Comments on Mukasey's ‘Not Every Wrong, Or . . . Every Violation of the Law, is a Crime’

The story itself is so predictable it's hardly worth reading, but the comments are very satisfying. Realize too, this is the Wall Street Journal Law Blog . . . enjoy.

|Mukasey: ‘Not Every Wrong, Or . . . Every Violation of the Law, is a Crime’]]

Posted by Ashby Jones
Mukasey said today that neither Monica Goodling nor Kyle Sampson (nor anyone else, it seems), will face prosecution for considering improper political considerations in their hiring of judges and lawyers. (Click here and here for earlier posts on the topic.) “Not every wrong, or even every violation of the law, is a crime,” he said. “In this instance, the two joint reports found only violations of the civil service laws.”
etc.

So the so-called most powerful attorney in the US Government is telling people that “not every violation of law is a crime.”

What a fine standard to set for the Justice Department. I’m sure with those kinds of principled mantras, there must be a lot of integrity in the DOJ.

Mr. Mukasey, you are a joke. You are nothing but a mouthpiece for Bush and Cheney and you are no better than your predecessor. True, you didn’t pull the trigger, but you are driving the getaway car and you are burying the body. Waterboarding is not torture? Oh wait, you didn’t answer that question because you have no cojones. The DOJ was completely infected with corrupt politics and your response is “not every violation of the law is a crime?” Are you kidding me, sir?

You are a joke of an Attorney General and nobody respects you. I hope you know that when you go to bed at night. Thanks for looking out for us citizens. Now, excuse me while I go break the law (but I’ll make sure it’s not a crime.).

funny how Muskasey makes comments like that when protecting Bush cronies in DOJ; but cue up the perp walks for those DOJ seeks to make examples of in the current mortgage crisis

At least the DOJ’s hiring practices will live in infamy on t-shirts and tote bags

Eliot Spitzer will be very happy to hear this from the USAG.

“There was a failure of supervision by senior officials in the department…”

Yes, and who WOULD that “senior official” have been, huh? Not the AG, because the AG doesn’t handle those kind of matters IT WOULD HAVE THE DEPUTY AG-PAUL MCNULTY, WHOSE CHIEF OF STAFF, ELSTON HAS BEEN IMPLICATED IN THE HIRING REPORT, AND PARTICULARLY WILL FIGURE STRONGLY IN THE US ATTY. FIRINGS REPORT, AS WILL PAUL MCNULTY, AND HIS DISHONEST TESTIMONY BEFORE CONGRESS-PAUL MCNULTY, WHO WAS EVER UNFIT TO HOLD ANY OFFICE IN THE DEPT. OF JUSTICE AND HIS LEGACY OF AIDES AND DISHONEST, DISCEPTIVE, IGNORANT ABOUT THE LAW ACTIONS VERY UNFORTUNATELY, SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES-INDEED, SHOUT FOR THEMSELVES!

” I think that Michael is doing one hell of a job over at DOJ these days…”
Comment by George W. Bush - August 12, 2008 at 1:52 pm

p.s. AG Mukasey is also 100% correct when he says “not every violation of a law is a crime”- only an idiot, untrained in the law, would think otherwise.

Muskasey is a disgrace. Schumer recommended this guy and got played by the White House. Hopefully, there will be some revenge.

Can I try that excuse

if I ever get in trouble with the police?

But officer, just because it's illegal to smoke pot, doesn't mean it's a crime.

Go ahead . . . and let me
