They Want Us to Know: On Conspiracies and Cover-ups

The Transparent Conspiracy is a collection of essays written between 2006 and 2010, mainly about the 911 and JFK conspiracies and cover up, with a short collection of poems on the same topic. Morrisey’s latest book is a definite departure from other conspiracy literature. Morrissey has no interest in proving or disproving either the 911 or the JFK conspiracy – he feels this territory is well-covered by other authors. The topic of this book is mass psychology. Morrissey believes our government’s propaganda arm (whatever they call it now) is fully aware that a well-managed conspiracy cover-up can have a very intimidating effect, which can be very effective in keeping the public docile and obedient.

Specifically he argues there is major value (from the government point of view) in disclosing a limited amount of information concerning government culpability in atrocities such as the JFK assassination and 911. He bases his view on something he calls “Transparency Theory” – thus his title The Transparent Conspiracy. He says the CIA has long recognized that “telling part of the truth is the best way to lie.” They even have a term for it: “white propaganda.” Morrissey argues that for the government to brazenly commit criminal acts can be quite effective in demoralizing and alienating the tuned-in segment of the population that fully comprehends the corrupt nature of our government institutions. He then lays out the hypothetical question: if the reality of the 911 conspiracy were widely accepted by the American public, would they be capable of doing anything about it? Morrissey believes that at this point in history they would be powerless (that they lack the power to bring the culprits to trial or even impeach them). Which he contends is a powerful basis for demoralization and alienation.

The Logical Reconstruction of Reality: A Reply to Time

Time magazine, the flagship corporate-government mouthpiece, has always been good primarily for one thing--to let us know what Big Brother is thinking, and by the same token, to tell us what we should think. (If you have to ask who Big Brother is, see below.)

Before I reached the age of reason, at the age of 42 when I realized that the mainstream media had been lying for at least a quarter of a century, since the murder of JFK, Time and Newsweek were my teddy bears. Read them and before you know it, you're fast asleep in a world that is in control, no matter how bad it seems. The right people are doing the right things.

That was true, of course, only not in the way I thought. I was the one who was under control. Instead of shouting bloody murder from the rooftops, I was dutifully reading myself to sleep, taking my soma every week.

This latest attempt (Time, Sep. 3, 2006 ) to pacify the herd, to anesthetize us with the idea that "conspiracy theories" are defense mechanisms to protect ourselves from the big, bad, complex world, "empowering" us "to make sense of grand events" is striking, even for Time, in its illogic.

Talk about a wet blanket article.....

"He then lays out the hypothetical question: if the reality of the 911 conspiracy were widely accepted by the American public, would they be capable of doing anything about it? Morrissey believes that at this point in history they would be powerless (that they lack the power to bring the culprits to trial or even impeach them). Isn't he saying here that the 911 Truth Movement's objective of exposure and justice is futile?

I strongly disagree.

Regardless of his objective, this excerpt serves the PTB more than it does the 911 Truth Movement.

Sort of...

The issue is that many people are - incorrectly - more frightened by the thought of having no government than they are of having a criminal government (there is no other kind). As long as people think we need government, they will allow the government to do whatever it wants. That's why the key is education. When enough people are educated (I know sometimes it doesn't seem like it but we are living during a period of mass awakening) then the PTB become irrelevant.

This article just provides another reason why the PTB will never be punished by the institutions they use to exercise and protect their power. When enough people are awake, these institutions will crumble as the only thing keeping them in existence is the myth of legitimacy. That's not to say that the PTB won't use the institutions to put up a fight (the closer we get, the more brutal they will become) but that will only serve to speed up the awakening.

As long as the state exists, there will be no justice but, when the truth prevails, the state will crumble and the PTB that rely on the state to maintain their control will lose control.

I appreciate what you are saying...but

that is not how I interpret this excerpt. I guess one could emphasize the fact that he said "at this point in history" and assume that he sees a way in the future where we will get truth and justice. Just the same the statement of powerlessness hit me like a "wet blanket".

I don't disagree...

I was pointing out why I posted the article. I can't say what the author's motivations or intentions are but I posted it because I still see a lot of people who waste time writing and petitioning politicians and state institutions. Time that could be spent educating people (something that can make a difference).

It's not that "the 911 Truth Movement's objective of exposure and justice is futile", it's that "the 911 Truth Movement's objective of exposure and justice is futile" if it relies on the state (e.g.; courts, police, politicans, etc.).

On that we both agree.

Thanks for the clarification.
