Slate: "Heated Controversy: Do firefighters believe 9/11 conspiracy theories?"

(Via - )

By Christopher Beam - April 8, 2009

In the new season of the FX drama Rescue Me, firefighter Franco Rivera espouses the belief that 9/11 was "an inside job." According to a Sunday New York Times article, the show's writers added this assertion because actor Daniel Sunjata is a "truther"; but the real firefighters on set—who work as script advisers—were offended by his allegations. This got the Explainer wondering: Do any firefighters believe in 9/11 conspiracy theories?

Yes. There's no evidence that firefighters buy into 9/11 conspiracy theories at higher rates than the rest of the population. (A 2007 Zogby poll found that 26 percent of Americans believe the government "let it happen." A 2006 Scripps-Howard poll found it was more than a third.) But some firemen do believe the government was behind 9/11 and use their status as first responders to draw attention to their statements.

Do these people deserve to know how and why their loved ones were murdered? Do we deserve to know how and why 9/11 happened?

Can you make this so it can be embedded?

Bill Manning is in the Dallas area...

A few months following 9/11/01, Bill Manning the editor of FIRE ENGINEERING wrote "A Call to Action".
“…Fire Engineering Magazine has good reason to believe that the "official investigation" blessed by FEMA and run by the American Society of Civil Engineers is a half-baked farce that may already have been commandeered by political forces whose primary interests, to put it mildly, lie far afield of full disclosure… --no one is checking the evidence for anything.”

Persistant Activsim Persuaded Significant Person

The persistance of ordinary activists apparently persuaded Mr. Sunjata, who is now bringing some overdue attention to our views.

A return on an investment.

He ignores the number of Architects and Engineers for 9/11 Truth, and the entire website of

He also doesn't consider why many people, especially police officers, may be hesitant to forward their skepticism. We're supposed to believe that skepticism would be voiced if it existed.

Overall, I think this Slate piece is good for the movement. Many people who read it will click through to the various Truth sites.

I thought the name was familiar. Alex Beam of the Globe trashed the 9/11 Truth Movement.

First they ignore you.

First they ignore you. (been there, done that)

Then they ridicule you. (The real purpose behind the MSM's attention to 9/11 Truth. Don't be fooled.)

Then you win. (Yay)

Guys, check out some of the comments on the slate site. As far as "psychological comfort," I actually would *rather* believe that these doubters are ALL paid shills. That would make sense in terms of the logical fallacies they use to get around inconvenient facts. What really gets to me is that probably at least 60% of those people are actually just ordinary citizens, who find "inside job" to be so painful/preposterous, that they will grasp onto ANY red herring in order to cling to their position. It's frustrating enough to contribute to the "9/11 truth burnout" syndrome articulated recently by Jules.

The arguments against the truth are not very sophisticated

at Slate.

I've been countering them for the last few days and these are clearly not the "A" team, most, if not all, are probably people that are in denial and have done little research.

I have run across more than one person that leans on the "why didn't they frame Iraqis" illogic, which I've always found amusing (but it does require a certain level of knowledge and sophistication to understand why the patsies were primarily Saudis).

I'm not sure how much 9/11 truth has been seen on Slate, so I decided to maintain a strong but civil presence there in the hopes of swinging the few open minded readers who drop by toward rationality, as I have at Alternet for the past two years (where there is a new straw spewing nemesis).

I hope that you and yours are well.

The truth shall set us free. Love is the only way forward.

Don't worry about the deniers

I don't think it really matters now how many more of the rank and file we manage to convince. Years ago we already had 16% who "get it" about controlled demolition and about half who believed some form of "let it happen." Even THAT's treason and accessory to 2900 murders!

The task before us now is to convince the professionals who are in a position to DO something about it -- BESIDES telling others -- something that will put the perps' liberty at risk. That means engineers (who are highly placed and respected in our society), district attorneys, private lawyers, law enforcement, etc. And obviously it has to include military people -- so they don't mindlessly obey the illegal orders that might be coming to suppress both 9/11 activists and the hungry masses who got no bailout, only a pink slip.

We need a Police officers

for 9.11 truth

Their leader (Bernie Kerik) was a super crook.

Hope there's some brave, intelligent, honorable men & women out there that will really serve & protect, the people.
