Kristina Borjesson: Morphing Osama

I found this prominently as a guest contribution on Buzzflash.
They seem to be more and more inclined to go towards 9/11 truth

by Kristina Borjesson

Late in December 2007, The Associated Press reporter Salah Nasrawi wrote a story about a Bin Laden audiotape that had just been released. Headlined "Bin Laden Threatens Israel, Warns Iraqis," Nasrawi's piece details Osama's dire threats to expand al Qaeda's jihad in Israel and to "liberate Palestine, the whole of Palestine from the (Jordan) river to the sea," threatening "blood for blood, destruction for destruction."

Then, 11 paragraphs down, Nasrawi writes: "The authenticity of the tape could not be independently confirmed. But the voice resembled that of bin Laden. The tape was posted on an Islamic militant Web site where al-Qaida's media arm, Al-Sahab, issues the group's messages."

If the tape can't be vetted, it shouldn't be used. That's Journalism 101. At the very least, the fact that it can't be authenticated should be mentioned in the story's title and continuously mentioned throughout the story as the quotes are being used. Worse, all the mainstream TV outlets picked up on Nasrawi's story and liberally quoted "bin Laden" without bothering to use the word "purported" or another adjective indicating they had no proof it was Bin Laden on the tape. Collectively, what these journalists are doing is worse than outright lying to the public. They are literally helping dangerous people with deadly hidden agendas create a virtual reality by unquestioningly conveying their messages.

Nasrawi didn't just bury the authentication problem in his story. He also referred to earlier, equally questionable "bin Laden" communiques. "The tape was the fifth message released by bin Laden this year, a flurry of activity after he went more than a year without issuing any tapes. The messages began with a Sept. 8 video that showed bin Laden for the first time in nearly three years. The other messages this year have been audiotapes."

Reporting on unauthenticated bin Laden tapes as if they were real is, shamefully, getting to be an old practice. In November 2002, a "bin Laden" audiotape surfaced and a senior State Department official explained to CNN that the voice on the tape was indeed Bin Laden's, but that "we don't know yet whether anybody put it together, spliced or computer-generated it."

Just how could "anybody" computer-generate bin Laden's voice and create an entire bogus statement?

On February 1, 1999, William Arkin, writing for, described a voice-morphing technology that government scientists at Los Alamos laboratory in New Mexico had developed.

Of course, Osama Bin Laden could be dead

Mike Rivero over at, amongst others, maintains that Osama Bin Laden is dead. This is based on published obituaries, and other evidence.

Here is a snipet found while googling: from

Translation of Funeral Article in Egyptian Paper: al-Wafd, Wednesday, December 26, 2001 Vol 15 No 4633

News of Bin Laden's Death and Funeral 10 days ago

Islamabad -

A prominent official in the Afghan Taleban movement announced yesterday the death of Osama bin Laden, the chief of al-Qa'da organization, stating that binLaden suffered serious complications in the lungs and died a natural and quiet death. The official, who asked to remain anonymous, stated to The Observer of Pakistan that he had himself attended the funeral of bin Laden and saw his face prior to burial in Tora Bora 10 days ago. He mentioned that 30 of al-Qa'da fighters attended the burial as well as members of his family and some friends from the Taleban. In the farewell ceremony to his final rest guns were fired in the air. The official stated that it is difficult to pinpoint the burial location of bin Laden because according to the Wahhabi tradition no mark is left by the grave. He stressed that it is unlikely that the American forces would ever uncover any traces of bin Laden.

Death of Osama bin Laden in 2001

Although the corpse of bin Laden would never be found, various sources alluded to the circumstances that led to his death in the Middle East.

According to United Press International (Oct. 31, 2001), bin Laden underwent clandestine kidney treatment by Dr. Terry Calloway (Canadian urologist) for 11 days in July at the American Hospital in Dubai. During his hospital stay, bin Laden met with a U.S. CIA agent, according to French daily Le Figaro and Radio France International. The day before the infamous September 11 terrorist attacks, bin Laden entered a military hospital for further kidney dialysis treatment in Raqalpindi, Pakistan, reported by CBS (Jan. 28, 2002).

In an interview with CNN (Jan. 19, 2002), Pakistan’s President Pervez Musharraf hinted, “He (bin Laden) is dead for the reason he is a ...kidney patient.” Musharraf also mentioned that bin Laden took two dialysis machines with him into Afghanistan.

