Why the upper middle class is blind to the truth about 9/11.

I am a member in good standing of the US UMC (upper middle class.) I have been a practicing physician for over thirty years and have been well paid and invested wisely enough to not have many financial worries. As a well educated American, I was stunned when a couple of years ago I saw WTC 7 come down on a video and and heard Larry Silverstein say the words "pull it." I immediatetly started researching the subject and soon became an active member of the 9/11 Truth movement. I initially thought that I would just have to show the videos and information that I had found to my colleagues inside of and outside of medicine that were fellow members of the UMC and we would quickly force our legislators to initiate a real criminal investigation into the events of 9/11/01. Boy was I ever wrong. I found it almost imposible to get my fellow doctors to watch even one video and even if they did, they seemed to not give a damn about the facts presented. I have spent the last two years trying to understand the mind set of these men and women and have come to the conclusion that the Chinese proverb is right that says "You can not awaken a person that is pretending to be asleep." I now believe that most of the members of the wealthier classes in this country and probably everywhere else live in self imposed blissful ignorance and adhere to the motto "Don't rock the boat." or "I'm OK, F___ you."
Most of the people in this class have discretionary income that they use for investment and, no matter who they voted for in 2000 or 2004 they knew that investments in oil, Haliburton, and the Defense Induustry were a good bet and they were right. People that invested in these areas have made fortunes and many of my colleagues are in this group. These people have a vested interest in the status quo and have profited greatly from the economic and political changes that have come about as a result of 9/11. To some extent the blood of the victims of 9/11 and the resulting oil wars are on their hands. To admit that 9/11 was an inside job would be to admit some responsibility for it and some need to take action that would not be in their own financial best interest. Over the last two years I have had no success in getting even one member of this class to admit that 9/11 very likely was an inside job and to agree that a real criminal investigation is in order or at least to care enough about it to become pro-active in any way toward working for the obviously necessary investigation. I have managed to chase off several of my "friends" that don't want to discuss the issue in any way at any time.
I know that many of you in this movement have run into the same brick wall and find yourself at a loss to understand why seemingly intelligent and moral people can be so complacent about such horendous events as 9/11 and the wars in the Middle East. I would like to remind you of a famous old saying. "No revolution was ever fought on a full stomach." If this is true, and I have come to believe that it probably is, nothing much will happen in the way of positive change until many more Americans are personally suffering financial hardship. It seems to me that our job has become that of educating the people as best we can so that when the time comes that they are personally suffering, they will realize who the real villans are and will open their eyes to the truths that we in the 9/11 Truth Movement already see so clearly. It seems that as long as the government is supplying the population with the level of creature comfort that they require the people will willingly go along with whatever their leaders do. Fortunately for our "leaders" the oil reserves of the Middle East are not located under Western Europe. Mass murdering white Europeans would not be nearly as acceptable as killing Muslim civilians in a land to which we have no family ties. "Manifest Destiny" as a concept seems alive and well right here in the US. My own intent is to continue to use DVDs and digital infromation to educate the masses as best I can as I see no other alternative, but I now recognize that my task is to be a long and hard one and that it might very well be in vain. Nice read

You are right tom people dont give a shit ,they Know what you say is true but they really dont care they are content and take the path of least resistance. but you now what fuck um you dont need them "No revolution was ever fought on a full stomach." when there stomach is empty they will come.

I have faith

I have faith that more like you Tom will awaken to the Truth.
We are a force that feeds off its own energy and growth. Just reading this post from you Tom, has given me more hope that the upper middle class will awaken. Not all are driven monetarily and like you, though maybe in smaller numbers, more will awaken to the truth.

