There's some VERY useful information at the below link, including contact information / internet link for all senators and some tips on how you can get the operator to transfer you through them...

Please note this example if for the "hate crimes bill" opposed to the Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act... but the procedure and contact information is the same !!!

HR 1955...seems scary...Read the Bill before allowing PANIC

Noted that the name of the Bill "Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act of 2007" is scary but when I read further...maybe not so scary. We all need to do our homework...and I will be the first to admit that I DON'T understand all the possible implications of this bill and so cannot reliably comment as to whether this is the "EMERGENCY" that has been called for on this blog. I think we need to be mindful as opposed to possibly alarmist in these matters. I recommend that concerned people write to their reps and inquire as to the implications and possible loopholes in such a bill.

The above link has an "Overview", "summary", "speeches" and "others" tabs which all open up to more information regarding this specific bill.

Jane Harman sponsored the bill. She is a Dem and I noted that mostly DEMs supported this bill.

AN EXCERPT:

H.R. 1955, the Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act of 2007, protects the civil rights and civil liberties of Americans and lawful permanent residents, while providing solutions for preventing future violent radicalization and homegrown terrorism.

The act creates a national commission to examine the cases of violent radicalization and homegrown terrorism. The commission will be tasked with proposing concrete recommendations and legislative strategies for mitigating these types of domestically nurtured threats.

The act also establishes Centers for Excellence for the Prevention of Radicalization that will study the social, criminal, political, psychological, and economic roots of the problem. Additionally, it will provide Homeland Security officials across the government with suggestions for preventing future radicalization and homegrown terrorism. It requires our Homeland Security officials to thoroughly examine the experiences of other nations that have experienced homegrown terrorism so that our government can learn from those experiences. I look forward to the passage of this vital piece of legislation and others that will make this Nation even more safe.

Sounds scary to me

"while providing (final?) solutions for preventing future violent radicalization and homegrown terrorism."

We are becoming radical (getting to the root of the problem) by the criminal behavior of our own government. It is ironic that we are being branded "domestic terrorists" by groups who gained notoriety for rooting out the crimes of WW11, as we are investigating the crimes of our own century. If getting to the root of the problem (investigating 9/11) asks difficult questions, so be it, we are radicals. The corrupt government has little to defend itself from the truth of its own rot.

We are becoming Radical

While not defending this bill, I think there is a distinction between Violent Radicalization and becoming "radical".

If "law" is based upon the absolute definition of words, than we need to simply understand better what the true outcome will be... if this bill were to pass.

"Violent" adds a whole new dimension to the meaning of Radicalization.

I am not a lawyer and actually have difficulty understanding/comprehending the actual text of any law but it seems to read more in the line of requesting the funds to study how and why "Violent Radical" Groups emerge in society...I don't necessarily think that trying to understand that "social dynamic" is a bad thing. Maybe I am simply ignorant and completely missing the obvious fact that the whole agenda of this law is to go after "TRUTHERs" because we DO pose a real threat to them.

So Scary sounding, yes...but we need to dispel the "FEAR" that is induced by the TITLE and read for content. That is my only point for having written in the first place. Pick your battles but be sure you know what you are fighting before possibly wasting a lot of time and energy that might be better spent elsewhere. That might be THEIR strategy too...to get us distracted from our cause. It's working, I am spending time thinking and writing more about this.

Stop it!

You are being an irrational fear-monger of the first order and worst kind.

I quit believing anything printed in Newsweek years ago when I saw how they completely skewed their "reporting" on the Animal Rights Movement, using near-truths, untruths, outright lies of commission and omission, spin, and the like, about stuff I knew to be incorrect.

And If they are doing it there, about that, they are doing it everywhere, about everything.

Not to mention you are falling into "their" trap.

OK, we get it. There is nothing to fear anywhere.

How about if you try posting something with some actual substance? Got any?

"How about if you try posting something with some actual substance? Got any?"

Whether or not he likes to play "devils advocate", his inflammatory language seems intended to provoke a response. I'll take him seriously after he writes something of consequence. In the mean time, I'll get a laugh out of him once in a while.

As for the post, this is only common sense. You would have to be borderline crazy (or not part of the 9/11 truth movement/or a neocon) to not give a damn about what this corrupt government is doing. Pretending it isn't happening won't make it go away.

In a conversation with my Congressman's aide,...

...she ensured me that this legislation only created a commission to study the influence of Islamo-fascism in America's prisons. That any other interpretation was hysterical and without merit.

A big red flag for me anymore is when CONgress uses misleading titles for and vague language in legislation, and then tries to impart that their Acts are not intended to be ever directed against Americans. Has anyone else here tried to discuss this with their CONgresscritter? Does anyone else who has read H.R. 1995 find this explanation just a wee bit on the stinky side?

I told her that any such commission would be more productive if it directed the focus of its investigations toward the CIA. She wasn't amused.
