9/11 conspiracy film: Creator has more loose than change

Given the proximity to Ground Zero, and the massive number of North Jersey emergency workers who risked their lives to help innocent victims, it will be interesting to see who attends next week's screening in Jersey City of a film that claims the Bush Administration was involved in the 9/11 attacks. Better that our bravest and finest simply let this indecent disrespect pass with as little public notice as possible.

Just because we defend freedom of speech in the U.S. doesn't mean we'll turn up the microphones for anyone -- not even actor/narrator Daniel "Franco" Sunjata, who is scheduled to attend.

It turns out Sunjata's character on the FX show "Rescue Me" isn't just a tool for creator Denis Leary's to add controversy to his successful program. Sunjata apparently believes in digging into deeply painful wounds to support an insensitive attempt at conspiracy theorizing.

"Loose Change 9/11: An American Coup" is another in a series of films by writer and director David Avery that includes what Avery claims is evidence that bombs may already have been planted in the towers before the attack.

Unfortunately, Sunjata's star power apparently draws enough interest to give this disrespectful exercise legs.

“The American people are still living in the aftermath of 9/11 and dealing with the repercussions,” Avery said. “With a new administration in office, information is being revealed almost on a daily basis. With this film it is our hope that answers will be revealed and questions will continue to be asked.”

The free event will include a question-and-answer session, which could be far more interesting than the film, depending on who else shows up for the 1 p.m. screening next Saturday at the Jersey City Library.
