Obama Begins Rollback of Bush-Era Secrecy

Keeping true to his promise of transparency [1], President Barack Obama issued an order today taking the first step toward lifting the veil of secrecy that had shrouded government information for the last eight years.

According to a White House statement:

"In The Presidential Memorandum on Transparency and Open Government (pdf [2]), and the Presidential Memorandum on the Freedom of Information Act (pdf [3]), the President instructs all members of his administration to operate under principles of openness, transparency and of engaging citizens with their government. To implement these principles and make them concrete, the Memorandum on Transparency instructs three senior officials to produce an Open Government Directive within 120 days directing specific actions to implement the principles in the Memorandum. And the Memorandum on FOIA instructs the Attorney General to in that same time period issue new guidelines to the government implementing those same principles of openness and transparency in the FOIA context."

Government-transparency advocates had hoped for such a decree. They have long decried restrictions on information set off by the October 2001 memo [4] issued by Attorney General John Ashcroft telling federal agencies that his office would support their decisions to withhold information. Ashcroft’s memo stated:

"When you carefully consider FOIA requests and decide to withhold records, in whole or in part, you can be assured that the Department of Justice will defend your decisions."

Ashcroft’s memo reversed the memo on FOIA issued in 1993 by Attorney General Janet Reno [5].

FOIA Requests

We need to test this new administrations commitment to transparency.
I'd like to see the M3 monetary number start being posted again.
I'd like to see The Federal Reserve System receive more scrutiny.
I'd like to see the Pentagon tapes released and the release of
The Church Committee papers. We can only hope.

I'm sure Aiden will be happy to have a new system in place regarding these requests.

Hope more journalists find success as well.

DEMAND THE 28 REDACTED PAGES

of the Joint Inquiry. Force Obama to either spill the beans on "foreign government involvement" in 9/11, or join Bush in that treasonous activity. I would bet that Obama would prefer to keep a lid on 9/11, judging by his actions to date.

That said, we can pressure the Justice Department to have another look at Bush's treason by flooding them with credible complaints...

URGENT ACTION NEEDED: CONTACT THE OBAMA WHITE HOUSE AND JUSTICE DEPARTMENT AND NOTIFY THEM OF BUSH'S TREASON RELATED TO THE 9/11 ATTACKS (SAMPLE)

Spill the beans

If Obama spills the beans on 9/11 then and only then will I trust this man. Everyone in the government knows 9/11 was an inside job, including Obama. Trouble is he is just a puppet of the NWO boys. It will never happen. I hate to say it but 9/11 will end up just like 11/22/63. Pray I am wrong.

I agree-- and also pray you're wrong

MrEguy

if there was a snowball's chance in hell of him doing that...

They wouldn't have installed him in the White House.

Demand supporting data for NIST "investigation"

I'd like to see an FOIA to release all of NIST' supporting data they used for their inputs to make their computer models and simulations. All of that should be released so their findings can be independently verified. What videos they used, calculations, witness statements, all of it. We'll watch their fire theories burn out like a match.

Peace all

"I spent 33 years and 4 months in active service as a member of our country's most agile military force--the Marine Corps. I served in all commissioned ranks from second lieutenant to Major General. And during that period I spent most of my time being a high-class muscle man for Big Business, for Wall Street and for the bankers. In short, I was a racketeer for capitalism. I suspected I was part of a racket all the time. Now I am sure of it. Like all members of the military profession I never had an original thought until I left the service."

Speaking of Marines...

Last weekend at a Martin Luther King parade we offered DVDs to a group of Marines who accepted them without hesitation.
