Are Americans a Broken People? Why We've Stopped Fighting Back Against the Forces of Oppression
Are Americans Too Broken by Corporate Power to Resist?
We need to take a look at what forces in American society are preventing people from being able to resist tyranny and dehumanization.
By Joan Brunwasser and Bruce E. Levine
March 23, 2010
Editor's Note: The following is the transcript of a recent interview with Bruce E. Levine by OpEd News' Joan Brunwasser. Levine is a clinical psychologist and author of Surviving America’s Depression Epidemic: How to Find Morale, Energy, and Community in a World Gone Crazy (Chelsea Green Publishing, 2007).
Joan Brunwasser: Back in December, you wrote 'Are Americans a Broken People? Why We've Stopped Fighting Back Against the Forces of Oppression.' Could you tell our readers about your theory?
Bruce E. Levine: There are times when human beings can become so broken that truths of how they are being victimized do not set them free. This is certainly the case for many victims of parental and spousal abuse. They are not helped by people explaining to them that they are being battered, exploited, uncared about and disrespected. They know it already and somebody pointing it out is not helpful.
So, it seems to me that it is also possible that human beings can become so broken by the abuse of the corporate elite that they also are no longer set free by truth.
While certainly the corporate-controlled mainstream media does not report many important truths, the majority of the American people do know enough to oppose the war in Afghanistan, but they do almost nothing in response to recent troop surges.
Polls show that the majority of Americans actually support single-payer, Medicare-for all plan and even a larger majority support a public option, yet there are relatively few people on the streets protesting the Democratic party betrayal of them.
And look at the 2000 U.S. "banana-republic" presidential election, in which Gore beat Bush by 500,000 votes and the Supreme Court stopped the Florida recount, and 51 million Gore voters were disenfranchised. Yes, there were small protest demonstrations against this election farce, but the numbers of protesters were so small that they empowered rather than concerned the future Bush administration, which went on to almost vaunt its regime of anti-democracy and piss on basic human rights. How humiliating for an entire nation. The shame many Americans feel, at some level, for allowing torture and other abuses is similar to the shame that spousal abuse victims feel -- and this routinely makes people feel even weaker. So, while not all Americans are broken, demoralized and feeling powerless, many are.
I wish the answer to restoring democracy was simply one of people getting more journalistic truths through a non-corporate media --and certainly I am all for that -- but I think that much more is required. We need to take a look at what forces in American society are breaking the American people from the ability to resist tyranny and dehumanization, and we must start considering what are the antidotes to this. At least that's what any psychologist or social scientist who gives a damn about genuine democracy should be doing.
JB: So, our feelings of powerlessness are rooted in modern life, exacerbated by present political realities. I'd like to point out another factor, which is what Paul Rogat Loeb refers to as our 'historic amnesia.' Historian and social activist Howard Zinn spent decades trying to offset that amnesia by providing an alternate history of our country, emphasizing various movements that have spanned decades (or generations) and eventually brought about change. He told stories of ordinary people doing extraordinary things and his book, A People's History of the United States has sold two million copies. So, it's obviously struck a chord. What do you think about the power of stories as an antidote to the ennui you describe?
BL: Stories of resistance to tyranny are great for the morale, so Howard Zinn did a great service by popularizing historical examples. These can be inspirational. A broken person and a broken people need morale. Inspirational models whom people can identify with can be energizing, and energy is exactly what demoralized people need.
It is important for people to know that, yes, there are historical examples of people rebelling against the elite. It is important, for example, for us to know that there once was something called the People's Party in the U.S. and a huge populist revolt that scared the hell out of the elite in the 1880s and 1890s.
But historical truths are not enough because sometimes people say, "That's just history, now is different, rebellion isn't possible." That's why not only historians need to report rebellions but journalists must report current resistance to the ruling elite corporations and their political lackeys, current resistance to this "corpocracy."
Bill Moyers has done a good job reporting on current resisters. I have seen a couple of examples on his recent shows. One is Steve Meachum and his group City Life, which has successfully kept people from being thrown out of their homes in foreclosure. Another example is pediatrician Margaret Flowers, a member of Physicians for a National Health Program, jailed for the cause of single-payer/Medicare for all.
JB: Good examples. I interviewed Dr. Flowers last May, shortly after she was released from jail.
BL: Historical examples and current examples of resistance against the corporacy can be inspiring, energizing and morale-boosting.
The elite know that to win the class war, just like winning any war, the goal is to crush the spirit of resistance of your opponent. So if you want to win the class war, you must care about the morale of your class.
Remember the "Tank Man" in China? While it is important for the people in China to know all the ways that they are being victimized, the problem is if they are completely terrified of their authoritarian government and too broken to resist, what's the good of knowing more and more about how they are being victimized? So, that one image of the guy getting out in front of the tank -- "the Tank Man" -- is hugely important.