A few days later, Dr. Sanjay Gupta on CNN (Jan. 21, 2002) gave his professional assessment of bin Laden’s medical condition based on the videotape broadcasted by al Jazeera on December 27, 2001. He explained that bin Laden’s ghastly appearance — “grayness of beard, paleness of skin, very gaunt sort of features” — is often associated with chronic kidney failure or renal failure. He also noted that bin Laden couldn’t move his left arm probably due to a stroke because people suffering from kidney failures have a higher risk for stroke. Dr. Gupta pointed out that dialysis machines require electricity, clean water and a sterile environment to function properly. Without an operational machine, a patient could only survive for less than a week.

And from Michael Rivero:
quoting the New York Times, The Death of bin Ladenism,
Published: July 11, 2002:

Osama bin Laden is dead. The news first came from sources in Afghanistan and Pakistan almost six months ago: the fugitive died in December [2001] and was buried in the mountains of southeast Afghanistan. Pakistan's president, Pervez Musharraf, echoed the information. The remnants of Osama's gang, however, have mostly stayed silent, either to keep Osama's ghost alive or because they have no means of communication. Click for full sized image
With an ego the size of Mount Everest, Osama bin Laden would not have, could not have, remained silent for so long if he were still alive. He always liked to take credit even for things he had nothing to do with. Would he remain silent for nine months and not trumpet his own survival? [New York Times. July 11, 2002]

On a dissenting note:

Saudi authorities rejected the information originally published by French newspaper L'Est Republicain about the death of world’s most wanted terrorist, the founder of al-Qaeda terrorist network, Osama bin Laden. An official statement released by the government of Saudi Arabia said that it was speculative information the reliability of which was not confirmed by independent sources.

It is worthy of note that the above-mentioned provincial French newspaper published not really an article but a commentary to the facsimile report of the France’s military intelligence. The report particularly referred to certain sources in Saudi Arabia which claimed that Osama bin Laden died of typhoid fever on August 23 in Pakistan. The headline of the report had the top secret stamp and the abbreviation of the special service – D.G.S.E. The service, the newspaper wrote, sent the report to the President of France Jacques Chirac and Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin. The French Defense Department has not rejected the authenticity of the document.

I have no idea where the truth lies.

You're missing the point

Unauthenticated videos were used to "prove" the official story.

The truth is simple. The official story is not supported by any reliable evidence, and it's the government's burden to prove how almost 3,000 people died on 9/11, not to mention prove its justification for attacking Afghanistan.

No, I am augmenting the point, not missing it

I am actually not missing the point, I am just pointing out other ways in which Osama related events could be a complete fraud. If the obituaries are legitimate, not themselves a scam, then we have a fraud (the videos) built upon a fraud. If the obituaries were incorrect, why was there not a significant retraction in all places where they were published? Perhaps there was, I have not been able to determine this. If Osama is indeed dead, as indicated by obituaries in the New York Times and various other papers, why are the videos treated as legitimate.

OK, sorry

I'm just thinking we should stick with the simple fact that there is no reliable evidence of bin Laden admitting to 9/11. There is no reliable evidence of KSM admitting anything, either. Destruction of tapes by CIA makes this simple point stronger. We should always have placed the burden of proof on the government, given the importance of what it was asking us to believe.

But you're right, reports of his death makes it easier for people to question authenticity of the videos.

Wouldn' verification of his death be the strongest card?

It occurred to me this morning that if we were able to:
1 - confirm his death with solid evidence; and,
2 - force the mainstream media (dream on) into acknowledging his death unambiguously;

we would be able to nullify any and all claims that videos after the death were the work of Bin Laden. We would no longer have to discuss things such as difference in nose shape, beard colour, handedness, and so on. All of these are weak in themselves, although collectiively they do raise strong doubts for informed minds.

Anyway, points 1 and 2 above are both problematic obviously.

Many stories like this...

Can you imagine the day when the US Government admits that it allowed this administration to cover-up the true nature of 9/11 Attacks and it led to 100,000s of deaths in multiple countries?

Can't Stop 9/11 Fever

Somebody is Lying

Benazir Bhutto said Osama was killed by Omar so and so. These posts here claim he died back in 2001 of kindey failure or some other such ailment. The last released footage of him looked so weird everyone said "huh?". And we know morphing exists, of sound AND video. Then the guy was a CIA asset back in the day. And why would .Gov waste their precious time trying to decode an Osama tape for "hidden messages" when the whole damn tape is a message? Why is .Gov disseminating Terrorist threats and propaganda to begin with?

