Middle East Buildup Continues

US aircraft carriers USS Eisenhower and USS Enterprise in the Red Sea off the Saudi Arabian coast

November 1, 2006, 2:20 PM (GMT+02:00)

The nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Eisenhower, and its accompanying carrier strike group, passed through the Suez Canal on Monday, Oct. 30, and arrived in the Red Sea on Tuesday, Oct. 31.

DEBKAfile’s military sources report that the USS Eisenhower is at sea off the Saudi Arabian coast, together with another aircraft carrier, the USS Enterprise. The presence of the two US aircraft carriers, and their accompanying strike groups, in a body of water as small as the Red Sea is an extraordinary development.

So far there have been no indications that the USS Eisenhower arrived to replace the USS Enterprise.

US Intelligence director John Negroponte also is in the region. He was in Saudi Arabia over the weekend and in Cairo on Tuesday, and is due to arrive in Israel on Wednesday, Nov. 1.

With the arrival of the USS Eisenhower in the region, there are now three US aircraft carriers in the Persion Gulf and surrounding waters, including the USS Iwo Jima. Accompanying the USS Eisenhower are the guided-missile cruiser USS Anzio, the guided-missile destroyers USS Ramage and USS Mason and the nuclear-powered fast-attack submarine USS Newport.

DEBKAfile’s military sources report that a fourth US aircraft carrier, the USS Boxer, will arrive on the scene by the beginning of next week, together with its carrier strike group. The USS Boxer is currently taking part in joint US-Indian naval maneuvers, dubbed Malabar ’06, which include the landing of marines on beaches.

John, here are a few related hi-resolution pictures.

"Red Sea (Oct. 31, 2006) - The nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69), and the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Enterprise (CVN 65) after arriving in the Red Sea to begin its deployment to the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations. While in theater, Eisenhower will perform Maritime Security Operations (MSO) which help set the conditions for security and stability in the maritime environment, as well as complement the counter-terrorism and security efforts of regional nations. These operations deny international terrorists use of the maritime environment as a venue for attack or to transport personnel, weapons or other material."

The decks are loaded with fighter jets; the ships are packing a lot of aerial firepower. I don't see the necessity of so many fighter jets for "Maritime Security (water-based) Operations" explained in the officially stated reason for deployment.

just continue on as if they don't have a care in the world.

3 Carrier groups in an active military theatre screams of an air campaign.

Negroponte in the region screams of Intel funny business.

The November 7th elections along with the two points above points to a false flag event inorder to implement CONPLAN 8022.

CONPLAN 8022 anticipates two different scenarios. The first is a response to a specific and imminent nuclear threat, say in North Korea. A quick-reaction, highly choreographed strike would combine pinpoint bombing with electronic warfare and cyberattacks to disable a North Korean response, with commandos operating deep in enemy territory, perhaps even to take possession of the nuclear device.

The second scenario involves a more generic attack on an adversary's WMD infrastructure. Assume, for argument's sake, that Iran announces it is mounting a crash program to build a nuclear weapon. A multidimensional bombing (kinetic) and cyberwarfare (non-kinetic) attack might seek to destroy Iran's program, and special forces would be deployed to disable or isolate underground facilities.

By employing all of the tricks in the U.S. arsenal to immobilize an enemy country -- turning off the electricity, jamming and spoofing radars and communications, penetrating computer networks and garbling electronic commands -- global strike magnifies the impact of bombing by eliminating the need to physically destroy targets that have been disabled by other means.

The inclusion, therefore, of a nuclear weapons option in CONPLAN 8022 -- a specially configured earth-penetrating bomb to destroy deeply buried facilities, if any exist -- is particularly disconcerting. The global strike plan holds the nuclear option in reserve if intelligence suggests an "imminent" launch of an enemy nuclear strike on the United States or if there is a need to destroy hard-to-reach targets.

Anyone know how reliable DEBKAfile is?

I didn't know about

I didn't know about DEBKAfile before it was mentioned further above. It may help to look at the Wikipedia entry (as well as to the parties who struggle for content on that entry, as reflected in the "history" of the article):

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DEBKAfile

It says...

"The neutrality and factual accuracy of this article are disputed. Please see the relevant discussion on the talk page."

I don't use Wiki very often. Just for general information on something.

Ha!, you should look for all

Ha!, you should look for all articles dealing with some sort of government-sponsored terror and/or false flag operations in Wikipedia...

They all carry that "warning" line.

