Media Matters Ignores Right Wing Attacks on Rosie O'Donnell

Another indication of media blackout on 9/11 issues:

Media Matters has failed to report on any of the recent "conservative" media's feeding frenzy on Rosie O'Donnell and their vitriolic attacks on her First Amendment rights, which include calling for her dismissal and execution. Media Matters just this week published a blog on the site defending the repulsive Ann Coulter:

With any other topic, Media Matters would have sent out press releases, blogged, and posted the information on their front page. They routinely monitor all Fox broadcasts and other Administration stenographic media personalities, calling them on misinformation, unprofessional conduct, and the like. According to their webpage:

Media Matters for America is a Web-based, not-for-profit, 501(c)(3) progressive research and information center dedicated to comprehensively monitoring, analyzing, and correcting conservative misinformation in the U.S. media. Launched in May 2004, Media Matters for America put in place, for the first time, the means to systematically monitor a cross section of print, broadcast, cable, radio, and Internet media outlets for conservative misinformation — news or commentary that is not accurate, reliable, or credible and that forwards the conservative agenda — every day, in real time. Using the website as the principal vehicle for disseminating research and information, Media Matters posts rapid-response items as well as longer research and analytic reports documenting conservative misinformation throughout the media. Additionally, Media Matters works daily to notify activists, journalists, pundits, and the general public about instances of misinformation, providing them with the resources to rebut false claims and to take direct action against offending media institutions.

Before Rosie began talking about 9/11, they reported several times on their front page that Glenn Beck had called her a "fat witch," and included his retraction that stated he shouldn't have said "witch" but stands by his critique of her size. However, I have found no mention of the past week's disgusting display by the Reich Wing media. I sent them an email, calling them on this bizarre and inexplicable exclusion. In a more disciplined fashion, I asked:

Hey, guys, what are you so afraid of? A bit of a funding conflict? Isn't this where the rubber meets the road?

Here is the link for the contact page, if anyone else wants to weigh in:

No kidding

I've seen time after time mediamatters reporting things that are far less outrageous than someone calling to hang someone for treason for questioning the events of 9/11. What's the matter, media matters?! Have some guts, for crying out loud!

Media Matters has an agenda

Media Matters has an agenda they are responsible for carrying out. They are the left wing watchdog. They only do partisan issues. I'm a 911 Truther. I'm also a conservative Republican (no, I did not vote for Bush nor any other top tier Republicans which operate the Republican Party like an Amway Pyramid scheme; same goes for the top tier of the Democratic Party) I stand for the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, after that Liberals have the right to fight for what they think is right for the country and I have the right to fight for what I think is right for the country. As long as no one's rights are infringed and the Constitution is not violated, I can deal with some liberal policy, though I will always try to convince liberals of their wrong perspective. Media Matters does not think like this. Their goal is simply to defend the top tier of the Democratic party.

Here's what I wrote Media Matters:

Dear Sir or Madam

Why is it that Media Matters is not defending Rosie O'Donnell with respect to her inquiries into 9/11? Fox News and MSNBC have demonized this poor woman for merely posing questions. They have unfairly called for her termination.

I think it's disingenuous that you neglect this story. There are plenty of people still living without closure from 9/11 as the official story fails miserably in explaining what happened that day and why it happened.

Please don't be a left-wing gatekeeper to the truth.

Be careful...

I agree with your overall argument, but for the sake of accuracy, Media Matters has never defended Ann Coulter. The link you provided is actually a critique of Media Matters. I point this out because a bunch of 9/11 bloggers are probably contacting Media Matters and criticizing them with inaccurate information like: "You'll defend Ann Coulter, but not Rosie? How dare you!" We want groups like Media Matters on our side, but this is only going to produce a counterproductive please correct the post accordingly.

Good call

It's a great blog, but it should be updated for accuracy.
"Cogito ergo sum"

Sorry if I wasn't clear --

Sorry if I wasn't clear -- the story whose link I provided was posted as a prominent blog on Media Matters' website. The point is that somehow they decided to print that critique, while knowing that their readership believes Ann Coulter lies through her adam's apple and doesn't necessarily deserve a defender in some misguided sense of "fairness." (And believe me, it's not easy to get a blog accepted there.) It makes the blackout on the Rosie story even more bizarre, since they have proven they will publish antithetical opinions.

But thanks for forcing the clarification!

