Love Me I'm A Liberal! And don't talk to me about conspiracies!

One more way to get 9/11 Truth out to the public is to write songs about it. Here Vic Sadot writes about his humorous parody update to Phil Ochs' "Love Me I'm A Liberal" from his 1966 "Phil Ochs In Concert" album. Vic writes about working 9/11 Truth themes into the song. Vic Sadot gives all of his "9/11 Truth & Justice Songs" away as free mp3 downloads at Last FM and MySpace. We need to be a singing out movement as much as we need to be scholarly, scientific, and articulate. Check out the words and the links to one more song to help you to ring in the 2011 New Year with 9/11 Truth, the 10th anniversary year of that tragic "false flag" event that was so shamefully used to manipulate the American public to support corporate empire wars and repression of our inalienable rights.

One more way to get 9/11 Truth out to the public is to write songs about it. I've been writing 9/11 Truth songs since about 2004 after being sent emails about on-line sites that questioned the official story. In July of 2005 I was invited to sing at the DC Truth Convergence.

Books like David Ray Griffin's "The 9/11 Commission: Omissions & Distortions" and "The New Pearl Harbor", and Michael Ruppert's "Crossing the Rubicon" inspired me to write and record such songs as "Cheney's in the Bunker", "The Ballad of William Rodriguez", and "Blowback or Bloody Treason". A newspaper article about the rescue dogs at so-called "Ground Zero" and Richard Gage's Architects & Engineers for 9/11 Truth presentations inspired me to write "Trouble in the Rubble".

When I got to Berkeley, CA in 2008 I started to learn how to make music videos. My first one was Cheney's in the Bunker and my second one was "The Ballad of William Rodriguez". Videos for songs that were not expressly about 9/11 still had many references to that event, such as "Are You A Citizen (Or Are You A Slave)".

The latest song of that sort is a humorous parody update of Phil Ochs' 1966 classic titled "Love Me I'm A Liberal". If you know the original, then the update will be interesting to you from that perspective as well. Ochs' "Love Me I'm A Liberal" skewered the political posturing and self-serving hypocrisy of many who wore the political label of "liberal" so proudly and ostentatiously during the US Civil Rights and Vietnam War era even as they kept a comfortable distance from deep engagement and the truth at the roots of the systemic corruption facing citizens of a repubic. My 2011 update replaces Medgar Evers with "the Kennedy's", Korea with "Iraq and Afghanistan", Humphry with "Obama", the people of Mississippi with "the people of Mesopotamia", Pete Seeger with "Bob Dylan", UN with "UN troops", Lerner and Goldman with "Israel and occupation", and old union hymms with "Blowin' In the Wind". The song continues in the great tradition of "folk process" and the use of humor to expose political hypocrisy and contradictions for which Phil Ochs has established his historical place in "Americana" music. Where Phil sang, "If you ask me to bus my children, I hope the cops take down your name", I put, "If you talk 9/11 Truth to my children, I hope the cops take down your name". The lyrics follow below. Love Me I’m a Liberal
The original song was by Phil Ochs in 1966
Update parody Copyright 2008 by Vic Sadot

I cried about them killing the Kennedys
Tears ran down my face
And I cried about the murder of Martin
I thought it was such a disgrace!
But don’t talk to me about “conspiracies”
There are “lone nuts” all over the place!
So love me, love me, love me! I’m a Liberal!

I go to peace vigils and rallies
It puts my poor conscience at ease
And I vote for the Democratic Party
Though I know it’s the corporates they’ll please
At least they’re the lesser of two evils
The hipper of hypocracies!
So love me, love me, love me! I’m a Liberal!

GW was a national disaster!
And Cheney's a national disgrace!
Using big lies and terror and torture!
To wage wars and put puppets in place!
But I cheered when Clinton bombed Yugoslavia!
Cause killing was correct in that case!
So love me, love me, love me! I’m a Liberal!

I cheered when Obama was chosen
My faith in the system restored
Though he sold out to AIPAC and the Banksters!
I’m sure our rights won’t be ignored!
He won’t talk about Revolution!
Or a Health Plan that’s just and assured!
So love me, love me, love me! I’m a Liberal!

Oh the people of old Mesopotamia
Should all hang their heads in shame
Now I can’t understand how their minds work
They're all Muslims! So they must be to blame!
And if you talk “9/11 Truth” to my children
I hope the cops take down your name
So love me, love me, love me! I’m a Liberal!

Yes I read Daily KOS and The Nation
I’ve learned to take every view
I’m for Israel and for occupation
I feel like I’m almost a Jew!
And when it comes to times like to Iraq and Afghanistan
There’s no one more red, white, and blue!
So love me, love me, love me! I’m a Liberal!

I vote for the Democratic Party
They want UN troops to be strong
I attend all the Bob Dylan concerts
He sure gets me singing those songs!
Now I can't send all the money you ask for
But I send my best wishes along!
So love me, love me, love me! I’m a Liberal!

Sure once I was young and impulsive
Wore ever conceivable pin
Even went to anti-war meetings
Learned to sing “Blowin’ in the Wind”
Ah but I’ve grown older and wiser
And that’s why I’m turning you in!
So love me, love me, love me! I’m a Liberal!
