Letter to National Public Radio

On Wednesday on "The World" I heard a story on UFO's. GEEZ. When will the nonsense stop.

I use to think when I heard these ridiculous stories on otherwise serious news that this must be indeed a free society where even the nuttiest stories have a chance to be heard. With the omission of such a serious story as WTC7, I now have a very cynical view about the value of all of your stories.

Do you not agree that the collapse of a 47 story tall building on 911 that cannot be explained 6 years later by the best government scientists at NIST is an incontrovertible truth and that many people still do not even know that this building existed? Do you not agree that a story of this magnitude should be covered by the news?

I don't know why you have ignored this story. Many reasons come to mind. Is it too politically sensitive? Will the truth, and what it may lead to, turn away too many listeners? Are you unwilling to admit that this is an important story? Are you simply unable because of what your bosses will let you do?

Do you not realize how important your position is to keep our government honest? Indeed you are a fourth branch of government. Why are you failing in your responsibility? I believe you've all entered the journalist profession with the utmost sincerity and commitment. Why has that faltered?

Hell, is there even anyone who reads the email over there any more?? I'd really like to hear your position on this.

I got this response from the BBC's Ann Lopez ( I think "The World" on NPR is produced by the BBC).

Dear Geoffrey Ritchey:

Thank you for your e-mail. Here is a link to the BBC site which addresses the issue of World Trade Center 7 or the Salomon building: http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/theeditors/2007/03/part_of_the_conspiracy_2.html.

We appreciate your taking the time to share your thoughts with us and we may include an excerpt from your e-mail in the Listener Mailbag Segment of our broadcast.

Thanks for listening to our program.

Sincerely,

Ann F. Lopez
Associate Producer