Just this morning, I called my atttorney to talk about my civil rights and protecting my self for my growing activism.
I asked him if he thought I would get arrested for picketing and distributing DVD's in front of our only news paper building.
During this conversation, my attorney starting asking me questions about 9-11.
Ive known my attorney for about 15+ years and have developed a close and trusting relationship with him over the years. With that said, I have an appointment with him for tomorrow morning to wake him up even more. Who knows, perhaps he will be an active truth member after our meeting.
Though I understand what you are saying about money and comfort of lifestyle keeps many upper-middle class people from questioning the system, I think that more and more of people like yourself will realise money is not as important as Freedom and personal safety.
Im not involved in this for my country as much as Im doing this for the safety of my children and grand children. I hope that doesnt sound too selfish, but I find personal and family safety is the best motivator for me.

awesome post. i am a former

awesome post. i am a former member of the UMC (quit my well paying job to start my own business, and so have abandoned the comfy life in exchange for the startup challenge) and know what you are talking about -- especially with the investments part. it saddens me quite a bit, to know that humanity is so lame as to be willing to screw itself over for a few bucks.

a great web project you have there. i'm confident that so long as we relentlessly continue the fight we'll win this thing.

Excellent post, Tom. I am

Excellent post, Tom.

I am surrounded by friends, neighbors, and family in the UMC, and have found that this is indeed the most difficult demographic to crack. In addition to the financial considerations you mentioned, I would also add that many UMCs consider themselves to be well informed, with slavish devotion to the Washington Post, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, PBS, and some of the more mainstream left-of-center publications. They are convinced that if there were anything to conspiracy claims, these august outlets would cover them responsibly. (Call it the anti-Fox/Left Gatekeeper effect.) They are also unwilling to admit that people as smart as they could have been so completely fooled for so long -- therefore, none of "that stuff" is true. I've been told that even if some of what I've shown them is correct, they won't really believe it until it is in the NYT.

It is a counterintuitive notion that a more educated and well-read group is less likely to be truly informed (and to understand the connection between seemingly disconnected news items), but there it is.

I am tremendously impressed by and grateful for the contribution your efforts have made to this movement.

Excellent Post!

I couldn't agree with you more, doc.

I'm in a similar position as you are. I'm not a doctor, but I do work in the engineering/pharma field. My neighbors and social circle includes research scientists, brokerage owners, senior level managers, doctors, attorneys etc. Most are in my age bracket - thirties to mid-40's. Yet the only one of them who has any political incentive is the head of fundraising in my region for a corporate controlled political party (there are two of those parties in this country).

I've mentioned 9/11 discrepencies to several of them and the responses range from "That doesn't surprise me - did you see the game last night?" to "how can you even listen to those lies?"

And that's the end of it. There's no interest in viewing a documentary, there's no interest in the unanswered 9/11 questions, and there's no interest in what lies in store for the future of America.

You've hit the nail on the head. These guys want to talk about their golf game, they want to prepare for the next adventure race, they want to keep in the good graces of their HOA, and they want to make sure that their car has no dust on it as they head over to the gym before driving to work.

I'm gonna sum up your post with one word that describes the lack of interest and the disdain that they hold for those of us who have open hearts and minds for the truth:

Selfism

They don't hurt people. They aren't mean. And they don't intend to support or allow evil. But they are so selfishly concerned with their own appearances, their own success, their own interests, and their own grasp on reality, that they refuse to step outside of their comfort zones even for a moment to experience and understand what is really happening.

One again - great post, doc. You've precisely captured the dilemna that we're up against.

Ignorance is Bliss

It reminds me of the matrix; I know this steak is not real... Ignorance is bliss.

Its too bad that the morally right path is not as important as the 'creature comfort' path isn't it? I hope people can change.

Brilliantly Put...and thank you so much!

I am in the same situation, surrounded by engineers, chemists & Silicon Valley marketing people who politely avoid my desire to tell them the latest in 9/11 news...or the latest about Blackwater or anything political. It is frustrating but the scales might be tipping a tad and each time I feel that happening I regain my strength and continue on. Thank you for your honest appraisal of our "financially fat" society. It is testimonials such as yours that also keep me going.