I can tell you for sure that what I need is more models and fewer lectures. My sense is that is what many of us need.
JB: Your comment points to one of the big problems we Americans face. The corporate media is often part of the problem, rather than performing its historic 'watchdog' function. That's difficult to overcome, especially when so many exclusively read and listen to that right-wing echo chamber. Wasn't it Hitler's propaganda minister who said that all you have to do is repeat a lie 1,000 times and it becomes true? Those of us trying to practice responsible journalism online are fighting an uphill battle. Any recommendations?
BL: It's only going to make genuine journalists feel more powerless and broken if they focus on the ability of the corporate media to pound the airwaves with bullshit. The good news is that with all the money and power behind them, not all that many people take the corporate media seriously.
Of course, people don't get how impotent the corporate media is if they just watch the corporate media. But the polls show that, despite all their propaganda, the American people know that big business, the Democrats, the Republicans and the corporate media are all special-interest groups that work together for their own interest and not for the people.
I'm not going to worry about people like NBC's Brian Williams who spends a good part of his life appearing on every program possible to get his face and name out there. Williams makes it as clear as possible to anybody with half of a brain that what he's desperate for is publicity -- not truth.
So the corporate media now even recognizes how bored people are by their boring bullshit. However, instead of trying to excite people with truths, they are now trying to ape Jon Stewart. But their apes are not witty or funny and not reporting any truths, even the obvious ones that Stewart points out. ... So what are my recommendations to real journalists who actually give a damn about getting the truth out there and about having an impact?
Two things come immediately to mind. First, when you are preaching to the choir, when you are writing for a publication that is read by an audience that already has been radicalized one must think, "Is my piece going to simply depress them with one more truth of oppression and injustice? Or, is my piece going to stimulate some action in at least one reader, and hopefully more?"
I have written for publications such as Z Magazine, AlterNet, CounterPunch, Adbusters and The Ecologist, for readers who are already radicalized. I used to feel satisfied with informing readers about yet another industrial complex that I knew well, specifically, the psycho-pharmaceutical industrial complex. But now I think that's not enough. When one has an opportunity to write to people who are already aware of how they are being screwed by an oligarchy of industrial complexes, I believe it is one's responsibility to write in a way that galvanizes them to get off their asses and do something constructive.
Much of schooling teaches people that it is good enough to simply know the truth and care about injustices. But it's not enough to know and care if that concern is passive. Jonathan Kozol, the school critic, used the phrase "inert concern" to characterize what he was taught in his elitist schooling at a fancy prep school and later at Harvard. Kozol mocks "inert concern," and so do I.
Good journalism is going to energize people to take action. One way is, as we've already talked about, giving people inspiring models.
A second thing that journalists must do is to get creative in figuring out ways of expanding their audience rather than simply preaching to the choir. People who feel defeated, demoralized and broken want to be energized. This means it is not enough to report the truth -- one needs to write in a way that is fun to read. Molly Ivins got it. Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert get it. Gore Vidal has always gotten it.
Michael Pollan is an interesting example of somebody who has been able to expand the audience of people who get it about the food industry. I remember reading Pollan when he was a relative unknown writing for Harper's about drug hypocrisy issues -- he was right on the money and damn near anarchistic. But Pollan is an entertaining guy who is fun to read and doesn't sound like some ideologue pushing counterpropaganda.
He's now going after the food-industrial complex. Pollan has been effective in making it quite mainstream to talk about some pretty radical stuff. I hear he is responsible for influencing Michelle Obama to have a vegetable garden. Now, having a vegetable garden and cooking your own food does not sound radical to people who get turned off by radicals, but there is no more radicalizing stuff than learning to become more self-reliant and independent of the food-industrial complex.
So, two solutions to your question involve expanding your audience and energizing people who already get it. If all journalists started to think about this and get creative, there would be a bunch more specific answers.
The real question for me is what can each of us do, at least each of us who gives a damn about genuine democracy and getting rid of the plutocracy we now have. What can journalists do? Psychologists? Teachers? Parents? Students? We need to try to think about this question strategically. Think about it creatively. We need to think about what can be energizing and fun and is thus sustainable.
JB: You're talking about advocacy journalism, aren't you?
BL: Let's take a look at this phrase "advocacy journalism." In reality, Brian Williams is advocating for the career of Brian Williams, and the New York Times is advocating for the New York Times. Neither is advocating all that much for the truth.
The Times would like to us to believe that it is not advocating any political ideology, but in reality, it's advocating for readers to take the entire institutional establishment seriously. Times writer Judith Miller took establishment sources seriously about WMD in Iraq, and this greased the wheels of the U.S. invasion of Iraq. The Times would have us believe that Miller and WMD were an anomaly. Not true.
