Ron Paul: 'Peace is powerful message'

RAW STORY
Published: Saturday May 26, 2007

Speaking as a guest on Bill Maher's HBO show this week, the underdog Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul issued a rebuke to the tough-talking Rudy Giuliani and spoke at length about the value of non-intervention in the pursuit of peaceful change.

"Peace is a powerful message," said Paul, speaking to Maher, along with fellow guests Ben Afflect and P.J. O'Rourke. "Especially after the war has been going on and the people wake up and realize how many people die and how much it costs. And that's why i think people are really ready for a message that says we don't have to be in this mess. Logic tells us that we can make a better world in a much easier way than causing wars."

After earning a reputation as an independent-minded politician, attacked by fellow Republicans for his unconventional viewpoints and championed by some liberals, Paul garnered attention in a recent debate between Republican candidates by arguing with Giuliani as to the role of US foreign policy in the 9/11 attacks. After defending his position, Paul described his hope that Giuliani may learn a little about the issue from a reading list provided to him by the Texas congressman.

"We have Mr. Giuliani studying tonight," joked Paul. "He's at home reading all those books, and he's gonna apologize to me - he's gonna say, 'I'm sorry Ron, I just didn't know that that's the way foreign policy works.'"

This is a tough one. All of

This is a tough one. All of us are obviously rooting for any candidate with a non-interventionist foriegn policy who respects civil liberties, and yes it would be political suicide for Paul to admit the obvious with respect 911; on the other hand his campaign is re-invigorating the discredited "blow-back" hypothesis just at the time when the official myth is on its last legs.

Perhaps his ensorement of the OFTis a good thing. It puts the onus on us.

I think we would do well to come to terms with the fact that no single politician, even a good man like Ron Paul, will be able to rescue us from this mess. Even in the unlikely event that he becomes president, he will have to battle forces arguably more powerful than the executive branch itself, be they transnational corporations and banks with profit margins eclipsing the GDP's of most countries, intelligence agencies and "old boy" networks, the Military Industrial Complex and so on.

In short: we need to take it upon ourselves to achieve results regardless of who gets elected. The future is in power from below, not above.

The Eleventh Day of Every Month

I agree with your second paragraph.

Look at my latest blog entry. There is a 20 minute speech by RP. He is totaly blowing the whistle on our slide into tyranny and dictatorship. He'll come out for 9/11 Truth when the time is right. He needs to stay politically viable for now. The deeper into the race he gets, the more he can influence public opinion.

But yes, it is up to us now. No savior will come.

Oh, and...

Bill Maher might have actually redeemed himself a little here. I'll still be glad to see him eat crow later for his ignorant remarks about 9/11 Truth.

Ron Paul has stuck by his words and deserves respect

While most American, current & former, Politicians are out there making a powerful statement that disagrees with the ideology of the current neocon Administration, Ron Paul is one of the few who hasn't caved into pressure and withdrew or apologized for his words. This is a man who speaks with clear concern, not for the government or party, for the American people. We need a representative of the truth who doesn't just believe it behind close doors but debates it on stage with the Rudy Giuliani's and John McCain's. I have followed Ron Paul when he spoke for Michael Ruppert's documentary 9/11truth & lies. He has always been against things like the Patriot Act, which most 9/11truthers share this resentment, and gone as far as voting against it and questioning its immediate arrival to and through congress. 9/11 truth should stand up for all truth of America that really threatens the American People. Why? Because every drop of blood fallen on 9/11 and every drop of blood fallen in Iraq by U.S. Soldiers is the blood of Patriots spilled by the blood hungry tyrants in the Masonic White House. We need someone who stands for right & wrong not left and right. I firmly believe ONLY Ron Paul will pursue an investigation of 9/11 if he is elected because as we can see he does not back down. Why else would he allow himself to appear on Ruppert's Truth & Lies D.V.D. if he didn't share his beliefs. It is time to recognize Ron Paul as the potentially largest public figure to represent 9/11 truth. So far indirectly but I have faith once he has the position to do so we will hear his truth and our truth all at once in every American home. Some truthers follow Kucinich, who is really a nut, and never directly stated his support any more than john Kerry. Just because a guy can listen doesn't make a great candidate, it's the response that establishes the candidate. As a man of founding father democracy, I will vote Ron Paul.

Maher Hasn't Come Around...

He just found out what a sucker he was. Once he actually listened to Paul instead of talking over him and making fun of Paul's statements, Maher realized what a straight shooter Paul is. Maher's to busy schilling for the CIA (watch the previous interview with Paul) to offer us much of a hang out. Paul is proving that people speaking the truth now have the greatest political power. Paul deserves all our support. We can blow-up blow-back. Let us speak simple truth to the American people as Ron Paul does....

Peace