I feel your pain...

...in a different way.

Most of my clients are successful professionals in their various fields. They live comfortably in nice homes, drive expensive automobiles, take fancy vacations, and spoil their little brats rotten.

They care more about their wealth and comfort than they do about the country that gave them the opportunity to create what they have.

There is only one thing you can say and it has already been said:

"If ye love wealth greater than liberty, the tranquility of servitude greater than the animating contest for freedom, go home from us in peace. We seek not your counsel, nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you; May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen."
-- Samuel Adams

They get three strikes. Then I quit wasting my time on them any more. And, I will only re-engage if they start the conversation.

"But truthfully, I don't really know. We've had trouble getting a handle on Building No. 7."
~~ Dr. Shyam Sunder - Acting Director Building and Fire Research Laboratory (NIST)

As much as I'd love to

As much as I'd love to change people's minds, I have to resign myself to the fact that they've made their bed and they'll have to lie in it. It's only a matter of time till we reach Critical Mass, and there's no telling how these pathetic rich folks will react, but one thing's for sure, they won't get any sympathy from me. It's bad enough that they do nothing to ease the class-disparity between they (the haves) and the poor (the have-nots). The few exceptions to the rule, like yourself Doc, are few and far between...but welcome.

Tom, sadly, you are not alone.

I've made copies of Loose Change and Press for Truth and only one person I've given them to has watched them and believed them.

The rest have not even watched them out of fear or apathy.
One girl said she was afraid to watch them!
Another didn't want to be a "crazy conspiracy theorist".
Most just give them back after months or just sit on them.

It's so sad how these people are so fat and happy that they
won't even take the time to watch a DVD.

And what scares the hell out of me is if/when bush pulls off another fake terror attack to bomb Iran that the same sheep will eat it up again, hook, line and sinker. And what few freedoms we do have left will be destroyed.

Folks, I hate to say this, but I'm really starting to think this
movement is going nowhere and we are completely screwed. Look how they silenced Rosie. The way things look now, the USA will cease to exist soon.

But I **WILL* keep spreading the word as best I can.
I'm discouraged, but not beaten. That will never happen.

nick

it may very well come down to us taking the streets and physically demanding accountability. one thing you can be sure of is that if another attack should happen here, SO many more people will suspect the truth of it than after 9/11/01. NOW we have a movement EXPECTING an attack. "We're all over it!" so look on the bright side!

American Revolution

Keep in mind that only one third of the colonial population wanted the American Revolution. One third wanted independence, another third did not, and the remaining third were indifferent.

It may turn out that only a third of our country passionately fights for the truth of 911, but we should remind ourselves of history and remember that the truth is never going to be easy. It never has been. It has always been a struggle to get to the truth, but it is possible. Freedom happens. Truth happens. Keep sending emails and posting comments and writing in blogs because at the very least when people are touched by the truth they will not support policies that take away our liberty. Even if the truth of 911 is not at critical mass, the more information people come into contact with the less they will support draconian policies. If the fascists dismantle the political process because they are unable to manipulate it then they will also dismantle people's denial of 911. They know this, so changing people's minds through writing and other media IS EFFECTIVE. It destroys the fascist's ability to manipulate the political process.

exactly

The UMC seems to be ‘conveniently’ asleep. However, I agree that part of the problem is that they still believe in major newspapers such as the NY Times, the Washington Post, etc. And, as log as there is a FOX, there will be those that believe everything on CNN.

Also, there is no draft. The only sacrifices we have been asked to make are to go shopping more often and give up all personal freedoms. Well, that's better than giving up a son, isn't it? And I get to keep my nest egg, right?

I know people that swear by everything the NY Times prints while I cancelled my subscription months ago because I believe they are complicit and controlled.

I tried in vain to recruit members of my community to join westchester911truth.org. So far, no one has shown any interest. I am very disappointed in my community, many of whom are UMC. Mayebe they are ignorant. Maybe they are apathetic. Maybe they are just too fat and happy.

