Zogby Poll: 51% of Americans Want Congress to Probe Bush/Cheney Regarding 9/11 Attacks; Over 30% Seek Immediate Impeachment

67% also fault 9/11 Commission for not investigating anomalous collapse of World Trade Center 7

Kansas City, MO (Zogby International) September 6, 2007 - As America nears the sixth anniversary of the world-churning events of September 11, 2001, a new Zogby International poll finds a majority of Americans still await a Congressional investigation of President Bush' and Vice President Cheney's actions before, during and after the 9/11 attacks. Over 30% also believe Bush and/or Cheney should be immediately impeached by the House of Representatives.

The 911truth.org-sponsored poll also found that over two-thirds of Americans say the 9/11 Commission should have investigated the still unexplained collapse of the 47-story World Trade Center Building 7 at 5:20 p.m. on September 11, 2001.

WTC 7 housed the mayor's emergency bunker and offices of the SEC, IRS, CIA and Secret Service and was not hit by any planes but still completely collapsed into its own footprint nearly eight hours after the Twin Tower attacks. FEMA did not explain this collapse, the 911 Commission ignored it, and the promised official study by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is now 2 years overdue.

Janice Matthews, executive director of poll sponsor 911truth.org, observes: "The response to this question signals an increasing public concern with questions about this remarkable event -- up from 38% last year. We can perhaps credit this rising awareness to the millions who have recently witnessed videos or Youtube clips of this skyscraper's descent and the outspoken demands for a new WTC inquiry from over 150 architects and engineering professionals, including NIST's own former Fire Science Division Chief, Dr. James Quintiere. Another contributory factor is the increased questioning among Hispanics, Blacks and Asians whose responses appear significantly more critical of the 9/11 Commission than Whites, sometimes twice as critical."

Strategy aide W. David Kubiak adds, "While only 32% seek immediate Bush and/or Cheney impeachment based on their current personal knowledge, a clear majority of citizens still seems hungry for a full exposure of the facts. The results suggest widespread public support for legislators like Rep. Dennis Kucinich who pledge to investigate unanswered 9/11 questions in the relevant congressional committees this fall. We hope more of our representatives find the spine to respond to this escalating dissatisfaction with the dubious accounting we have received thus far."

9/11 family member and 911truth.org adviser Donna Marsh O'Connor notes, "I'm not sure this poll is at all surprising. Over half of those polled want more answers from Congress, from those they hired to represent them. One quarter of the country knows enough to want to impeach both. Doesn't it just mean people need figures they consider credible to tell them whether key details add up or not? Truth advocates need to press their case in Congress, on college campuses, in church groups with reason and absolute discipline regarding what can and cannot be proven. The strongest evidence needs to reach the people-including people who hate computers. We must present it calmly. Like whispering so that people reach in to hear."

Poll Sponsor

The Zogby poll was conceived and commissioned by 911truth.org and paid for with generous assistance from individual project donors and Visibility911.com. 911truth.org is a national information clearing house and grassroots resource center for the US 9/11 truth movement. The group is dedicated to investigation, education, organizing, and accountability regarding the recent criminal misuse of government to promote fear, repression and endless war.

Survey Methodology

This is a telephone survey of adults nationwide conducted by Zogby International. The target sample is 1,000 interviews with approximately 71 questions asked. Samples are randomly drawn from telephone cd's of national listed sample. Zogby International surveys employ sampling strategies in which selection probabilities are proportional to population size within area codes and exchanges. As many as six calls are made to reach a sampled phone number. Cooperation rates are calculated using one of AAPOR's approved methodologies and are comparable to other professional public-opinion surveys conducted using similar sampling strategies. Weighting by region, party, age, race, religion, and gender is used to adjust for non-response. The margin of error is +/- 3.1 percentage points. Margins of error are higher in sub-groups.

Thank you 911Truth.org!!! I do believe we have a mandate. Unlike Bush's, this one is real.

A "Full And Complete Accounting" Of The 9/11 Attacks

I would guess that

Americans don't understand the difference between "impeachment" and "removal" after impeachment. I would bet that it they did understand the difference, a much higher number would be in favor of starting impeachment proceedings.

it's those internets they are voting multiple times

::rolls eyes::

We're winning!

Keep it up!

This is great news!

If someone

Diggs the story (please), we'll post the Digg link.

Rasmussen Polls

I have worked with the Zogby and Rasmussen polling companies, when I was the Polling Director for several political candidates, including Aaron Russo, Michael Badnarik, Ed Thompson, and Judge Jim Gray.

This 9/11 Truth poll is great, I have just emailed it out to all my friends.

Anyone can commission a poll. They are valuable for publicity and fundraising.

Zogby polls cost more than twice as much as Rasmussen polls.

You can get a Rasmussen poll done for only about $3000.

The more 9/11 polling done, the better!

The Future Looks Bright

If you look at the details of the poll, more than 64% of people age 18-29 support a new investigation, and more than 78%! of people age 18-24 support a new investigation. All of these people have to either know or strongly suspect it was an inside job. Regardless of how much progress we make from here on out (and no, I'm not advocating that we become complacent) I am confident that these young people will teach their kids that 9/11 was an inside job when they are old enough. That's at least very encouraging.

However, we've got to start thinking about ways to spread our message to the older demographic. Obviously some favorable, in depth MSM coverage would help out with that a lot. But, we can't count on that, so we've got to focus on people in their 30s and older.