When the Times reports that the Food and Drug Administration has approved a new drug, the Times almost never reports that the FDA did not do independent tests but trusted drug company data -- this is normal procedure. And the Times does not report in any drug approval story that there is a revolving door of employment between the FDA and drug companies -- this is the reality.
Advocating for the truth would mean reporting facts that question the credibility of institutions, especially ones such as the FDA with its history of getting it wrong so much of the time. The FDA example is only one of many. The New York Times is a major institution that benefits from the status quo being taken seriously. The Times keeps itself from being attacked by other major institutions by what the Times omits about these other major institutions.
Pretend neutrality and lies of omission insult the public. Genuine democracy needs people, including journalists, mixing it up honestly. So, journalists need to report the facts because they will not be taken seriously if they get the facts wrong. And journalists need to report facts that may be troubling for their position because that will gain a journalist even more credibility and power. But readers know that journalists are people who have a point of view, so journalists shouldn't pretend that they don't have one and then slant a story.
When New York Times apologists accuse Amy Goodman and "Democracy Now!" of advocacy journalism, I have to laugh. The Times is advocating taking the status quo and major institutions seriously, and "Democracy Now!" is advocating against that. The Times puts a lot of effort into not being transparent about its kind of advocacy, while "Democracy Now!" doesn't waste its time on such pretend efforts.
JB: Before we close, let's shift gears for a moment. Have you found that your clinical practice has changed over the last number of years, with patients feeling more overwhelmed and powerless than before?
BL: I see more powerlessness with teenagers and young adults now than I saw 20 years ago. Many extremely smart but nonacademic high school students who hate school have been told that they must go to college or they will never be able to make a living, and at the same time they know that increases in college tuition result in outrageous debt, and with increasingly crappy jobs out there, this debt will be difficult to pay off. And of course debt breaks people.
There remain young people who have not had their spirit of resistance against the corpocracy crushed out of them, and I ask them, "How many of your peers are aware of and rebelling against the reality that they are being turned into indentured servants and slaves?" They tell me practically none of their peers are resisting, at least constructively, as they feel too powerless to do anything but lots of alcohol, illegal and psychiatric prescription drugs to kill the pain of their hopelessness. I don't see a hell of lot of kids protesting about how they are getting screwed, and that tells me something.

Really Recommended. Helped me...
Both of the articles above are great. They really helped me clarify why many of my fellow neighbors aren't taking this issue on or are resisting the truth of our situation, although that's changing too. When Bruce talked about journalism, it reminded me of Alex Jones and how his style sometimes immobilizes you with his scary, wake-up tactics, and doom and gloom he focuses on. And at the end I was heartened when I thought of Robert Wanek at his school resisting this tyranny, Luke Rudkowski too. Anyway. This was important for me to understand more about what we are up against psychologically.

Restore America Plan
There is a lot more to this, but here is some insight into what is happening behind the scenes regardless of what the mainstream media is telling us. This is an update from my good friend in the truth movement (Eleda):
This email originated from Chris Summers. Provost Marshals are actually part of the military, in fact according to wikipedia, a Provost Marshal is in charge of the military police!!! As I said in my email yesterday, The Restore America Plan allegedly goes into effect Mon 03/29/10. What I didn't realize is Mon is when the governors, etal of all 50 states will be served the paperwork. Here is another person who says they will have 72 hours to comply. The email below explains much................if this is true, seems to me next week is a good time to start informing everyone possible about this, since apparently this will have an effect on life as we know it (in a good way as predicted by those in the know). Especially those faced with foreclosure or other credit issues should find out. Notice: email infers all the governors know this is coming, and states 3 governors are grumbling about it, The CA Governator, Gov of NY and Gov of FL..

RESTORE AMERICA PLAN update
3/28/2010 12:08 PM
From Sam Kennedy
Hello folks
Wednesday, I had the extreme pleasure, along with regan dwayne, of
signing an order to the men and women who occupy the office of
Governor of each of the incorporated States of the United States
Federal Corporation, and a second order to the armed forces of the
United States of America, restoring lawful governance of, by and for
the sovereign People. What a tremendous pleasure to finally be in
position to take back our country. The deed is done.
Yesterday, a day that will live in history, all such office holders
were served with a warrant arresting their bonds, thus the de facto
office of Governor has been re-absorbed into its de jure counterpart
as an operation of law, and the occupants thereof are operating under
the provisional de jure bond of the sovereign People. Most of the
governors have been alerted to expect service.
Also yesterday, the armed force were served notice of the return of
lawful sovereign (“civilian”) authority. And that the People have
assembled as fifty well-regulated militias and reinhabited de jure
grand juries in all American republics. As of Monday, the presumption
of authority by private corporate actors impersonating public
officials under color of law is pre-empted by lawful “civilian”
authority, effectively ending the era of illicit corporations posing
as legitimate governments. Finally, the children are free.
