9/11 Firefighter Sets the Historical Record Straight

By Manny Badillo, Victim’s Family Member, August 7th, 2007

BROOKLYN, N.Y. - Firefighter John Schroeder, assigned to Engine Company 10 directly across the street from the World Trade Center complex, holds back tears and describes his first-hand experience on Sept. 11th. His story directly contradicts many aspects of the National Commission on Terrorist attacks any corroborates many other eyewitnesses testimony.

“Standing outside the firehouse with my buddies, we were talking about how beautiful the day was. Then just like that, our lives changed forever. Some of those guys I would never see again.”

In this exclusive interview, Firefighter Schroeder recollects in great detail how he was one of the first firefighters to rush to the complex. “We first assembled on West Street, where we saw someone burnt beyond recognition. We were like ‘What is going on here?’ and then went straight into the Marriot building” From there, Firefighter Schroeder made his way to the lobby of the North Tower. “It looked like a bomb went off, and we started making our way up the stairs to rescue as many people as we could.”

As they were making there way up the floors, Firefighter Schroeder heard a huge explosion. “The elevators just blew right out. We couldn’t believe it. The plane hits 80 floors up but the elevators explode at least five minutes later? It was unreal.”

Firefighter Schroeder made it all the way up to the 23rd floor before barely hearing on the failing radios that another plane was coming in. That plane would hit the South Tower, though for some reason, “We were tossed like a rag doll by another explosion in our building. People were making there way down the stairwells burnt like you couldn’t believe. We were all shocked because it seemed as if there was fire everywhere, on so many floors. It just didn’t make sense”.

The stairwells were black, and at that point, firefighters were making the decision to head back down stairs. In making there way down to the third floor, they were not able to find an exit. “The lobby was like a war zone. We could not find our way out. Then, all of a sudden, one of the maintenance workers had a key that opened a back door that got us out of there. He saved my life.” That worker was Willie Rodriguez. “I want to thank him from the bottom of my heart."

Firefighter Schroeder today has lost 40% of his lung capacity. “We haven’t been treated properly at all. From the day of the attack, our physical and mental health has deteriorated and it seems as if no one cares. To lose friends, to have to recover their bodies in the days after, to be offered no protections against that horrific-smelling dust that was everywhere even though the government said the air was OK to breathe is just not right.” Some of Firefighter’s Schroeder’s best friends have gotten out of the FDNY altogether while others accepted money and trips to help. “I stayed right here and did the right thing and now it feels as if I’m suffering the most. Where is our government to help the one’s with the toughest jobs on that day and the days after?”

John Schroeder, we want to thank you for being as brave as your job requires in speaking out about your experiences on Sept/ 11th. You have set the historical record straight by explaining your story. This Nation is forever grateful to you as your account will help to save and protect many more lives.

Today, tens of thousands of such 9/11 first responders are in dire need of medical care due to the environmental conditions after the 3 towers imploded at Ground Zero. Diagnosed with cancers and debilitating respiratory illnesses, these true American heroes have been denied the financial benefits required to save their lives. While suffering and deteriorating, their health crisis has been ignored by state and federal policy. Many have already died.

Composed of family members, friends and fellow Americans of individuals who perished on that fateful day, We are Change will fight to raise awareness and consciousness to the first responders' illnesses and hardships. We are determined to put a face to the thousands of forgotten victims of the 9/11 attacks 6 years later.

9/11 "Truthers" ignore tragedy of first responders

Please be polite (as possible) and ask for a retraction and apology.

Better yet, why doesn't someone write an open letter with sources such as this to show how false this claim of "ignoring" is once and for all?

“We're an empire now, and when we act we create our own reality."

Here is what I sent her:

CFP "Journalist" Ignores Threats to Canadian Sovereignty

Regarding your article entitled '911 "Truthers" Ignore Tragedy of First Responders' where you make the statement that 911 Truthers don't care about the first responders available here:

http://www.canadafreepress.com/2007/cover072307.htm

I thought I'd correct you on that and let you know that these Truthers are the only ones for years that could even be bothered to ask questions as to why the government made the statement that the air was "Safe to Breathe" immediately after the attacks thereby signing the death warrants of countless rescue workers. Without the 911 Widows, the Jersey Girls, the government never would have been forced to investigate the attacks, as pathetic of an investigation it turned out to be. Without the Truthers asking these questions for years, "journalists" such as yourself wouldn't have the freedom to begin asking the difficult questions of the attacks. Where was the media for all these years?

That being said, people like you still refuse to do your job, despite the valiant efforts of the alternative media which should only give you the courage to break the ties of corporate censorship, you would rather attack the real free press rather than join them. Case in point, I browsed through your "Exclusive Cover Stories" archive and see nothing you have written this year about the Security and Prosperity Partnership (SPP) or the Trade, Investment, and Labour Mobility Act (TILMA), two acts which effectively destroy the sovereignty of Canada and place control of our country squarely in the hands of the corporate elite.

