Opportunity Cost
If you took the creative/brain power at MIT that is devoted to building machines that facilitate mass murder and redirected it towards renewable energy, then at the end of the day we would have cheap clean electricity rather than being hated by world and marked for retribution.

What would happen to the monopoly men though if everyone was energy independent using clean and efficient sources? What would happen to their chokehold? Can't have the human race advance at the expense of the ultra selfish, heaven forbid.