Upon delivery, all parties will have been informed that the sovereign
People have EXPRESSLY accepted their respective state constitutions
and the Constitution for the United States of America, circa 1787, as
BINDING CONTRACTS upon them. They will be under orders to end
state-sponsored terrorism against members of the sovereign People.
They will be required to provide sovereign ID and passports. The
governors have mere days to subscribe the new oath of office. They
have been assured that the People do not intend to trespass on the
rights of others to elect subject-class citizenship, thus ensuring a
peaceful and non-violent transition. Our military public servants
have been instructed to extend every reasonable effort to encourage
repentance and forgiveness.
In light of concerns by the members of the De jure Grand Juries, and
after discussions with some of the Elders, Tom assumed the role of
lead contact for the armed forces and I had the honor of assuming the
role of lead contact for the governors, Secretaries of State and
Attorneys general for all of the republics. These were natural
positions for both of us, and for which the Lord has groomed us with
the richness of our lives’ experiences.
Rest assured, that when I am contacted by our public servants, I will
undertake all necessary measures to ensure they comply with the
People’s orders AS I WROTE THEM, not some backroom political
perversion thereof, to cease the bogus prosecutions, provide sovereign
ID and passports (beginning with the jurors whose information I have
in my possession), adjust the crime databases to reflect sovereign
immunity for those jurors, and assist me in emptying the prisons of
political prisoners beginning with the families and friends of those
jurors, and those “convicted” of tax-related “crimes.” It will be my
highest duty to work closely with the Attorneys General to establish
the criteria for assembling the lists of political prisoners per the
orders. There will be no lawyerly dancing on these matters.
Folks, you have no idea the amount of work and devotion that was
expended on behalf of your freedom this week, from preparing the final
polished Declaration at this end, to regan’s soup-to-nuts handling of
the monumental task of uniform, timely, professional presentment.
While many still harbor fear for having signed the declaration of
freedom, I personally view this as the most important signature of my
life, fulfillment of prophesy. Had it been possible, I would have
handed the document to each and every actor personally, looked him in
the eyes and said, “Congratulations, welcome back to the brotherhood
of man. You have three days to take the oath of office.”
Einstein observed that all great revolutions began as a single thought
in the mind of an individual. He knew the capacity of men to manifest
the word of the Lord, especially in America, a land founded by men of
revolutionary spirit. This week the People, at the eleventh hour, on
the brink of world chaos and destruction, have expanded Louis
McFadden’s challenge into the last, best and only hope for freedom for
all the world’s children from economic genocide. All we did was weave
together the trail of great men of history, the cravings of the slaves
in their filthy huts as they hugged their children, the desire in each
of you to ensure your children are secure from the solicitations of
pagan money predators, into a shining tapestry of liberty to stand
until man no longer walks the earth. That is the importance of our
mission.
I invite America to join me this Sunday night for an important
discussion of events to come on TAKE NO PRISONERS on the Republic
Broadcasting Network (8 PM, Sunday, March 28). There is much
speculation about what to expect in the next few weeks, grand jury
duties, the Constitution, and Phase II. We will also be joined by a
very special guest.
In light of security breaches surrounding the Declaration, Phase II is
securely locked away until the day of presentment. However, I can
tell you that your first reading of it will be as shocking and
pleasurable as was the Declaration. TOP to bottom OVERHAUL - all
behind the scenes of course. I will have more to say on the
broadcast.
At the request of a number of jurors, grand jury procedure will
receive special attention during the broadcast. The amount of
perilous misinformation seems to be increasing daily such that jurors
are likely to find themselves in serious jeopardy if they don;t remain
true to the Plan, in my opinion as author of the Declaration. As many
of you understand better than some of your leaders, YOU DID NOT JOIN
THE GRAND JURIES TO BECOME LAWYERS AND CONSTITUTIONAL EXPERTS. That’s
the sort of chasing-your-tail diversion U.S. Inc. has been using
against you for years to distract you from the Lord and the enjoyment
of life. Aren't you tired of becoming jailhouse lawyers? Be very
careful about getting addicted at the expense of your families. Let
the law serve you for a change, as it was intended.
YOU DID NOT JOIN THE GUARDIANS TO LEARN CORPORATE STATUTES, RULES OF
EVIDENCE, GRAND JURY PROCEDURES and all the other false idols which
exist to block your remedy and divert you to worshipping earthly
kings.
The LAST place we would look for insight into a true grand jury is the
incorporated de facto bar association mafia counsel masquerading as a
grand jury for the purpose of stealing you blind. Why would we ever
wish to emulate those monstrosities?