Media Matters Is a "Left" Gatekeeper

Media Matters is set up to keep their readership coming to the so-called "left" side of the ruling elite in order to find protection from the right side, when in actuality these "sides" are one in the same. Media Matters plays this same bogus left-right game with Michael Savage every time he says something mean about gay people.

Instead of informing their readership that Michael Savage is a complete and total phoney who doesn't even believe his own act, they instead keep their readership in the dark as to Michael Savage's true nature and agenda because it's their agenda as well.

Michael Alan Weiner (a.k.a. Michael Savage) is a raging homosexual. By homosexual I simply mean that he enjoys having erotic relations with men, going by his own written admittances. That is to say, he is at the very least bisexual, as for all I know he may actually enjoy poking his wife. (His previous wife had two abortions while she was married to him.)

He's a literal Allen Ginsberg-following socialist beatnik who found out that he can make more money and get more prestige while at the same time advancing his elitist socialist agenda by pretending to be a so-called "conservative."

His shtick is parodying conservatives by taking on the typical socialist's take on what "conservatives" are supposed to be like. That is, he's making fun of conservatives, meanwhile they praise him. It's a big, sick joke--but one with very serious and deadly intent.

Dear Allen,

After speaking to you on phone about how nice the black-white thing is in mountain villages in Fiji I walked downstairs to the school courtyard where a little known black brother looks at me, takes my hand gently, we do some old world lower-east side finger tricks, and he peacefully kisses the back of my hand--I do the same for his hand.

I told him about our brief talk, and he says, "I must have felt the vibes."

These neo-con Marxian Trotskyists aren't playing games. They're deadly serious about forming their one-world socialist government and enforced one-world religion, and they'll do it by hook or by crook.

For more on the Marxian Trotskyist background of the neo-conservatives, see the below scholarly speech by Dr. Ron Paul, Republican Congressman from Texas. It gives many references and direct quotes from neo-conservative works, and so it's a valuable resource for further research.

Some even believe we are part of a secret cabal working against the best interests of the United States, characterizing my family and me as 'internationalists' and of conspiring with others around the world to build a more integrated global political and economic structure--one world, if you will. If that's the charge, I stand guilty, and I am proud of it."--David Rockefeller, Memoirs (Random House, 2002), pg. 405

General social and economic progress is no less impressive. ... The enormous social advances of China have benefitted greatly from the singleness of ideology and purpose. ... It's also important to note that among many other Marxist planks that have fully or partially been implemented in the U.S., plank No. 5 of Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels's Communist Manifesto is "Centralisation of credit in the hands of the State, by means of a national bank with State capital and an exclusive monopoly." Citing more sex-change operations, increased lesbian fertility clinics, Savage said of 9-11: "That was God speaking"

On the March 27 broadcast of his nationally syndicated radio show, Michael Savage complained that Americans currently live in "post-Christian times" in which "[t]he churches are emptying out, the bathhouses are filling up, the sex-change operations are speeding up, the lesbian fertility clinics are increasing around the country." Savage went on to argue that God "orchestrated the rise of radical Islam" in order to counter the "spiritual collapse of the West." He continued: "It's becoming increasingly clear to me that God wants radical Islam on this planet at this time -- that it's not actually the scourge you think it is." He further claimed that God wants to show "you boys in Hollywood and you girls in New York City" that he does "exist" through acts of catastrophe like the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001: "Down came the World Trade Centers. That was God speaking."

The true threat to liberty comes not from terrorists but from our political leaders whose natural inclination is to seize upon any excuse to diminish them.

Crooks and Liars is also unusually silent on the subject of Rosie O'Donnell in the media. It is sickening that more people aren't at least standing up for her free speech rights. But at least C&L is allowing support for Rosie in their comments section, where they routinely edit out 9/11 related news. I've been trying to ease open the envelope there by pushing a little harder and harder as time goes bye. We'll see. Give it a try.

No surprise, really. In terms of 911 Truth, Media Matters operates in much the same way as Daily Kos, Eschaton, TalkLeft, and the host of other top-ranked lefty online sites: they ignore and/or ban discussion of the elephant in the room.

Why? Well, it's actually quite simple: they're either A) uninformed, and therefore ignorant of the blatant falsehoods inherent in the 9/11 official story; or B) they're petrified of rocking the boat and making the Democratic Party unhappy, while simultaneously permitting themselves to be labeled Unpatriotic Nuts by the Bush machine. I strongly believe that "B" is the more likely scenario.

