9/11 Live: The NORAD Tapes

Vanity Fair: Obtaining 30 hours of never-before-released tapes from the control room of NORAD's Northeast head-quarters, the author reconstructs the chaotic military history of that day—and the Pentagon's apparent attempt to cover it up.

"Subpoenaed by the commission during its investigation, the recordings have never been played publicly beyond a handful of sound bites presented during the commission's hearings. Last September, as part of my research for the film United 93, on which I was an associate producer, I requested copies from the Pentagon. I was played snippets, but told my chances of hearing the full recordings were nonexistent. So it was a surprise, to say the least, when a military public-affairs officer e-mailed me, a full seven months later, saying she'd been cleared, finally, to provide them."

"The signing of the Declaration of Independence took less coordination," she wrote.

what exactly?

andhowe
What exactly is the meaning of this post? The article is a year old and has been pretty much discredited by Griffin and others.

I disagree.

Its kind of a stretch to suggest Griffin discredited the piece.

It was posted today August 4 2007

and I slipped up by not noticing the August 2006 date on the quoted Vanity article. Still, here is additional information provided on the same intellgence monitoring site (has it realy been debunked?):

NORAD AIR OPERATIONS TAPES FROM SEPTEMBER 11TH

By Michael Ravnitzky

Recordings of air operations during the aerial terrorist attacks on September 11th and early on September 12th, 2001 are maintained at the U.S. Northern Command / NORTHCOM / NORAD and can be requested under the provisions of the Freedom of Information Act from this location:
HQ NORAD US NORTHCOM/CS FOIA
Attn: Luis E. Aguilar, Command FOIA Manager
250 Vandenberg Street, Suite B016
Peterson AFB, CO 80914-3804
719-554-8017

You can ask for a digital copy of tapes and recordings from the Ops (Operations) Floor and Battle Cab of the Northeast Air Defense Sector, or NEADS, and the North American Aerospace Defense Command, or NORAD. You can ask for tapes of external phone conversations from the post of Technical Sergeant Jeremy Powell, as well as the ID section and the Weapons Section. You can also ask for a copy of the transcripts of these tapes, prepared by the Department of Defense. You can also ask for a copy of the policy regarding release of these tapes. Part of this material, some 30 hours of September 11th NEADS/NORAD recordings, contained on three CD's containing large WAV audio files, were provided by a military public affairs officer to Michael Bronner, writing for Vanity Fair magazine. The tapes are described in great detail here:

How has this been debunked?

I to am surprised that blogger is putting up old articles. But the testimony in the NORAD tapes is totally valuable, and I didn't find Griffen to have "debunked" them. What does debunked them mean? Does this mean that all the recordings are scripted. Please explain and give a reference thanks.

I have one major caveat w/ the piece

the only thing I have against it is that it leaves out the NMCC phone bridge, which according to FAA spokesman Laura Brown (per journalist Tom Flocco) it began at about 8:45 am. According to NORAD head it began immediately after the second plane hit, and according to the Commission it started around 22 minutes after that (if memory serves me correct).

The NORAD Audio Tapes: Real or Faked?

http://www.911blogger.com/node/2391

Interview with Dr. David Ray Griffin regarding his most recent article, "9/11 Live or Fabricated: Do the NORAD Tapes Verify the 9/11 Commission Report?" Griffin's article, written primarily in response to Vanity Fair Magazine's, "9/11 Live: The NORAD Tapes" by Michael Bronner in their September 2006 issue, deconstructs the preposterous argument that NORAD was not notified by the FAA of hijacked airliners until they had struck their targets or crashed, and that the only jets the military scrambled were in response to a flight that did not exist. Griffin takes a close look at NORAD's audio tapes, on whose authenticity these claims depend.

Debunking 9/11 Debunking

David Ray Griffin's new book 'Debunking 9/11 Debunking' shreds the so called NORAD tapes, Bronner and more.

What Griffin shows is that

What Griffin shows is that the NORAD tapes do not jive at all with actual testimony by many officials, who were not lying or confused. The only thing the NORAD tapes jive with is themselves.
