Oscar-winning Marion Cotillard was facing embarrasment with her new American public last night after it emerged that she doubted the official account of the September 11 attacks.

Read the French transcript of Marion Cotillard's interview
The 32-year-old French star has swept this year’s best actress awards, also receiving a Bafta, Golden Globe and a César for her performance as singer Edith Piaf in La Vie en Rose.

Marion Cotillard questioned the September 11th attacks and the moon landings
Miss Cotillard, who earned under £1 million in 2007, could expect her Oscar success to significantly increase her earning power. She is due to start filming Public Enemies with Johnny Depp.

But the actress faces a potential backlash in the US over comments she made in an interview in France. Footage which surfaced on the internet showed her questioning the New York terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, and the 1969 moon landing.

"I think we’re lied to about a number of things," she said, singling out September 11.

Referring to the two passenger jets flown into the World Trade Centre, Miss Cotillard said: "We see other towers of the same kind being hit by planes, are they burned? There was a tower, I believe it was in Spain, which burned for 24 hours.

It never collapsed. None of these towers collapsed. And there [New York], in a few minutes, the whole thing collapsed."

Miss Cotillard suggested that the towers, planned in the early 1960s, were an outdated "money sucker" which would have cost so much to modernise that it was easier to destroy them.

advertisementTurning to America’s space programme, she said: "Did a man really walk on the moon? I saw plenty of documentaries on it, and I really wondered. And in any case I don’t believe all they tell me, that’s for sure."

Miss Cotillard, who was born and brought up in Paris, made the comments on Paris Première – Paris Dernière (Paris First – Paris Last), a programme first broadcast a year ago.

They were largely ignored at the time, but appeared yesterday on a French website. Miss Cotillard’s film career began in Luc Besson’s 1998 film Taxi. She is an environmental activist, who once worked as a spokeswoman for Greenpeace.

News of Miss Cotillard’s comments comes at a time when Franco-American relations appear to be thawing, following Paris’s refusal to support the US-led invasion of Iraq in 2003.

President Nicolas Sarkozy insists that he is pro-American, supporting so-called Anglo-Saxon economic reforms and going on holiday to America.

C'est bien !!!

Good for her !
Unfortunately Hollywood is still happily chewing Freedom Fries.

YESSSSSS!!

And the starfucking continues. Hollywood is with us. Woooohooo. We're gonna get em' with starpower.

Stop the Presses !!!

I heard that Carrot Top and Mr. T, along with David Hasselhoff ALL THINK that building 7 "fell kinda funny". I can smell victory within our reach. Someone tell Ryan Seacrest to get on it, burn the midnight oil bloggers, we got work to do. And someone call Patriotsfor911truth, we gotta get this front page STAT!!!!!

Uh oh: America may just have to nuke France

Why "facing embarrasment" (sic)? Is she saying she did something wrong?

Or is that just what this reporter would have the rest of us believe?

I'm unfamiliar with the subject of moon landing denial, but on the surface it sounds kooky. Too bad she has to be associated with that and 9/11 truth. I see the reporter was more than happy to link them for us, and also friendly relations between the U.S. and France. The sly insinuation is that Europeans shouldn't look at the truth behind 9/11 for fear of endangering international relations. (Maybe the president will kidnap and torture such misbehaving Europeans?)

Also note the insinuation that 9/11 is anti-American, confusing the American people with their government.

And is the world really supposed to give a s--t that Sarkozy supports "Anglo-Saxon economic reforms" (grab onto your wallets, boys and girls) and "going on holiday to America" (there must be a God, obviously)? Apparently we're all retarded, and should be taking our cues from the Project Mockingbird media.

Just like I always say . . .

"you're either with us, or you're with the terrorists"

she is with us

The evidence is what counts

Good points made!

Who needs enemies if you have "friends" like this gal.
The sad fact appears that these fake-truthers are reported on in the media only if they state their beliefs in combination with nut sauce like belief in UFOs, doubt in the moon landings, etc.

It makes me really mad.

Not believing the moon landing?, WTF!

Not believing the Moon landing?, WTF!
Is this for real or what? This hurts the 911 truth movement!
I'm researching this on my time to find out if she is a liability or an asset. The "public relations" story was probably "floated" about her not believing the the moon landing to give discreditability to the 911 truth movement. The 911 truth movement does not need distractions injected into the mainstream media to dilute or invalidate it. Some people will take this as grouping the "911 truth movement" with the "moon landing not happened" nuts!
We need to separate ourselves from "conspiracy nuts", so we can get a foothold into the conscious of others (America) and open them up to the realities of "whats going on"!

I'm not afraid to be a NUT

Why are we so afraid to be wrong? I grew up being so proud of the moon landings, but now I've become so distrustful of this US government I've come to the point where I can't beleive anything they've told for the past 40 years. I want badly to believe we went to the moon, but to believe it I'll need more proof than some old Cronkite news footage and government supplied photos. I hope that China makes it to the moon and proves that we were there, but until that happens I'll not put any faith in it.