WE DO NOT WISH TO EMULATE DE FACTO GRAND JURIES OR COUNTY WE DO NOT
WISH TO EMULATE DE FACTO GRAND JURIES OR COUNTY ASSEMBLIES. I will
discuss this topic in detail on the broadcast. Jurors will want to
listen carefully. It is my goal to ensure that every one of you
enjoys your remedy and also remains safe. THE KEY IS TO UNLEARN THE
BRAINWASHING, RATHER THAN RELEARN IT. That has always been our goal
from the day I put pen to paper.
JURORS MUST AVOID GETTING SEDUCED BY PROCESS AND BECOMING THE VERY
BEAST THEY HAVE GROWN TO DESPISE. While I can't possibly bring you up
to speed on our months of private negotiations and discussions, I
can tell you with certainty that the founding Elders did NOT intend to
create a permanent fourth branch of government. To think otherwise is
to not yet understand the Plan. The Declaration was written on two
levels. Now would be a good time to really give it a read from a
broader perspective.
Folks, the Constitution is but a tool to secure the allegiance of the
sleeping masses to the restoration of God’s law on this earth. Sadly,
hundreds of millions of people need such idols as the source of their
rights. You may wish to review the Jan 31, Feb 7, and Feb 14
broadcasts of TAKE NO PRISONERS for further insight into the
philosophy and rationale of the Plan.
________________
Finally, as you may have heard I have been invited by host and network
owner, John Stadtmiller, to appear as a guest Monday night on THE
NATIONAL INTEL REPORT on the Republic Broadcasting Network. I have
since been informed that we will be joined by Ralph Winterrowd,
another RBN radio host, who believes The Restore America Plan “has a
very odious smell of betrayal.” I look forward to meeting Ralph first
hand and entertaining his expressed belief that the people should take
their evidence to the “sitting (de facto) Grand Juries” so that Mom
and Pop can be awakened from their stupor and indict their public
officials. I invite everyone to tune in and call in as we debate
remedy through illicit corporations versus remedy through the
sovereign People, the latter already underway. And best of all, the
program is being held on G-Day, the very day that the sovereign People
arrest the bonds of the fifty de facto Governors and end the era of
corporate governance in favor of the de jure republic.

impoverished and ruined the people of these United States, has
bankrupted itself, and has practically bankrupted our Government.”
This most knowledgeable man on banking also explained in vivid detail
the method for recruiting the Federal Reserve to pay our debts as

national emergency…These proclamations give force to 470 provisions of
Federal law. These hundreds of statutes delegate to the President
extraordinary powers, ordinarily exercised by the Congress, which
affect the lives of American citizens in a host of all-encompassing
manners. This vast range of powers, taken together, confer enough
authority to rule the country without reference to normal
Constitutional processes. Under the powers delegated by these
statutes, the President may: seize property; organize and control the
means of production; seize commodities; assign military forces abroad;
institute martial law; seize and control all transportation and

maintained by Congress outside and independently of that instrument,
by exercising such powers as other nations of the earth are accustomed
to…a radical and mischievous change in our system of government will
result…We will, in that event, pass from the era of constitutional
liberty guarded and protected by a written constitution into an era of
legislative absolutism…It will be an evil day for American liberty if
the theory of a government outside the supreme law of the land finds
lodgment in our constitutional jurisprudence.” In other words, a
genuine de jure united States of America congress is always bound to
enact laws within the jurisdiction of the constitution. He held tyo
the obvious truth that congress does not exist, let alone have powers,
outside the constitution. Harlan said, "This nation is under the

Folks, most any of those topics can be a remedy for men and women who
treat them as acorns to be researched and developed as part of a
comprehensive program of spiritual growth and learning. The list was
compiled from broadcast summaries, so my apologies for the many other
topics not mentioned in the summaries which are not included in the
list, and for any errors or typos.
CAUTION: Please be aware of my tendency to create “technology” on the
fly as needed. Which means that some topics are seasoned and some are
fresh off the drawing board. So please be cautious in YOUR
decisions, and when handling emails that seek to use fear to suppress
the free flow of information that made all this information possible.
If we had heeded the call for quiet suffering instead of public
exchange of ideas, none of these topics would have materialized.
FULFORD: THE N.W.O.CABAL IS COLLAPSING; THE SIGNS ARE EVERYWHER
The following group contacted the Black Dragon Society promising the Federal Reserve Board and the Washington D.C. crime syndicates will soon lose power. They sent me an audio file but I got the message “this file cannot be opened at this domain.” However, I found the audio here:
http://www.rumormillnews.com/cgi-bin/forum.cgi?read=169644
Several people, including a direct envoy from the Chinese Politburo and a member of the British Royal family have told me a similar tale of imminent change. The gist of all their stories is that soon vast amounts of new government-controlled funding will become available and that the Federal Reserve Board and the Internal Revenue Service will be dismantled.
