One writer for Christian Web site MovieGuide claimed that the film held an "abhorrent, New Age, pagan, anti-capitalist worldview" and promoted goddess worship and, bluntly, the destruction of the human race.

Another conservative review describes the film as a liberal's "PC Revenge Fantasy" and implies that Cameron uses the human attack on an alien home world as a thinly disguised parallel to the 9/11 attack on the World Trade Center
