As an aside, many of us have been following prophetic warnings regarding the "last days." I realize there is a danger of misinterpretation, but many of the prophecies from various religions are quite clear, and I think some of these may be of interest. Here I mention two, the first from Isaiah chapter 28 (extracting the most salient portions below). It appears that scornful men will rule the people and make lies their refuge as well as a "covenant with death". But, warns Isaiah, "when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, then ye shall be trodden down by it..."
14 Wherefore hear the word of the LORD, ye scornful men, that rule this people...
15 Because ye have said, We have made a covenant with death, and with hell are we at agreement; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, it shall not come unto us: for we have made lies our refuge, and under falsehood have we hid ourselves [for example, the official story of 9/11]:
16 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD...
17 Judgment also will I lay to the line, and righteousness to the plummet: and the hail shall sweep away the refuge of lies, and the waters shall overflow the hiding place.
18 And your covenant with death shall be disannulled, and your agreement with hell shall not stand; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, then ye shall be trodden down by it.
Applying the prophecy of Isaiah to our day, one may anticipate an "overflowing scourge", an epidemic, that will affect even those "rulers" who thought they would be immune from it and who perhaps engineered it.

The following vision of the future by Tongan Yohani Wolfgram may be of interest to some in that it has achieved partial fulfillment already. I heard about this in about 2006, including the first part about a devastating economic crisis -- BEFORE this became apparent in approximately the last year of Pres. GW Bush's presidency with the bank bail-outs and all that.
Yohani Wolfgram: A dream that he had in 1989 seeing the future of America as told to a close friend.

Many of you are familiar with the LDS Tongan Patriarch Yohani Wolfgram who died recently. On a recent trip I talked to someone who was a close friend of brother Wolfgrams and who recounted to me an experience that he had had around 1989. It was a dream of the cleansing of America. Here are a few salient points that he mentioned:

* The Big economic collapse which leads to chaos will begin in the last year of the 2nd term of the son of George H.W. Bush who will become president. [Remember, this was recorded in 1989.]
* There will be a great drought at about this same time over much of the country.

* Great upheavals all over. In the Wasatch front area of Utah a tremendous earthquake will occur.

* The wicked will be cleansed from the land by earthquake, flood, and plague.

* There will be a nuclear bomb or bombs go off in Northern Utah [and perhaps elsewhere; his vision focusses on Utah where he lived]
* Millions of foreign troops will invade America.
* The main foreign force in the Utah area will be Chinese or Chinese looking troops mixed with Latin-american troops. [This mix suggests involvement of the UN.]

* The rocky mountain area will then [after the cleansing] become a fruitful place where many people will gather.
Note that several large cities in the USA already face a water crisis:

Regarding the predicted drought -- there is also a strong possibility that the tap-water supply that we take for granted will be interrupted, leading to widespread "drought". For example, an "electromagnetic pulse" would probably wipe out much of the electrical equipment needed for purification and supply of drinking water.

I realize that such predictive warnings may not appeal to all readers, but the advice may help some. My recommendation is that we all store food (at least several months' worth) and a good supply of water, and more generally, to seek for sustainable life-styles. I have referred to these principles in several of my talks.

Prophesy is a living feature

Prophesy is a living feature of human experience at any point in time. Our modern day prophets are the ones calling for
justice and truth telling. The "overflowing scourge" can also be interpreted as a wave of truth actions, from new investigations, scientific challenges to unscientific beliefs and proclamations, and legal actions to restore the laws of the land that have been trampled by the ruling elite. "That" is a type of scourge delivered to the system of deceit and its perpetrators. Also in harmony with Isaiah are those warning of the dangers of "peak oil" and its disastrous consequences. Steve gives us wise advice on the storing of water and food and sustainable living preparations. Thanks for sticking your neck out like this Steve.

John

Excellent points, John --

"Prophesy is a living feature of human experience at any point in time." Yes. Interesting, isn't it?

Many traditions speak of an anticipated "overflowing scourge" in the "end-times". I think we should prepare for it -- and for the Renaissance period which will surely follow the "cleansing scourge." Some call it a "millenium of peace", to follow the period of wars and famine. This Renaissance is worth living and preparing for (IMO).

links

Have we been given a reason why this paper has a new URL? There must be a great number of links which will now be broken. Many people who created these links will not know they are broken, so they won't be fixed. We paid for the entry - surely we have a right to have the old link still work.

Frank -- agreed Bentham should have the old links working also

It is strange that this "Fourteen Points" paper was unavailable for so long, and now the old link is broken. I will write Bentham and remind them that we paid for the privilege of having the paper be "OPEN", that is, available on-line and at no cost to readers, and ask if they will fix the broken older link.
