Groupthink and 9/11

Groupthink and 9/11

The official story given to explain the events of 9/11 has been perpetuated and allowed to stand in large part due to the American
public's suffering from a psychological phenomenon known as Groupthink. Groupthink is "a mode of thought whereby individuals
intentionally conform to what they perceive to be the consensus of the group. Groupthink may cause the group to make bad or
irrational decisions which each member might individually consider to be unwise." This mode of thought is molded into existance
through the major media outlets, which have pushed the offical myth day one, immediately becoming THE answer to the
question of what happened. After this myth was established, the publics understandings and opinions regarding the event were
shaped and voiced in conformity with this official story. By selecting what information reaches the public, and by spinning the
information that is chosen to be discussed, the media in effect controls the 9/11 public discourse. When discourse is controlled, acaged paradigm is created in which the public is forced to think within a screened reality.Confucius once said, "How best to govern the state? First rectify the language." Only able to draw upon the controlled information provided to them, the public begins to form a group concensus as to what happened. In addition, everyone they see on TV believes this way, which leads them to believe this must be the dominant view. In or around this time is when the psycholigical mode of thought known as Groupthink takes a firm hold, in effect, severly limiting a persons ability to act upon information contradictory / harmful to the worldview which has now been created for them...ie 9/11 Truth.

Irving Janis conducted in depth research into the realm of Groupthink. Below, is a basic list of his findings, and how it relates to 9/11

Janis's "antecedent conditions" likely to encourage groupthink:

High stress from external threats - (Trauma suffered on 9/11, Fear of being attacked)
High group cohesiveness - (Patriotism after 9/11, Collective desire for revenge)
The persuasive strength of the group's leader - (Strong language promising justice)

His eight symptoms indicative of groupthink:

Illusion of invulnerability - (Controlled discourse assured the public that they had the facts)
Unquestioned belief in the inherent morality of the group - (Justice must be done)
Collective rationalization of group's decisions - (Eye for an Eye, We must be right we have all the facts, and our leaders say so)
Shared stereotypes of outgroup, particularly opponents - (Hippies, Commies, Crazies, Jihadists, Muslim stereotyping)
Self-censorship; members withhold criticisms - (Fear of being called unpatriotic or crazy)
Illusion of unanimity - (Everyone on the TV, radio, and paper thinks this way)
Direct pressure on dissenters to conform - (Patriot Act, Free Speech Zones, Violence)
Self-appointed "mindguards" protect the group from negative information - (Censorship in the media, Polititions)

Although this is a mere outline sketch of sorts, it indeed illustrates the parallels between the classic buildup and effects of
Groupthink, and the cover-up of September 11th. A larger essay would certainly do it more justice, but untill then, it's something
to keep in mind.

Whoa, this makes WAY too much sense.

What are you unAmerican?? He he. Good post. In fact groupthink was blamed for the belief that Iraq posed an imminent threat with WMD that they possessed. Of course we know that was actually a subset of groupthink called Feiththink, not to be confused with Feithink, which is what the cherry-picked "intelligence" was written with. I don't think Doug Feith gets enough credit for his role in the War on Terra... SO unfair!

You're absolutely right

Also look up "Asch's conformity experiment", the mechanism has been well known for decades. I contend that paid shills are the PTBs tool to create the illusion of conformity concerning the OCT for the mainstream people.

Oh yea, and psychological trauma makes people much more accessible to suggestions, which is why the OCT was presented so very early. 9/11 was a giant brainwashing operation.

No question about it

. . . I was an unwitting participant up until just recently because I bought the official version. (I was NOT, thankfully, an unwitting victim of Groupthink on the Iraq issue). And this phenomenon is being reinforced on the left by the gatekeepers. Who knows, perhaps they are Groupthink victims themselves (we see firsthand how powerful a tool it can be). Either that, or they have a specific agenda. I'm not talking about the ones who are keeping mum, but the Counterpunches and Matt Rothchilds who are denouncing the truth movement ad hominem.

I agree that ore is needed on this subject

nicely articulated, great parallel. I agree that someone needs to write a paper or book solely focusing on the psychological aspects of the 9-11 cover up. There is so much that could be written about how the american people were are being manipulated, as in what methods are being used, why, how, and what are the effects. It could be presented very scientifically which would be a another dose of credible science, and could serve as a manual to help recognize future attempts to manipulate the masses.

Those responsible for

Those responsible for carrying out psychological operations are extremely versed in the methodology needed to manufacture consent. With the similarities being so great between classical Groupthink, and the 9/11 cover-up, it's by no means a stretch to say that a portion of the cover up was planned around fostering this mode of thought, and making sure it ensnared the majjority of Americans. I agree with a previous poster that there is indeed a vast amount of material available to write an in depth book or research paper regarding psychological aspects alone. Psychological warfare is more important to the success of any covert operation than even the carrying out of operational events. Simply look at 9/11. The operational events were incredibly sloppy, leaving disputable aspects in practically every stage of the attack. On the other hand, the psychological operations enacted after the attack were superb, to the point where most Americans are blind to the what would be openly obvious discrepencies had it not been for these psychological tactics. The fact that these tactics have not been coded and thoroughly explained out leaves a giant gap in the full explaination of how the cover-up has proceeded. I will try my best to fill this gap, and I can only encourage the rest of you to do the same, for i feel it is an important step towards complete understanding.

you make a good point, the

you make a good point, the psychological aspects are being overlooked by most everyone. does anyone have a psycholgy degree on this blog? i think that would be of great service. it's quite apparent that this is being done deliberately.

Degree

I have a Minor in Psychology from UNH, but i don't think one is needed to provide useful information on this subject. We're all intelligent enough to conduct our own research, and i think most here could articulate it well enough to shed some light on the details of this coever up. The internet is a wonderful resourse, use it!

Great point, it's important that everyone realizes how this is being done. In order to defeat an enemy, you must first fully understant it.

Good Job

Tide is turning

Backed by the recent poll findings (below) I would say that the effect the groupthink mentality was having on peoples ability to think logically is beginning to fall apart. Still, I encourage everyone to expand on the psychological mechanisms used to manipulate both the group and individual mindset.