I'm not afraid to be called a nut over this. I've alread lived through that once with 911 and on that front I know I'm right.

Sometimes you feel like a NUT, sometimes you don't....

I have to second the above statement! I fall into the distrustful column as well.

In the past, I accepted a great deal at face value but those days are gone, forever. If you believe everything the MSM relates, then you must believe the FEMA camps with a capacity reputed in the millions is only for the illegal aliens or for a catastrophic emergency? It may well be the latter, but then I tend to think, our government is not waiting around for the emergency, they want to help it along!

Moon landing issues have been around for some time. Here's a good primer on Google Video:

Did We Really Land On the Moon?

Sadly, you should be skeptical of the U.S. government and....
...don't believe them!

Moon landing denial part of

Moon landing denial part of disinformation along with holocaust deniers, and TV fakery, JFK conspiracy, and others. It's just another way used to marginalize the dialog from any real debate of the "official"ly bogus story.

JFK murder was clearly an inside job. I would not put JFK in

the same catagory as holocaust deniers, tv fakery, & questionable moon landings.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Consider mass emailing truth messages. More info here: http://www.911blogger.com/node/13321

JFK was absolutely an inside

JFK was absolutely an inside job, but all I'm saying is that debunkers will refer to it as some sort of supporting evidence to refute 9/11 as an inside job. Though I believe that showing a pattern throughout history supports the 9/11 Truth Movement http://www.911truthpedia.org/wiki/False_flag

Keep an open mind

I do believe we landed on the moon but that doesn't mean that one or two of the missions weren't faked. I have seen the videos and they do look suspicious . . . . but I can't evaluate the videos so in my mind its just a question mark that I wish would be investigated.

I do agree that the reason this is making headlines is because they can include the moon landing stuff..

At this stage of the game, this is very good publicity. Anything "official" is looking suspect.

Huffpo part of the problem

I just made an entry on my blog re what happened when I tried to post a comment to this story on huffpo.

Basically - no 9/11 stuff on huffpo and, if they finger you, you out.

I'm just glad it's getting out there....

... people--even celebs--question the events of 9/11?

Yes, Franco-American relations are better with the reputed NWO puppet Sarkozy in office! Sarkozy is another member of the sick elite:

Sarkozy on pedophilia

...don't believe them!

Moon Landing comment...

"Did a man really walk on the moon? I saw plenty of documentaries on it, and I really wondered. And in any case I don’t believe all they tell me, that’s for sure."

This statement looks as though it was in response to a question. Meaning she's not the one that brought it up.

Parlez vous Français?

Below I've pasted the text of that interview from the link -- which is in French, unfortunately for me a language I don't know. I assume Jon Gold translated the bit above himself.

What I'm interested in is: Is that all that Cotillard had to say about the moon landings? And what exactly was the question that de Moulins, the interviewer, asked Cotillard? Were there any other moon landing questions or remarks that de Moulins asked? Is there any indication of how it came to be that de Moulins came to ask Cotillard about the moon landings, or, for that matter, 9/11?

I think this is fascinating, because the bit Gold apparently translated suggests that the interviewer was just fishing around for Cotillard to say something that could easily be sensationalized in the media. But, unable to read the whole text of the interview, I can't conclude that with any confidence.

Would any French-fluent reader here care to help out? (The text is fairly short.)

Out of proportion

Boy, if I knew that you guys would be so demanding, I would have never publicly admitted to thinking 9/11 was an inside job here at Yale. It seems as if you guys demand your own brand of conformity. I don't think everything is as rigid as some of you guys see it. Let's support the people who do decide to join our cause. I understand the fear some of you have of people making wild generalizations, but really, it's not that bad. The truth is getting out. 15-25 year olds(the kind of people who would listen to a celebrity) are generally open-minded.

translation

Here is my translation of this. As I mentionned in another post, this doesn't make much sense, so translating it is a risky business (+ please excuse the imperfect English). Anyway here's my go:

Xavier de Moulins asks what she thinks about the theory that [French actor] Coluche’s death was not an accident.
[note about this : when this interview came out, a controversial novel had just been issued on this topic.]

Marion Cotillard: I tend to be more often on the side of the “conspiracy plot” vision of things.

Xavier de Moulins: a little paranoid ?

Cotillard: It’s not paranoia, no it isn’t, because I think we're lied to about a number of things: Coluche, 9/11. You can see all these videos of 9/11 on the internet, about the conspiracy plot. It’s fascinating, it’s even addictive.

de Moulins: About 9/11 for instance, what was it that disturbed you, concretely?

Cotillard: You’re being shown other towers of the same kind being hit by planes, and they burn. There was a tower, I believe it was in Spain, which burned for 24 hours.

de Moulins: Before collapsing?

Cotillard: It never collapsed. None of these towers collapse. And there, in a few minutes, the thing collapses. And then, it could be discussed widely… because they were full of gold the 9/11 towers. They were a money sucker, because they were achieved, I believe, in 1973, and to recable all of this, to update it and bring it to the technology era and all, it was much more expensive to have this work done than to destroy them.