... two thirds of the interviewees believe the official story, while only a quarter thinks LIHOP and 5 percent MIHOP.

Also, only slightly over a third say they want the attacks to be reinvestigated. Doesn't this contradict the result that 51 percent want to have Bush's and Cheney's role reinivestigated?!

The questions could have been better put

This question is too long and thus poorly worded: "There are three main schools of thought regarding the 9/11 attacks. The first theory is the official story, and maintains that 19 Arab fundamentalists executed a surprise attack which caught US intelligence and military forces off guard. The second theory known as Let It Happen argues that certain elements in the US government knew the attacks were coming but consciously let them proceed for various political, military and economic motives; and the third theory Made It Happen contends that certain US government elements actively planned or assisted some aspects of the attacks. Based upon your knowledge of 9/11 events and their aftermath, which theory are you more likely to agree with?"

This question yields: 64% accept OCT, while 31% are MIHOP or LIHOP.

This question has better wording, though it is still too long: "Some people say that so many unanswered questions about 9/11 remain that the nation needs a new independent investigation of the attacks, including whether any US government officials consciously allowed or helped facilitate their success. Other people say the 9/11 attacks were thoroughly investigated and that any speculation about US government involvement is absurd. Who are you more likely to agree with?"

This one yields: 57% say the day was "thoroughly investigated," while 37% believe there should be a new investigation.

This question has the clearest wording and is the shortest and most to the point: "In October 2006, a New York Times/CBS poll found that only 16% of Americans believe they have been told the whole truth about this administration's foreknowledge of the September 11 attacks. Based upon your knowledge of 9/11 events, do you agree or disagree that the Congress should investigate the executive branch's conduct prior to, during and following the September 11 attacks?"

This one yields: 51% agree, while 46% disagree.

Thanks to those who sponsored this poll, but I hope that next time the questions will be more carefully chosen/worded. Just these three questions alone show how much a poll can be slanted one way or the other. If Zogby wrote the questions, you should get 1/2 of your money back.

Best to realize that polling "science" contains a great deal of politics, psychology, and leading for the desired response. That's the way it is and we should be smart enough to use those factors to our advantage.

JFK on secrecy and the press

Past polls and this one seem to indicate a core of believers in 9/11 Truth that comprise about 35% of Americans. Those people are convinced. That number by itself is pretty astounding, given the mainstream media blackout. If the media did their job, that number would double easily.

What is more encouraging are the numbers that suggest a group of about 30% of Americans are open to the possibility that the 9/11 story is a fraud. Altogether, about 60-70% of Americans either don't believe the 9/11 story or are open to the possibility it is flawed. Those numbers are remarkable, given the pervasive propaganda that follows the event around.

But as you say, the wording of the poll questions determines much. How, for example, do we explain the NYTimes poll that says 84% of Americans don't believe Bush/Cheney are telling the whole truth about pre-9/11 intelligence, and yet this poll says 64% accept the OCT? That means a bunch of people believe Bush/Cheney are lying, but they also believe the OCT. Huh?

But why aren't...

100,000,000 (give or take) people out in the streets? Why is America's sense of morality gone?

A "Full And Complete Accounting" Of The 9/11 Attacks

Could be many don't know where to go

Jon, I have to believe a lot of people just don't know where to go to join a demonstration. I know I had to look around for the fellows from Philly 911Truth on August 11th and I try to stay in touch with this movement.

When I was with you at Independence Hall on March 11th about 1 in 3 people were interested. On August 11th I would say 3 out of 5 were interested and took material.

I think the recent merging of the impeachment, anti-war, and 911 Truth movements may start to produce larger demonstrations.

Additionally, some people just may not fully appreciate the insidiousness of the entire 911 affair and what it was intended to do.

I think we need to get

I think we need to get serious about raising some real money to take this movement to the next level. To do that most effectively, we need a reputable figurehead. Best, in my view, would be D. R. Griffin. I floated this idea (nothing original here) a few months ago and learned that DRG would probably be willing to oversee such a fund. I am sorry to say that I have pursued this no further, but I took a look at the time commitment and decided I would simply not be able to follow through on doing the fund-raising myself. Nonetheless, he may be willing (if my info is correct) and I believe that many of us would donate if we knew the fund was going to be overseen by someone like him. Can we get a few wise heads together and move forward with something like this?

To answer Jon's question about American morality--aren't most people simply glued to the "consensus reality" that is created and maintained by the media, politicians, many academics, corporations, etc.? It's both moral and intellectual weakness that keeps them stuck in their narrow sensibilities, but that's how it is.

JFK on secrecy and the press

Psychological aspects affecting answers

It may also be that the following question produced so good results largely because the respondents read about a NYT/CBS poll according to which "only 16 percent believe they have been told the whole truth..." and felt they didn't want to belong to a small and uncritical minority:

In October 2006, a New York Times/CBS poll found that only 16% of Americans believe they have been told the whole truth about this administration's foreknowledge of the September 11 attacks. Based upon your knowledge of 9/11 events, do you agree or disagree that the Congress should investigate the executive branch's conduct prior to, during and following the September 11 attacks?"

I'd say that was a fairly clever formulation.

Oh my God.

This is breathtaking. There's no going back now.

Not a peep...

From the McMedia. Add this poll to the list of "newsworthy" things that has happened with regard to 9/11 that has been ignored.

To all "newcomers", that particular list is a VERY looooooooooooooooooooooooong one.