I would think that an "Award Winning Journalist with 25 Years Experience" would take the time to write maybe an article or two informing the Canadian public of this looming threat to their sovereignty. Or are you, just like every other journalist and politician simply unaware of these restrictive trade deals? Sorry, that excuse doesn't fly, it is your job as an "Award Winning Journalist" to know and report on what is going on.

So here it is in a nutshell, TILMA is a trade agreement already put in place between BC and Alberta which allows corporations from one province to overrule local policies in the other province if they can show that the policies inhibits their ability to make a profit. And if a local government dares stand up to these tactics, they are faced with lawsuits which can result in awards of 5 million dollars per instance. Governments and tax payers will have no choice but to step aside and let corporations take over. Ontario and Quebec are looking to join TILMA as well, and SO DOES THE UNITED STATES. American corporations, under TILMA, will have the power to supersede policies written by Canadian taxpayers.

The SPP (otherwise known as the North American Union) is a plan being concocted in secret by the leaders of Canada, the U.S., and Mexico which seek to eliminate trade barriers and "harmonize" policies between the three countries to facilitate trade. Thats right, your wage will be "harmonized" to be more compatible with your Mexican counterpart, so will your environmental and human rights policies as well. The SPP seeks to integrate virtually ALL policies, including security and military between the three countries. Do you believe Canada will have an equal seat at these meetings?

So, please spend a little less time attacking others who are only doing what they feel is right, and do your job. I look forward to your forthcoming articles on the SPP and TILMA. I am happy to help out in any way I can with the details of your report. If I don't hear from you, I will assume you already know all the details and are happily writing your article.

In the meantime, here is a video of those pesky "Truthers" not ignoring as you say, but interviewing a first responder who is suffering endlessly because of the events of that day. I don't see anyone else in the media giving these heroes a voice.

Judi McLeod the cfp

Judi McLeod the cfp journalist who wrote that should be complaining to Rudy Giuliani. The firefighters and first responders don't have issue with the 911 truthers but at Rudy Giuliani. Why isnt she complaining to him. Bahhh

re: Need More Like This!

.
It's riveting! It's the simple fact Mr. Schroeder was there, a firefighter who was a first responder on 9/11, that makes his account of that pivotal day--very compelling!

It's a little long, but again, one feels compelled to watch because it's a first person account. Mr. Schroeder's best quote, "too many questions, not enough answers".

His relating of memory loss and reduction of lung capacity as a result adds gravity to his comments.

..don't believe them!

Thats good letter. We all

Thats good letter. We all need to write to her.

AWESOME !

.........This needs to be sent to every fire station in the country..........
Come on firefighters UNITE !

interesting account

Its obvious from this firefighter's descriptive down to earth account that its a cover up. Everything didn't add up and that just on wtc. The lobby being blown out being a prime example. The forgotten heroes maltreatment is an absolute disgrace. This firefighter should be included in loosechange final.

I can't watch it...

It breaks my heart to keep hearing him say, "rest in peace", "he's no longer with us", "I never saw him again."

Sorry guys. Good job.

Donate To 9/11 First Responders

What about...

all the other firemen that were filmed talking about explosions? Loose change guys.....think you can get them together for a video?

DVD for Firefighters.

I dropped off 9/11 Mysteries, TerrorStorm etc at my local firestation, but I would love to have a movie put together specifically for firefighters. Possibly with testimony from firefighters, health issues of firefighters, etc etc.

That would probably have a bigger impact on some of these guys. Peace.

EXACTLY !.............

Power in numbers. We need to rally all the firemen, first responders, and victims family members to make a video. Who better then those there to add teeth to the truth.
It would at the very least bash the official... it offends the victims family line of BS.

Somebody please clarify

Around 11 minutes into the Loose Change version, John explains that he more or less out ran the building and jumped into the river. He was among the last out of the North Tower, along with WR. But then he says that he *later* witnessed the other tower go down. The problem is the South Tower had already fallen. I'm not trying to cause problems. But this needs to be clarified.

Mr. Shroeder didn't say he later witnessed the other tower go

down. I interpret it as him saying that after the North Tower fell, he ran & came upon the rubble of the South Tower, & knew something was very wrong.

Still not clear

"After that [i.e. jumping into river etc.]...and then came the other tower."
It *sounds like* he means then the other tower came down, not that he came across the ruins of the other tower (as though it was the first time he realized that the other tower had fallen). Perhaps Mr. Shroeder is the only one who could clarify this, because it does not seem clear from the video. I think the whole running out of the building, being blown across Liberty street, and taking off his cloths while out running the building needs to be stated more slowly and clearly. (I am not challenging his credibility. I just think that as it stands it gives *the impression* that he is saying something which doesn't add up.)

solace

the only way to bring solace to the firefighters like this guy is to arrest those who planned and carried out the attacks.