[According to your original post source, it seems that her speech has been cut at editing phase to go straight to the conclusion]

Did a man really walk on the moon? I saw plenty of documentaries on it, and that’s one I really wonder about. And in any case I don't believe all they tell me, that's for sure.

Merci

Merci beaucoup!

A mountain out of a molehill

Indeed, this just confirms my previously noted hunch: Cotillard had next to nothing to say about the moon landings. She just made what appears to be a jest about the untrustworthiness of government (and by implication its servant media).

All it took was one little thing like this for Project Mockingbird plants in the MSM to paint Cotillard as a kook, and by implication all 9/11 truthers. This, combined with dark hints that such talk by a celebrities may make them unemployable, is engineered to quell dissent of this sort where it has a chance of reaching the greater masses beyond those who inhabit the Internet.

Maybe Marion Cotillard saw this

... on her way to the red carpet, and was so moved to speak her mind:

Photobucket

Bravo! Let's give her another round of applause!
(EDIT: It appears she made the comments one year ago, but I still hope she saw the sign.)

If you're not outraged, you're not paying attention.

That's a good photo Randy.

Do you have anymore?

I tried accessing your album but it says it is private at this location: http://s195.photobucket.com/albums/z178/Randyradio/?action=guestlogin

Can you post or link to more images of this protest?

Thanks.

9/11 Truth ends the 9/11 Wars

Update 3/3/08

Unfortunately, she's backing away from her comments:
Marion Cotillard U-turns on 9/11 conspiracy
"But, faced with losing millions as the notoriously patriotic Hollywood film industry reacted against her vitriol, Cotillard claimed there had been a misunderstanding.
Her Paris-based lawyer Vincent Tolesano said: "Marion never intended to contest nor question the attacks of September 11, 2001, and regrets the way old remarks have been taken out of context."

That hasn't stopped Fox News from smearing her this morning.
See "Career Suicide?" video on their website
Mike Straka (FoxNews.com VP): "She's an actress. She deals in fantasy for a living. So of course she's taken by these fantastical rumors on the Internet....These YouTube videos--these documentaries, so-called--are actually done very well.... You can actually believe what they say because they do them so well. But it's all BS."

They asked for comments from viewers. Write to friends@foxnews.com

U-turn?

This so-called retracton is pretty vague. No one questions whether we were attacked on 9/11. That's a fact we all agree on.

Twisting the story

I noticed something in the comments posted under the original article at the Daily Mail. A significant number of responders mocked her by saying things like "people really died", or "there really is a hole in the ground". I couldn't understand why they were saying this, since she did not deny that the towers were brought down; she was only questioning whether it was due to fire or to someone helping it along. I thought this was quite clear, since she mentioned the asbestos problem that Silverstein inherited. But obviously, the readers assumed that she was saying that the destruction didn't take place. Even the hologram/cartoon plane advocates don't deny that something took the buildings down.

It just shows you how easy it is to sway opinion with a deceptive headline like "9/11 Attacks Made Up", and some selective quoting.

Weapons of Mass Destruction

The suspension of disbelief is fading in body politic.

The lies are piling up to the sky.

A bit of context from France

Just a few words of context I would like to add:
- When she talked on that show, she wasn't very famous
- Like many actresses, she has little education. In addition, she is not smart. Many more of her interviews demonstrate this in my opinion. This is not a judgment related to what happened at 9/11, but a judgment that I make about her brains. Talented possibly. Culture: some but not much. Smart, no.
- the TV show in itself specializes in the controversial and "dirty"; the host is a witty character who often traps people. The show itself would probably be very shocking to most Americans... and most French as well (I like it, but my dad is outraged). Typically on that show, she would probably have had a drink or 2 when he caught her.

generally you’d have trouble making much sense of what she says here: the whole discussion is about conspiracies. As usual in this show, it’s edited - but not as an interview, as it’s supposed to make the audience feel that it’s an informal chat that they’re having themselves with the interviewed (around a drink etc.). Anyway it’s edited: you do not get all she said here.

All this is not meant as an excuse nor a condemnation – I simply want to show how silly she is: Don't give interviews on this topic without preparation (maybe even don't give interviews on this topic at all...! after all she’s just a French actress, not some politician). Generally, probably also don't give interviews to that man unless you're really smart and prepared.

Finally I find it relevant that some official apology comes, as I am sure that this will have hurt many people.

This may hurt the 9/11 Truth

This may hurt the 9/11 Truth movement, but will help the Apollo Truth movement.

Doubt it hurts

I tend to doubt it hurts the truth movement since most people see her favorably in that dress, holding her award, "a winner", and no matter how much the media attacks her, the majority of the people will identify and be attracted to her as a beautiful star, not some kind of nutcase or person to be ashamed of. I think that will override the efforts by the media. Just a guess . . .
