because this structure is like the mosquito netting on your screen door—this intense grid—and the jet plane is just a pencil puncturing that screen netting. It really does nothing to the screen netting,” explained the late Frank A. Demartini, on-site construction manager for the WTC, who perished during the attacks. No steel-frame building, before or after the WTC buildings, has ever collapsed due to fire.
According to Cockburn, people inside the buildings did not hear explosions. In fact, Edmund McNally phoned his wife Liz twice following the impact of the planes and told her “I can hear explosions below me,” according to a report published in the New York Times. Tom Elliott, survivor of WTC 2, told the Christian Science Monitor “those around him thought an explosion had come from below,” an “incredible noise—he calls it an ‘exploding sound’—shook the building, and a tornado of hot air and smoke and ceiling tiles and bits of drywall came flying up the stairwell.” Lou Cacchioli, Christopher Fenyo, William Reynolds, and other firefighters, including Lieutenant Fireman and former Auxiliary Police Officer, Paul Isaac Jr., reported explosions. If Cockburn is still incredulous, he needs to take a listen to radio transmissions of North Brunswick Volunteer Fire/Ladder Company #3, chockfull of firefighters reporting secondary explosions.

He loves to cuss, gets a jolly when a mountain biker wipes out trying to keep up with him, and now we're learning that the first frat boy loves flatulence jokes. A top insider let that slip when explaining why President Bush is paranoid around women, always worried about his behavior. But he's still a funny, earthy guy who, for example, can't get enough of fart jokes. He's also known to cut a few for laughs, especially when greeting new young aides, but forget about getting people to gas about that.
I knew a six year old like that once.

In an interview yesterday, Bedard, who writes “Washington Whispers” for the weekly newsmagazine, also said he’s heard about Bush’s full-salute “Austin Greeting.” That’s when new aides come in for their “meet and greet.”

Naturally, the aide can’t accuse the President or grimace or hold his nose. This dilemma apparently drives the presidential funny bone wild.

Cockburn Avoids the War Games
Did it elude me, or was Cockburn's article devoid of any reference to the war games? This is typical of debunking articles: they go on and on about areas in which it is easy to muddy the waters, but they avoid the critical areas, especially the war games.
Cockburn's article is another in the recent 9/11 BAITING CAMPAIGN. Those who write comments to Cockburn should not get into arguments about the physical evidence, but instead demand that he look into the war games.

Nimmo nails Cockburn to the wall totally. I've read Cockburn for 20 years now, and I have always found him, as Kurt says, to be witty and usually on the mark. But on 9/11, he's an ape.
There's something else going I don't anyone has mentioned. Cockburn has also seen two quite recent "defections" on the part of writers who are - or were? - regularly published at Counterpunch. Paul Craig Roberts, and now Bill Christison have both taken a clear stand for 9/11 truth, and I thnk Alex is still smarting from that.

Alright, so Oliver Stone's World Trade Center came and went without offending anyone or pissing on the victims of 9/11. We dodged a bullet there folks. Care to try it again?
Get ready, we might have to. Our friends over at Filmstalker have dug up a story from the NY Post which says yet another World Trade Center movie may be on the way.
This movie is about another last men out of the WTC, William Rodriguez. Rodriguez's story starts out heroically. A janitor at the Trade Center, on the day of the attack he was the only man with a master key to all the doors in the building. So, in a bit of bravery he led Firefighters up the stairs of the North Tower unlocking doors for them as he went. He made it to floor 39 before he evacuated, and in the process saved hundreds of lives. He made it out of the buildling just before it collapsed, but was buried under rubble for an hour before being rescued.

9/11 And Demonic Consciousness
David Ray Griffin is presenting a workshop on the theme of 9/11 and Demonic Consciousness as part of The Eighth International Conference on Science and Consciousness, Santa Fe, NM.
My thesis is that the attacks of 9/11 were products of demonic consciousness, with "the demonic" understood as an emergent reality that is diametrically opposed to the creative power of the universe and strong enough to threaten its purposes. To explain how demonic power can arise in a monotheistic universe. I use the philosophy of Alfred North Whitehead, with some help from Carl Jung. Then to explain how demonic evil arose historically, I employ ideas from Andrew Bard Schmookler's Parable of the Tribes. Finally, arguing that this demonic consciousness now exists most powerfully in the USA, I suggest that a preeminent manifestation of it in our time was 9/11, orchestrated by the Bush-Cheney administration. In making this latter argument, I will draw on my two books on the subject: The New Pearl Harbor: Disturbing Questions about the Bush Administration and 9/11 and The 9/11 Commission Report: Omissions and Distortions.
Goal: To show the possibility of a view of demonic evil that is realistic — doing justice to the way in which our collective lives are dominated by values that can only be called demonic — without being mythological.
Learning Objectives:
To develop a basic understanding of how Whitehead's version of theism allows for the rise of demonic evil,
to develop a sense of how the ideas of Schmookler and Jung can explain the historical rise of demonic evil, and to develop a deeper appreciation of the relation between 9/11 and the American Empire.

You should take great comfort in the fact that this truth-seeker, a former CIA official, was also bamboozled by the corporate media for five years.
Yours truly spent only about one and one-half years in the dark, probably mostly because I have not watched television since 1994, and because my reading and experiences had already made me skeptical of the government/media complex. Thus I was already more inclined to question government/media claims.
You seem to believe that it is the "far left" that is convincing people, but one of 9/11 truth-seekers' main frustrations is the EXTREME timidity, the church-mouse silence on the matter, of NEARLY ALL of the "left" "progressive" publications, pundits, websites, blogs, talk show hosts, etc. They have come to be called "the left gate-keepers." Like the proverbial dog in the manger they not only neglect the vital information they have access to, but also keep it from everybody else. Fear is the main factor here: fear of losing their grants, being black-balled by colleagues and sources, being called "conspiracy theorists," irresponsible, irrelevant, etc. And fear of being targeted for career and/or physical harassment or termination. Actually some of the most courageous and eloquent 9/11 "detectives" are conservatives, like Paul Craig Roberts, who was a high official in the Reagan administration, Wall Street Journal writer, etc.
Thus your "useful tool" hypothesis don't hunt.

....This should be worked on at two different levels. At the first level, the objective should be long-term, centered on making a maximum effort to find out who the individuals and groups are that carried out the attacks in New York and Washington. Then, these people should be tried in an international court and, if possible, convicted and punished for causing so many deaths. Such a trial, accompanied by actual change in U.S. policies, would show that some people on this globe are at least trying to move closer to more just and decent behavior in human relationships around the world.
At the second level, the short term, the task should be to immediately set to work as hard as is humanly possible to defeat in this year's congressional election any candidate who refuses to support a no-holds-barred investigation of 9/11 by the Congress or a high-level international court. No more evidence than is now available is needed in order to begin this process.
A manageable volume of carefully collected and analyzed evidence is already at hand on both items ONE and TWO above. Such evidence should be used right now to buttress charges that elements within the Bush administration, as well as possibly other groups foreign or domestic, were involved in a massive fraud against the American people, a fraud that has led to many thousands of deaths....