We have been disappointed before but there is enough information now available, even on the corporate propaganda media outlets, to make it clear we are reaching the end game.
Among the bits of evidence we find Japan, China and Russia not only not buying new Treasury bills but actively reducing their holdings. We also find the world’s central banks are no longer buying T-bills either.
Then we have China announcing they will have a trade deficit in March. That sounds like bad news for China but in fact is due to their increasing their imports of commodities from around the world by 80% year on year. This is part of their strategy to take down fiat dollars by refusing to buy anything but real stuff with their own hard-earned dollars.
Anybody with basic math skills can figure out, after looking at this chart from the St. Louis Federal Reserve Board:
http://research.stlouisfed.org/fred2/graph/?s[1][id]=AMBNS
that the only reason the US has not experienced hyper-inflation is because all those trillions of dollars the Feds have created since September 2008 are not being honored as valid currency by the rest of the world and even most of the US banking system.
On top of this you have over a dozen US states (and soon a lot more) suing the Federal Government claiming the Obama health-care law is un-constitutional. Most states have also now passed laws denouncing many D.C. power grabs as un-constitutional.
The British have also thrown down the gauntlet at D.C. by demanding that Bush era Vice-President Cheney, Secretary of State Rice and “Defense” Minister Rumsfeld all testify in front of a Parliamentary enquiry into the legality of the Iraq war.
Even the most brainwashed people out there will also notice the Euro and the European Union are falling apart. Basically, the hard working and frugal Germans and Nordic peoples are refusing to subsidize the Mediterranean countries. The “Greek” crisis is really the death knell for the Soviet style EU because the Mediterranean countries have no viable alternative to issuing their own currency. The Euro is going to end up as a German/Nordic successor to the Deutschemark.
Of course, it is not over until the fat lady sings and until we see the propaganda media organs shut down and the Washington D.C. criminals put in their place, we need to keep our powder dry and stay fully alert for any tricks or terror they may try to pull off.

actually rather ironic
these articles are from alternet, the mainstream alternative media ...
funny how alternet will publish articles like this that sound great and go to the heart of the problems we face while at the same time they continue to refuse to publish anything about 9/11 truth ... it sure seems strange to me, are they actually part of the problem here, part of the reason we're all so disillusioned and disempowered ... what hope is there when even the so-called alternative media is seemingly just as clueless, gullible and/or compromised as the rest of the corporate media ... how can we move beyond ignorance and powerlessness without first recognizing the true nature of the forces that keeps us in the dark ... for all the fancy words and rousing rhetoric you find on alternet, none of it does any good if it's couched in a world view that rejects, ignores or denies evidence of the craven cruelty and criminality of government.
Times and tactics are different...
Im with johnscriv. Something is up. Would this psych. journal come forward and clarify their position on 9/11? They seem to do a good job at emphasizing what sucks however not much on how to repair.
I dont know everything about Alex Jones. Research is informing me he is not who and what he claims. It appears Truth groups are separating themselves from him.
People have come out and informed he is straight up Jesuit Illuminati Bohemian Grove adjunctor. Sorry folks, I dont trust him.
Funny that
I don't trust you.
People indeed.
Research is informing you...
Research is informing you...that Alex Jones is...blah blah blah. Care to present your research and the evidence you have compiled that Alex is "straight up Jesuit Illuminati Bohemian Grove adjunctor"? I won't hold my breath waiting to see your evidence though since you probably don't have any. You know something I have seen a number of people attack AJ and I find most of those attacks to be baseless or driven by some agenda or ideology far afield from the truth. AJ is not perfect and I do not agree with him on everything but he is taking action, he is effective, he reaches millions, and most of the time he is right on the money. I have researched many of his most important claims and found them to be true. 9/11, false flag terror, Global Warming, Bilderbergers, federal reserve, etc. he is dead on accurate about. Until I see your "evidence" I am going to keep listening to AJ thank you.
Alex Jones and Bible literalist nonsense
If Alex Jones has such a brilliant open mind, why is he incapable of using that brilliant open mind to look critically at so many Evangelical Christian charlatans he has had on his show
There. I said it. The elephant in Alex Jones' studio. As long as Alex Jones is out there talking literalist Revelation and Armageddon nonsense with some of the nuttiest of evangelical Christian nutbags, he's not gonna get taken seriously by people in the center and left. His opinion is not going to be respected by anyone who has read enough of the Bible to have found out that eating shellfish and cheeseburgers makes someone just as damned as any Bible literalist claim Homosexuals are.
yeah but ...
he is funny ... I don't agree with most of AJ's grand synthesis, but I love his bombast, he really knows how to serve it up and I get a good laugh out of it ... it's kind of encouraging, enervating, he is a bit of a rabble rouser I s'pose, a demagogue of sorts, but I think he's mostly okay ... it takes all sorts, what's that saying ... "different strokes for different folks"
You should hear the open mic on his Internet feed
I don't listen to Alex Jones very much. He is a bit too much of a fear monger for me. Nonetheless, he is a valuable voice of dissent. If you listen to him on the Internet, you can hear the open mic during commercial breaks. He has lamented during that period about "all the religions nuts" he ends up having on his show. My guess is that Jones is using the Bible as a metaphor.
