SPI South Padre Island, Texas

This made the news in Japan

I just saw this on the news in Japan because it's officially the largest concrete building demolition ever.

Here's some context from the Houston Chronicle:

Record concrete building implosion set for Sunday at South Padre

The “leaning tower of South Padre” will be no more on Sunday if a scheduled demolition blasts off as planned.

The star-crossed 31-story Ocean Tower condominium, which never was completed because it began sinking into the barrier island's sands in 2008, will go down in an implosion around 9 a.m. Sunday, according to the city of South Padre Island, which said it will be the largest concrete building ever imploded.

Texas Highway 100 will be closed north and south of the site Sunday at 7 a.m. and will reopen once the Texas Department of Transportation gives the all-clear.

Controlled Demolition Inc., which brought down the Seattle Kingdome, the RCA Dome in Indianapolis and the Stardust Hotel in Las Vegas, will raze the structure.

A $125 million lawsuit over the failed project is pending. Construction stopped in the summer of 2008 after the building settled by more than a foot in some spots, cracking beams and columns.

The developer said it has removed as much material as possible to save for future use, including steel, concrete, windows, flooring and fixtures.