Whichever the case, these are people who desperately value their place in the online world, and they're unwilling to sacrifice their virtual reputations by doing the right thing: that is, publicly questioning the official story. For them, the only position to take is taking no position at all. It is the reason that I have come to lose all respect for these sites.

But what do I know. Hey?

Compare these

Last year, Rosie said "radical Christianity is just as threatening as radical Islam in a country like America." Media Matters jumped to her defense:

Similarly here, after Rosie said she didn't think the U.S. could win in Iraq:

Does Media Matters not see that 9/11 is the greatest of conservative misinformation that needs to be corrected?

And the media is blatantly misstating Rosie's positions - is that not misinformation?

This is how I would approach them - show how they distorted her positions. Her questioning whether Britain intentionally provoked an incident becomes "siding with the Iranians." Also, if British soldiers were in Iranian waters there should be no question they are lawfully detained and not hostages. Pointing that out is not "siding with Iranians."

Questioning the official explanation for Building 7 becomes "the government did it."

Questions KSM's detention and confession, based on basic principles of American law, becomes "Rosie says KSM is an innocent man."

This is misinformation to further the conservative agenda. And the people on Fox are raising as much hell over her comments about the British sailor incident as over her comments on Building 7. Media Matters should at least address that and the KSM statements if they are too chickenshit to discuss 9/11.

Ningen - please clarify

Does Media Matters not see that 9/11 is the greatest of conservative misinformation that needs to be corrected?

Maybe I'm just really tired, but what do you mean by this?

Please clarify. Thank you.

I hope that you and yours are well.

pretty sure he meant the OCT of 9/11

but of course, I don't know.

interns < internets

I'll try

I basically just meant that the official story of 9/11 is a big lie and it's being used to further a conservative agenda. Perhaps the confusion I caused is the question of what is conservative - perpetual war, torture, domestic spying, and a police state are not conservative but fascist. But Media Matters talks about these issues in terms of liberal/conservative positions, while ignoring 9/11 as a basic cause of what it calls conservative trends.

I'm not a conservative but I respect and agree with real conservatives like Ron Paul or Russell Kirk on many issues.

Did I answer your question?

hmmm -

Correct me if I'm not understanding exactly what you mean by conservative misinformation .

That phrase implies to me that 9/11 misinformation is being promulgated by conservatives primarily, if not exclusively. I find the left gatekeepers to be equally culpable in the ongoing cover-up and campaign of misinformation.

Would you not agree?

I guess another interpretation would be that you were citing a uniquely conservative form of 9/11 misinformation, but this seems nonsensical to me.

(maybe I should just go to bed and attempt to recoup the few wits I have left, LOL)

The truth shall set us free. Love is the only way forward.

I agree

I was not citing a unique form of conservative misinformation. I guess I was just saying that a lot of what Media Matters calls the "conservative agenda" is furthered by misinformation about 9/11. The same people they repeatedly criticize - O'Reilly and Hannity - are doing the same thing they always do when someone questions the God-given right of the government to do what ever it wants to brown people, and/or questions the "Commander-in-Chief," so I'm asking why Media Matters doesn't react the same way here.

Your wits are there - my words were fuzzy and I thank you for making me clarify. It's not fair to call 9/11 propaganda conservative. It's really corporatist and militarist and the liberals are totally complicit in it. I don't often use the term "left gatekeeper" but Media Matters' behavior here is a great example of it and I'm seeing more and more how it works.

TY, Ningen

I guess I will have to study Media Matters a bit.

I'm of the opinion that were it not for the hard work of the left gatekeepers we would have achieved critical mass already. I'm still hoping that some of those I suspect of being conscious gatekeepers are simply suffering from deep denial and will soon wake up as the truth tide continues to rise.

Alexander Cockburn's CSPAN interview from last weekend still has me burning. Ignorance and arrogance are such an unbecoming combination.....

I see that you are in the Pacific Northwest. Might you be attending either the Portland or Seattle DRG events coming up in May?

Anyway, I hope that you and yours are well.

The truth shall set us free. Love is the only way forward.

My submission

I am very disappointed in Media Matters for not speaking out in support for Rosie O'Donnell regarding her latest comments about 9/11 and the vicious attacks on her by the likes of Bill O'Reilly and others.

This causes me to now question other things you do speak out against, and makes me wonder what else you are not speaking out against.

It's not even a matter of whether you agree with her stance on "9/11 Truth" -- you should at least speak up for her right to Freedom of Speech and Expression.

Shame on you all.