It does bother me that some ostensibly "fundamentalist Christians" appear to look at The Book of Revelation as a play-book for massive population culling.
If you want a leaderless leader without any fundamentalist hangups, try His Holiness, Sri Deek:
WARNING! bad language, and controversial opinions
You're correct Adam Ruff...
My apologies. I was only forwarding others comments. I wasnt attacking Mr. Jones, I was only informing I didn't trust him. I didn't cite the articles, I didn't know it would be a big issue.
Why I was docked a -3 for the non aggressive comment is alarming. I wasn't aware free speech was subjected to negative valuation.
I hereby forego my privelege to make comments on 911blogger.com. I also cancel my proffered $500 donation payable at end of May. Perhaps its best I simply read the website info. It continues to educate me for which I'm very grateful.
LeftWright, please delete my username and password. It wont be neccessary anymore.
Take care.
Best regards.
Don't take it personally.
"Why I was docked a -3 for the non aggressive comment is alarming. I wasn't aware free speech was subjected to negative valuation. "
With due respect I don't think you were docked anything. You were voted down by other bloggers who apparently disagreed with what you said or possibly how you said it. I wouldn't take it seriously. If you only want up votes, it's easy, don't say anything controversial; go with the flow. On the other hand if you express how you really feel be prepared to judged by your peers. It doesn't make you right or wrong, just means you have a different opinion which is a good thing in a healthy and reasonable debate.

Thanks Orangutan. The economic crisis will probably be the thing that pushes more people to action, unfortunately, the tea baggers and right wing hate groups will be part of this uprising. People are busy figuring out how to survive right now. The ominous signs of another downturn in the economy hover on the horizon as commercial loans are set to reset and joblessness and stagnant spending continue to cripple any recovery. We in the Truth Movement better find a way to align with the forces focusing on the deceit in the financial institutions that rule the world. If we don't, we will be swept away as more powerful realities occupy peoples time. Tell me, who here seriously believes that anybody will give a crap about what happened on 9-11 if they are trying to figure out how to survive the coming crises?
We ought to re-focus our efforts on expanding the examination of how deceit has become the modus operandi of the secret government. The truth about September 11 will unravel in the process.
Been busy guys, just had time to post this.

He means that he loves an inner air, an inner light in which freedom lives and in which a man can draw the breath of self-respect. ~Adlai Stevenson

Have Faith
Witnessing a "slow motion coup d'etat".
The powers-that-be have been studying this for decades and have been using the general public as a laboratory specimen. The public reaction to the start of the war in Iraq was a classic example: people (apart from core groups) became too disillusioned and tired, too busy working 2 and 3 jobs, too dumbed down and lied to by the consolidated corporate media, too brainwashed into believing that "supporting the troops is the same as supporting the war"... and arrived at a collective subconscious "decision" that 'protest was ineffective'. This was exactly what the architects of 9/11, the wars, the decimation of freedom and other state-sponsored oppression knew in advance. Mass psychological manipulation also played a big part in the Nazi war effort; the CIA followed suit.... after all, the acorn always lands close from the oak.
Actually, this looks like controlled opposition to me.

I don't see where we really need "advocacy journalism". What we need is legitimate journalism. Levine appears to discourage full understanding of what's really happening. He wants us to go out and make some noise rather than to inform ourselves and others about more details which might exposed the big picture.
Notice, he is not saying he needs more models describing the mechanisms of tyranny. He wants models of people tilting at windmills. Don't bother getting a pair of glasses so you can see what you're fighting.
I note that he never mentioned the War on Terror, 9/11, the PATRIOT act, etc. It all seems very slow pitch softball.
There are plenty of role models, the problem is that the MSM, such as Democracy Now!, ignores them. I'm banned from their website for talking about things such as the July 24th, 2001 privatization of the WTC and the political connections of the main players. My sources are their own statements and the official publications of the political organizations which they lead, or have led. It's not as if I was spinning yarns, or spreading rumors. I was stating easily verifiable facts, usually in the form of direct links to authoritative original sources.