It's just too much.

About the Bhutto thing...

She misspoke. She meant to say "Daniel Pearl" who was allegedly "murdered" by Omar Sheikh in 2002. Bhutto acknowledged that OBL was alive during an interview on CNN the day after David Frost's interview, and in an interview 10 days later on National Public Radio:

Benazir Bhutto interviewed on CNN, November 3, 2007

Benazir Bhutto interviewed on NPR, November 13, 2007

"If I had just paid $20 million for the NIST report, I'd be asking for a refund!... The trouble with the NIST Report is that it isn’t even science because it's not capable of being verified or negated!"
-Dr. Frank Greening

Very Strange Though if she Misspoke...

It's hard to see how she could have said so clearly, "Omar Sheikh who murdered Usama Bin Laden" when she meant Daniel Pearl!

Even stranger is that David Frost didn't ask anything about that...

Then the BBC played a sanitized version of the same interview with the Usama Bin Laden revelation missing..

Furthermore, if December 15, 2001 is the last confirmed communication by Bin Laden, then the timeline would be consistent.

Was Bhutto forced to change her story or did she simply misspeak?

Regardless, if UBL is still alive, he is not the one in the recent videos. And this is what's important. We are being lied to.

Thanks for the links. I was going to write a letter to the editor about Bhutto's revelation that Bin Laden is dead. Maybe I shouldn't do so now?

No, not strange. It happens in life every day

Bhutto also said bin Laden was alive many times leading up to the Frost interview and at least twice after it. She misspoke. It happens.

"If I had just paid $20 million for the NIST report, I'd be asking for a refund!... The trouble with the NIST Report is that it isn’t even science because it's not capable of being verified or negated!"
-Dr. Frank Greening

Several things...

Osama likely died in December 2001 from kidney failure. Why else would he expose himself seeking kidney treatment in July and September at the US military hospital in Dubai and at the Pakistani military hospital in Rawalpindi! He was desperate for a miracle cure, because he was very ill (and he looked it).

Most of these tapes are of such a poor quality that they are laughable. The latest video production puts the nail in the coffin.

If Osama was alive he wouldn't need to talk over a still image of himself, and he wouldn't need to splice audio together to form phrases. This is junior high school level Jihadism.

He would also make his own video calling out the fakes, if he was alive (and free).

I also agree that Bhutto misspoke and meant to say "Daniel Pearl" in that video.

Osama 2.0 would like us to read CIA fraudster Michael Scheuer's work, if you recall.

Scheuer is the man who studiously avoided capturing bin Laden before 9/11, when his job description seemed to imply that he should.

Scheuer's former department, the "Alec Station" was shut down, and no longer looking for bin Laden as of July 4th 2006. They do love sliding things through on holidays. Rah rah America.

Editor's Additions:
8/27/2002 Oliver North: "Bin Laden Dead" (NY Times)
"[North] is convinced that Mr. bin Laden is dead, quite possibly buried beneath the rubble of an American airstrike in Afghanistan. 'I'm certain that Osama is dead,' Mr. North said, his certitude on this subject - and so many others - just about palpable. 'I'm convinced of it, absolutely. And so are all the other guys I stay in touch with.'
Original URL:

All the other guys he "stays in touch with"? Is North still one of THEM or what? His old buddy and fellow Iran-Contra fall guy, Poindexter, has a new job with the government, so is it a stretch to think that North himself has also returned - to a covert function?

The article is about North's new novel, set in the 1990s. The protagonist, a North-like character on the White House national security staff, crusades to stop an attack on America by a conspiracy headed by Saddam Hussein and Osama Bin Laden. But his main nemesis is a Clinton-like president, who restrains him (and endangers the country) with reckless talk of due process. To the Times, author North admits that he doesn't actually believe in a Saddam-Osama connection. But what the hell, it makes a good script. The first printing of the book, by a Christian publisher: 300,000 copies.

10/19/2002 bin Laden reported in Saudi Arabia (
"DEBKAfile reveals that the long-lost al Qaeda leader, Saudi-born Osama bin Laden, is alive and in Saudi Arabia. He is believed to have landed secretly at the end of September ... Two sightings of the elusive terrorist chief have now been reported – both in the wildest, most inhospitable regions of Saudi Arabia, the Rub al Khali, the Empty Quarter of the Arabian Peninsula, and Najran on the Yemen frontier."

"Truth is not measured in mass appeal."
