This is a good issue to bring up.. Also remember that Rumsfeld made the announcement on a Monday, when the tradition is always to break such bad news late in the day on Friday.

One point though, he didn't say it was missing all at once, but rather over a long period of time. Also he said "couldn't track," which is intentionally vague.

Yes, when you are broaching the subject of “9-11 was an inside job” idea with people out there who don't have a clue what happened on 9-11 or what is happening to our country in general, this missing $2.3 trillion is definitely a subject that will get even their attention.

Lots of questions of all kinds come up about the Pentagon. Dr. James Fetzer has studied this particular part of the story in detail. He has said on his radio shows that someone called around and got the names and job titles and employer of the people killed in the Pentagon. A high percentage of them had titles like Accounting Analyst, Accounts Research Officer and other titles to indicate financial investigators and analysts. Some of them were working for the Navy and some were private contractors. These financial positions all happened to be working and concentrated in the west wing of the Pentagon that was hit. That wing was sparsely populated with employees as it had just been renovated. The renovation also included extra heavy thick walls being installed, thereby rendering any damage to that one part of the building least likely to allow damage to adjacent parts of the pentagon. The new thicker walls contained the damage somewhat. The lowest number of lives were lost, compared to the over 20,000 who work in Pentagon each day, and most of the lives sacrificed look to have had to do with work on some financial investigation project in small isolated part of the huge building. That project was presumably abruptly ended with the deaths of the workers and the general overriding importance of 9-11.

I even heard Dr. Fetzer say that some 9-11 truthers have surmised that hitting the Pentagon was sort of a last minute "add-on" to the overall planning of the 9-11 event.. Somebody saw it as a neat way to just go ahead and end all pressure on them because of the missing trillions by just wiping out the whole investigatory program of the missing money. The whole matter would certainly be forgotten about compared to 9-11. It is possible that there was some serious pressure of some kind regarding that missing money. I do not know from where that pressure may have come but it was a big important matter that was not going to go away on its own. It had to be “dealt with.”

I think in all of our thinking about what may have been the motivations related to 9-11, we have to realize that each target was carefully chosen for some strategic specific reasons. Some of the reasons most likely involved wanting to wipe out buildings and their physical contents (records and other incriminating evidences that would point the finger toward inside job). Some of the reasons related to taking out certain people. Some of the reasons related to taking out sufficiently large numbers of people to fit their game plan.

As for the hitting the Pentagon as a target, no real self-respecting terrorist and suicide bomber/pilot would be happy with just hitting only a small part of the building and killing only a small percentage of the total number of people working their that day. They would have gone for the whole enchiilada.

[Washington Times' Insight Magazine, 5/20/2002] editorialized that "the Department of the Army, headed by former Enron executive Thomas White, had an excuse [for not making a full accounting]. In a shocking appeal to sentiment it says it didn't publish a 'stand-alone' financial statement for 2001 because of 'the loss of financial-management personnel sustained during the Sept. 11 terrorist attack."

It is more important to stress the above fact over the statement Rumsfeld made about the trillions on September 10. Rumsfeld had made similar statements before, notably on July 16 of that year. Therefore, his statement should not be interpreted to mean that it was suddenly discovered that a $2.3 trillion chunk suddenly went missing, and they timed the announcement to hide that devastating fact. Also remember that presumably he is speaking about the total from the past. The fraud in the Pentagon is an important issue, but the more important issue related to the attacks is the potential fraud enabled by the deaths of the accountants..