Dare I even mention the case of David Irving who was questioning the 9/11/01 OCT as early as 9/17/01. Now, Irving was ostensibly not imprisoned for 400 days in solitary confinement because of his views regarding the terrorist attacks of 9/11/01. He was imprisoned for expressing his views on another matter. This did not happen in the US, but it does have bearing on the US MSM. Agree with him or not, it should be huge news that authors are imprisoned in ostensibly democratic Western nations closely allied to the US for expressing dissenting opinions.
If you want a case that directly involves the US Government, consider Germar Rudolf. Again, you might not agree with what he wrote, but that is not what is at issue. Rudolf was doing 9/11 research when he was deported to Germany in order to serve a prison sentence for authorship and publication. His deportation was in clear violation of US statute which says that a person in legitimate fear of political persecution should be granted asylum. It is foundational to the American form of government that people should not be imprisoned for the expression of dissenting views on political matters. Imprisonment to that end is unquestionably a form of political persecution. "This is an orange".
Why do I mention these highly controversial authors? Because they are models of people willing to say what they believe even in the face of sever consequences. Furthermore, these persecutions happened in nations closely allied to the US and which are typically considered "model democracies". A genuine journalistic community should be outraged at any incident of gross violations of the inalienable Right to free speech and publication. These people and others have been given harsh prison terms for authorship, with the blessing and sometimes the full complicity of the US Government.
Just as Paul Craig Roberts rightly points out that it is wrong for the US Government to assassinate US citizens (or anyone else) on the basis of mere suspicion or accusation of "terrorism", it is wrong for the US Government to aid and abet the active suppression of free speech. Where is the MSM outrage? On second thought, forget MSM outrage; where's the legitimate reporting of pertinent facts? Where is the so-called alternative media? "The Tank Man" is nothing without a camera and a medium of dissemination of the image. And the caption can have more impact on the message than the image which appeals to the emotions.
There is yet another reason I mention these controversial cases. There are influential people in the 9/11 Truth Movement who wish to actively exclude people for holding controversial opinions regarding matters of history or politics. The argument is that "big tent" policies allow in people who are intent on disrupting or discrediting the movement. Well, that is probably true if there is no effort to meaningfully challenge ideas such as death rays from outer space.
Greg Jenkins dispensed with that specific issue in an effective way by directly addressing it:
I have to question the wisdom of excluding people from the mainstream of the Truth Movement because they have expressed controversial opinions on sensitive issues. I know very well that some of those practicing such exclusion and censorship actually agree with the views of the people whom they attack. So the people are not being ostracized for holding incorrect, or intentionally disruptive views. They are been ostracized for holding views consistent with those of the gatekeepers, with the exception that the outcasts have been forthright about their beliefs.
Is this not exactly what we are told the MSM does to 9/11 Truth and the people wishing to report on it? To me, this seems like the core reason that we are unable to bring the perpetrators to justice and set the record of history straight. The MSM fails to report the truth out of a combination of allegiance to the perpetrators, ignorance of the facts, and fear of reprisal. The most common form of reprisal is career assassination. Just ask Paul Craig Roberts. IOW the "offender" is ostracized from the community.
Whatever happened to "You must be the change you wish to see in the world"?
Other role models which will not be as controversial on this site are Gary Web, Paul Wilcher, Danny Casolaro, Mike Ruppert, Daniel Hopsicker, Cynthia McKinney, Curt Weldon, Paul Craig Roberts, Hunter S. Thompson, Steven E. Jones, David Ray Griffin, Sibel Edmonds, Beverly Eckert, Richard Gage, etc., etc.
With respect to the question of Iraqi WMDs, it is not the case that the entire MSM promoted the deception.
Another point made by Levine which I reject is the idea that the failure of the American people to act is due to demoralization. It is due to the fact that our channels of public discourse have been hijacked by special interests. I'm not sure that the interviewee and interviewer of the above are not working for their own special interests. If you believe that everybody around you is demoralized, you will likely become demoralized. If people go out and 'stand in front of tanks' and nobody notices, that will be demoralizing.
Amercians aren't a broken people, they're either
clueless or in the fray. Bloggers and vloggers rule!
For those who don't know where to look (the net), of course it seems that nothing's going on. However, the fact that they're clueless is a great advantage and sometimes hilarious!
Senator Ted Stevens (Alaska) Mashup, his original statement is below.
Although pathetic, in some ways, even funnier.
CIA Officer, Robert Steele, Stresses the Importance of Blogging
Youtube Info: "This is a follow up montage to those who say Bloggers and making videos (Vloggers) and those who comment, are not making a difference."
This is the guy who endorsed Synthetic Terror
I wonder what Steele believes today, because I certainly DO NOT believe bin Laden, al Qaeda, nor Santa Clause did 9/11.

These "former" spooks always make me nervous. This guy seems more credible than, say, Michael Scheuer. Nonetheless, I have to wonder if he is completely on the up-n-up.
