Marinus van der Lubbe, 24, was beheaded after being convicted of setting fire to the Reichstag, an event Hitler used as a pretext to suspend civil liberties and establish a dictatorship..."

Van der Lubbe, a not so bright Dutch bricklayer. Was caught inside the burning building. Most historians believe he was involved. The question remains if it was a communist conspiracy. Which the Nazis believed. Or if he acted alone.
Better Late Than Never
I'm hoping that some day in the future Lee Harvey Oswald, Sirhan Sirhan and Osama Bin Laden will be given the pardon that they PROBABLY deserve. OK, fine, maybe they were a small piece in a big puzzle, but I'm convinced that the above three are patsies and NOT the real perpetrators.
These cases are in some respcts similar to the Van der Lubbe case. Everybody knows all three cases were covered up afterwards.

Where would you expect to find a patsy, fall-guy, or scapegoat?
Of course the poor guy was "found" at the scene of the false-flag! Also, the weak-minded make good patsies, because when caught, they can't reveal much about the real plot.

Because they didn't have a majority and had major plans, the Nazis needed the threat in a big way and a spectacular event. Just their own words imply that they made VanDerLubbe a patsy, just as the Neo-cons have Bin Laden. yes the patsies MAY be involved in some way, or at least think they are involved in some way, but ultimately they are assets.
The combination of Nazi references to terrorism and lies as very useful tools in totalitarian governance make you go "hmmm" about the Dutch Communist's role in firing up the Reichstag. Looks like they took a page out of the Gunpowder Plot. And called on history's wealth of DupesRUs.
Then when they did stuff like Operation Himmler and shooting dressed up convicts at Gleiwitz to launch War with Poland on a "Defensive" basis, there's just too much resonance and evidence that these guys weren't waiting around for communists to scare the bejeesus out of Parliament.
But that's just a bit of suggestive evidence plus my anti-chertoffian gut talking.
