A firefighter and two cops who worked at Ground Zero in the days and weeks after Sept. 11 have died of cancer in the past five days, the Daily News has learned.
Family members and advocates are blaming their deaths on toxins released into the air after the twin towers collapsed - and they're urging Congress to act on a bill that would help pay for their medical care.
"Everybody is denying that this stuff is connected to 9/11, but it is," said Stephen Grossman, whose son Robert died of cancer on Friday at the age of 44.
Robert Grossman was a police officer in Harlem who worked at Ground Zero for several weeks after Sept. 11.
"He never once said he was sorry he went down there," Grossman said. "None of them walked away even though they all knew it was really dangerous."
The day after Grossman passed away, Firefighter Richard Mannetta, 44, died of cancer. And last Wednesday, 37-year-old Police Officer Cory Diaz died of cancer.
Firefighter John McNamara, 44, died of cancer last month.
"Unfortunately, it's just going to happen more and more," Stephen Grossman said. "I hope next week there isn't four."
Grossman said even though his son lost his battle, there are still many more first responders who are sick.
"This country just says, 'That's fine. We'll just wait another 15 to 20 years and you'll all be dead and we'll all be sorry,'" he said. "This country is better than that."
The James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act - named after an NYPD detective who died from his post-9/11 ailments - is still sitting in Congress, and Grossman and others are urging lawmakers to act now.
"These three deaths are proof that we need this bill passed today - not a year from now," said John Feal, founder of the FealGood Foundation.
The bill would provide $10 billion for medical care for hundreds of first responders who have since become ill. But doctors haven't directly linked these illnesses to the World Trade Center.
"The facts are indisputable," said Kenny Specht, 40, a firefighter who worked for the NYPD on Sept. 11 and was diagnosed with thyroid cancer three years ago. "This week alone proves what we've been saying is absolutely occurring."
Feal said the deaths of Grossman, Diaz and Mannetta in a span of five days is hard to ignore.
"How do you get this high cluster of serious cancer in just people that worked the pile? he said. "That isn't a coincidence."

How many first responders have since died of health issues?

"Through June 2009, 758 people who worked at the WTC site and have subsequently died have been identified. For each death identified, death certificates, medical records, autopsy results, employment information and WTC exposure information is collected. Confirmed causes of death are identified from death certificates, autopsies and/or medical records. To date, the program has confirmed 614 causes of death; confirmation of status as a WTC responder or volunteer may be pending for some of these people."
Do these people deserve to know how and why their loved ones were murdered? Do we deserve to know how and why 9/11 happened?
It's a sad day.
Do we know how many first responders who died from toxic exposure at the WTC were fireman and or policeman?

It's all very sad. It's striking that the media and the general public shows no real concern about the obvious and acknowledged toxicity at GZ and lower Manhattan, and Christine Whitman's lies. Nothing particularly conspiratorial and yet denial rules the day. On days like today the likelihood of convincing the public we need a new investigation seems so remote.
We need to work harder and SMARTER. It's all well and good that the 911TM works tirelessly to inform the public at large. But with every passing day and victim, we need to crank up the volume with those who are closest to these decisions and non-decisions. GET INFORMED and GET IN THEIR FACE.

Seems possible. I'm no doctor but clearly breathing in unexploded redgray chips of nanothermtitic stuff cannot bode well for your health. My point is this: since we can now prove somebody put thermite in the buildings, then the first responders should now have legal recourse against those who put it there and those who knew in advance it would be there. Perhaps the City of NY would enjoy defending a lawsuit since the major at the time had advanced knowledge of the event and still allowed first responders in. I wish Guliani had been hounded more by 9/11 truthers during his presidential run, seems like he should have been held more accountable regarding his foreknowledge ( but that's a topic for another thread).
I realize this legal reasoning is not foolproof, but it seems strong enough that it could be used as another salvo fired in this battle on the information front. Any lawsuit would garner publicity and the first responder plight is the only aspect of 9/11 that gets any regular mainstream media attention.
in the direction we are going..
realizing the scope of the deceit and betrayal, and the lies of the current administration.. as people begin to wake up, those still covering up and enforcing the propaganda of what they say happened on 9/11, they will end up gettng very desperate.. and we should anticipate another false flag to clamp down on our freedoms much harder.. and our ability to communicate.. This is why the hour is late.. This administration could transform its policies, or the unity with NYC CAN and others in NYC, especially, could create a critical mass awakening.. or like Massachusetts, the Pandemic Flu could result in its preparation for martial law..
and the financial mishandling for corrupt regimes could be motivating the continued lies, with threats at the end of a gun and a world war rippling through each of us..
All these possibilities exist with us.
Because death will confront each of us in any case.. I am thankful for those with good hearts and minds willing to use their valuable time to care for one another.. and for truth, what is, rather than hiding behind fear and delusions or avoidance of what science and justice is all about, and nature..