Can't you imagine that all kinds of government services from many countries now do have a few fulltimes displatched to monitor as well as influence what's written about their activities on such a popular information channel?? You bet they do. (Just as all US Congressman let screen their Wikipedia entries very regularly...).

Click on the "history" tab if you want to see past versions of an article, and which particular changes were made by whom. Look up the IP addresses used (with the help of "nslookup" or "whois" to see many of them leading back to *.gov and *.mil domains if the change was particularly favorable to *.gov or *.mil PR interests....)

So, yes -- take with a grain of salt whatever you find in Wikipedia (especially if it involves 'politics'). Verify, counter-check and balance with other sources. Check out the links you find there. But be very pleased how many "leads" you can get in Wikipedia for initial research of any topic you've never researched before....

I'm a card carrying...

Member of the choir.

Just as they have individuals who frequent sites like these. Only a fool would believe otherwise.

Something I wrote a while back...

Protests Against Echelon Vanish After 9/11
I was browsing the internet today, and I came across this article. I didn't read the whole thing. I got to this paragraph:

"I remember vividly what I was doing on the morning of September 11. My hair was standing on end before the planes struck the World Trade Centre. I was trolling the web and copied several stories about a new project called Echelon, a worldwide network of satellites and computers which had the capability to read or record the secrets of anyone, any company, any government, anywhere. The European Union was about to protest about Echelon, the stories said. After 9/11 there has been a complete absence of stories about Echelon."

I didn't know that... and as it turns out... he's right...

It's amazing how many major stories were about to break before 9/11, and how they suddenly vanished afterwards.

That's not to say Echelon has anything to do with monitoring the internet, but do a search for Pentagon and Internet, and you'd be amazed to find several articles pertaining to this.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/10454316/

CIFA is becoming the superpower of data mining within the U.S. national security community. Its “operational and analytical records” include “reports of investigation, collection reports, statements of individuals, affidavits, correspondence, and other documentation pertaining to investigative or analytical efforts” by the DOD and other U.S. government agencies to identify terrorist and other threats. Since March 2004, CIFA has awarded at least $33 million in contracts to corporate giants Lockheed Martin, Unisys Corporation, Computer Sciences Corporation and Northrop Grumman to develop databases that comb through classified and unclassified government data, commercial information and Internet chatter to help sniff out terrorists, saboteurs and spies.

Regarding the NSA...

http://www.nytimes.com/2005/12/25/weekinreview/25bamford.html

Thirty years ago, Senator Frank Church, the Idaho Democrat who was then chairman of the select committee on intelligence, investigated the agency and came away stunned.

"That capability at any time could be turned around on the American people," he said in 1975, "and no American would have any privacy left, such is the capability to monitor everything: telephone conversations, telegrams, it doesn't matter. There would be no place to hide."

He added that if a dictator ever took over, the N.S.A. "could enable it to impose total tyranny, and there would be no way to fight back."

At the time, the agency had the ability to listen to only what people said over the telephone or wrote in an occasional telegram; they had no access to private letters. But today, with people expressing their innermost thoughts in e-mail messages, exposing their medical and financial records to the Internet, and chatting constantly on cellphones, the agency virtually has the ability to get inside a person's mind.

Perhaps the most startling aspect of the roadmap is its acknowledgement that information put out as part of the military's psychological operations, or Psyops, is finding its way onto the computer and television screens of ordinary Americans.

Just to name a few...

Whois Debka?

Debka

Debka has run many sketchy stories. But, ironically, it was my monitoring of Debka and the Jerusalem Post that led me to warn my family on Labor Day 2001 that a major terrorist attack was coming. Less than 2 weeks later.....9/11.

I take everything Debka reports with a grain of salt. They tend to lean towards the hysterical sky-is-falling approach to reporting. This could all be part of the propaganda campaign of pressuring Iran - sabre rattling - we mean business etc etc.

But - it is interesting to note that today's headline are reporting that Iran is rattling nerves with: "Tehran stages show of force, test fires missiles capable of
nuke warheads, hitting Israel, U.S. forces in region"

so - i would think this appears to support Debka's claims that military pressure is building in the region.

Of course it could all be posturing - but it is also important to note that sabre rattling can go tragically wrong. it is a dangerous game we are playing - and even a mistake could result in open warfare.

And don't forget...

Bush "would understand" an Israeli strike on Iran.

Larisa Alexandrovna...

Told me in regards to what's taking place that, "Right now people are simply watching this because such activities are not new or unusual. We have to watch and see. I am doing my best to follow this of course."
