Senators Want CIA Report on 9/11 Failures Declassified

Jan. 31, 2007 - The Senate Intelligence Committee and the CIA may be headed for a new confrontation over an old issue: why an internal report documenting the agency’s failures in the run up to the September 11 terror attacks is still being withheld from the public.
The report, prepared by the CIA’s inspector general, is the only major 9/11 government review that has still not been made publicly available.
When it was completed in August 2005, NEWSWEEK and other publications reported that it contained sharp criticisms of former CIA director George Tenet and other top agency officials for failing to address the threat posed by Al Qaeda, as well as other mistakes that might have prevented the attacks.
In a letter sent just this week, three panel members—including Intelligence Committee chairman Sen. Jay Rockefeller and ranking Republican Christopher Bond—revived the issue and asked that an executive summary of the report be declassified “without delay” and released to the public.
The letter was addressed to outgoing Director of National Intelligence John Negroponte, but Oregon’s Democratic Sen. Ron Wyden—who has made the issue a personal crusade—said he intends to press the new DNI designate, J. Michael McConnell, on the matter at his confirmation hearings Thursday....

I posted this as well...
So, because the Bush Administration has “a desire for political security”, and a "desire to protect the reputations of some of the main figures", they refuse to release the documents even though their reasoning behind their refusal "does not appear to be a valid basis for classification under current laws and executive orders."
If they have nothing to hide, then why do they hide everything?

Isikoff and Hosenball caught in a lie?
"The report, prepared by the CIA’s inspector general, is the only major 9/11 government review that has still not been made publicly available."
The families petition calls for "the redacted 28 pages of the Joint Inquiry Into The Terrorist Attacks of September 11, 2001 (JICI)."

And...
How many OTHER things have "not been made publicly available?"

Something as simple as a roster sheet naming the individuals within the PEOC on the morning of 9/11. The "young man's" name for instance would be helpful.
And so would be having them all under oath.

New Audience.
A new group of people interested in politics that we could reach out to would be the local groups of Democracy For America. Each state has one and they were originally formed by HOward Dean's Machine. Many activists that I'm sure would like to be "gently" introduced to new information like 911 truth.
Peace guys.
Truth Videos Surge Into Google Top 100!!!
A wave of 9/11 truth and other alternative documentaries have suddenly surged up the Google Video rankings, with three "conspiracy" videos in the top eleven alone, including Alex Jones' Terror Storm!
Loose Change is at number three and Aaron Russo's America From Freedom to Fascism at number four. 9/11 Mysteries sits at number fifteen.
Having so many activist documentaries in the higher echelons of the Google top 100 ensures that new people who have not previously encountered this kind of information will become exposed to the truth.
We can provide a fresh outreach to millions more around the world but only with your help. Please help circulate the Terror Storm link and the other great films via Google Video.

Google Videos!
Great information Colombo. I'm happy as hell about this. And I agree it is reason to get to work even more. Peace. http://www.truth911.net has a ton of videos accessible through Google Video as well.
Kudos to Newsweek.
The best thing about this story is that Michael Isikoff and Mark Hosenball of Newsweek are actually doing their job and working to uncover things. We should all implement the rights under the FOIA, or Freedom of Information Act, and request certain information to be released to us. It is a pretty damn good act. I guess you request has to be honored in 7 days or something. Anyway. Kudos to Newsweek for tackling the issue.
Michael Isikoff
We need to get an email address for Michael Isikoff over at Newsweek and send him some encouragement to pursue the 9/11 issue.
This is huge
and it should be a major rallying point
You're right...
But I would much rather see a judge, two sets of lawyers, a jury, and a bailiff.

backed into a corner
Give it time. We basically have 3 options here.
1. the government, under duress, is going to panic and somehow implement total martial law.
2. the bastards pull a "waco" on themselves...returning to Lucifer LOL and we get Justice.
3. A real investigation ensues and we get Justice.
not a coincidence
RE: "In their letter, Rockefeller, Bond and Wyden noted that a Justice Department inspector general report on the miscommunications between the FBI and the CIA over the two hijackers—Khalid Almihdhar and Nawaf Alhazmi—has long since been made publicly available."
HA, HA. An FBI asset lived w/ the two in San Diego, and this was reported by NEWSWEEK!!!!
http://cooperativeresearch.org/essay.jsp?article=essaykhalidandnawaf
all while being tracked by the CIA at the al-Qaeda Summit in Malaysia!!!!!!!!!
there is no way this is a 'coincidence', there was NO miscommunications, the CIA followed him outside the U.S., and an FBI asset LIVED w/ him in the U.S.
Ahh, now the political blood is in the water.
These two are beginning to realize that the strong desire the general public has (and will want exponentially more of in the future) on this issue and are capitalizing. This is undeniable especially after Dennis Kucinich made that 9/11 truth comment to huge effect.
Thank goodness for the 9/11 truth community and particularly Webster Tarpley.
shit
Paul Thompson deserves the credit so far as research is concerned. I've read Tarpley, and I don't find it too credible so far as historiography is concerned.
Nafeez Ahmed's "The War on Truth" is by far the best book out on the 9/11 attacks right next to "The Terror Timeline".
Nafeez Ahmed is brilliant!
But I singled Tarpley out particularly because of his activisim this past Saturday, the 9/11 truth convergence at Washington was extremely impressive and I know he was personally involved in organizing it. Research is one thing, but Web is leading in terms of action currently.
Limited hangout
The attempts to push a limited hangout are going into effect. "They" are scared.
Lets make sure their hangout can only go 14 feet. Make a few copies of DVDs and give them out to random people on the street. Talk to the stranger on the train. Push this in all its facets so the hangouts spiral out of control.
Getting the report would be very good
My feeling is that it would be a very limited hangout, but that it would contain some important information that could more us forward.
A few substitutions for passages from it were released after the Moussaoui trial. You can find them here:
http://www.vaed.uscourts.gov/notablecases/moussaoui/exhibits/defense.html
Check out exhibits 538.
The most interesting passage is in 538B, which says that numerous CIA officers reviewed documents saying Almihdhar had a US visa and Nawaf Alhazmi had arrived in the US. This means that when DCI Tenet claimed the opposite - "I know nobody read that cable" - under oath to Congress, he was lying through his back teeth. This should be enough to actually put Tenet in jail.
We also need the unredacted version of the Joint Inquiry report. The claim that there are only 28 redacted pages is wrong. The whole damn report was redacted, the 28 pages is just the bit about Saudi Arabia, which was deleted en bloc. The other redactions are more subtle, for example lots of passages are reworded to cover the important details up or make the language incomprehensible, e.g. the NSA does not "watchlist" Almihdhar but "queries his databases". What I would particularly like from that is the bits about the NSA wiretapping the hijackers' calls.