I do believe there is an awakening in this country. I just can't believe how long it is taking.

One person at a time.

"If a nation expects to be ignorant and free, it expects what never was and never will be.... The people cannot be safe without information. When the press is free, and every man is able to read, all is safe." Thomas Jefferson

Most of the UMC are stressed and in debt

and running as fast as they can to keep up. I have worked for this class and the elites for over 20 years and have observed them intimately during this time. Few are really happy and most are trapped by the things they own.

Thus, when approached about a very threatening and stressful topic such as 9/11 they turn away and retreat into an uncomfortable denial. We have to make it less threatening and put forward the positive, spiritual path of 9/11 Truth. By being calm, patient and caring we can draw them out of their defensive denial and cognitive dissonance and encourage them to break away from the selfish cynicism that now pervades our culture.

Simply by quietly standing for the truth in public we demonstrate that there is another way.

We need to counter the pervasive fear that the msm spreads with love and empathy for our fellow brothers and sisters. This will set us apart from all others in this soul destroying culture and draw the spiritually starved masses to us and the cause of 9/11 Truth.

People cannot help but be drawn to the light of truth.

I always try to engage people in a positive, loving way.

btw - are you anywhere near Chappaqua? I have a brother and his family there and I am hoping to get them involved sometime in the not too distant future. I have one niece, in particular, who would be incredibly helpful as she has excellent computing skills and organizational experience of a political nature. I just have to get them to take the plunge. I guess it's time for me to make another push in their direction and see if they've watched any of the three dvd's I sent them.

Yes, one person and one day at a time.

I hope that you and yours are well.

The truth shall set us free. Love is the only way forward.

The greatest strength

is borne of greater gentleness.

LeftWright, I appreciate your posts. The further I travel down this rabbit hole opened to me by 9/11 Truth the more I believe that ultimately we are choosing between Fear and Love.

Is anyone here aware of Robert Moore's work on the integration of Sovereign/Warrior/Lover/Magician?
I'd love to discuss this with you in the context of 9/11 Truth.

70 Disturbing Facts About 9/11

I handed out DVDs at a sizable Liberal Group's meeting...

...the other night and a woman asked me, "What's the difference between the US and Argentina?:......About 3 years...."

This is administration is grossly inflating the money supply (and won't tell us how much, as they made M3 secret in March of '05)....the dollar is weakening steeply as they devalue it through their flooding the world with dollars.....yeah, a few war-profiteers have made their blood-money by investing in the corporations that got government contracts financed by deficit spending, but the private bankers that run the Fed will soon pull the plug on the dollar and the money supply will be severely contracted. When that happens, there will be massive pain for the bottom 98%. And then the foundation of 9/11 Truth we've laid will be built upon, as people strive to understand why this happened to them.

I do believe it's going to have to get worse before it's going to get better (citizens waking up and acting on it).....

Make sure everyone burns and hands out "America: From Freedom to Fascism", along with all the 9/11 films.

Reminds me of ...

... Jeb Bush, speaking to retired Naval Intelligence Officer Al Martin:

“The truth is useless. You have to understand this right now. You can't deposit the truth in a bank. You can't buy groceries with the truth. You can't pay rent with the truth. The truth is a useless commodity that will hang around your neck like an albatross -- all the way to the homeless shelter. And if you think that the million or so people in this country that are really interested in the truth about their government can support people who would tell them the truth, you got another think coming. Because the million or so people in this country that are truly interested in the truth don't have any money.”

When and in what context was this statement...

.....made?

Everytime you think these guys couldn't be bigger assholes......

"The truth is a useless commodity"

Thanks.

Well ... no record

There is no official record of this quote reported by officer Al Martin. You can find different references on the internet by googling some of the keywords of the quote. It is quite abject and cynical I agree but not so untrue regarding the upper middle class according to the blog entry ...
