Michael Moore Backs Call to Re-Open Investigation of 9/11 Attacks

September 29, 2011

In his film "Fahrenheit 9/11," Michael Moore explored the complex ties between Bush administration officials and associates, the Saudi Royal family, and those believed to have carried out the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the United States. Today, Moore is backing former Florida governor and senator Bob Graham’s call for President Obama to reopen the investigation into 9/11 after new information emerged about the possible role of prominent Saudis. According to recent news reports, a wealthy young Saudi couple fled their home in a gated community in Sarasota, Florida, just a week or so before Sept. 11, 2001, leaving behind three cars and nearly all of their possessions. "There are many unanswered questions and they should be answered," Moore says. He also was targeted by his critics for this film. Moore talks about how the Bush administration worried the movie would hurt Bush’s re-election chances, and how he found out that he ranked second behind then-President Bush on the number of discovered plots to attack him. Michael Moore, Academy Award-winning documentary filmmaker and activist. His new book is a memoir titled, "Here Comes Trouble: Stories from My Life."

AMY GOODMAN: You call for reopening the investigation?

MICHAEL MOORE: Oh, absolutely.

Thanks Michael!

Thanks to both. They have both really come around. Despite the biting skepticism of Chip Berlet and Noam Chomsky insulting peoples intelligence for searching for 9/11 justice, Amy and Michael prove that if we take a reserved, fact based approach, people come around. This is a HUGE deal. These two (Amy/Michael) have the power to make 9/11 justice seeking "cool" among the vast majority of the left. MASSIVE NEWS!!!

Yes, thank you

for finally breaking the silence of Democracy Now about 911 truth.

Hopkins talk by Moore more than 5 years ago

I asked him about Ashcroft flying commercial 6 weeks prior to 9/11. He gave an excuse for Ashcroft.

There is no excuse for Ashcroft, on any front.

Awww, David I thought it was all about satyagraha...

Did you give him a good reference for this fact? Do you have this on vid? What's your point, cause he currently sounds right on. Are you saying we shouldn't spread this vid around like wildfire because you couldn't phrase a question right 5 years ago? What else did you say to him when you asked him? Push any conspiracy theories?

Several months or more before

Several months or more before the financial crisis (this is years ago) Moore mentioned that his 'next movie' was going to be by far his most controversial, with subject matter 'so toxic' that he expected only 30% of the audience would be prepared for it or able to take it. He repeated - without giving away what the subject matter was - that people would be shocked by what he intended to cover. Then when the financial crisis hit hard, Moore announced that CAPITALISM A LOVE STORY was his next production. It seemed fairly clear to me at the time that Moore had initially planned to tackle something else. I suspect that Moore is aware of both the deficiencies in the official story, and the shitstorm he'd provoke if he waded into those waters. We could all use some bravery from him on this topic, but Moore has mentioned in interviews how he now walks with Special Forces security to protect him from the regular death threats and personal attacks (some in public) that he gets from enraged right wingers who view him as the enemy of America.

This We Are Change video is from 4 years ago and appears in Alex Jones's TRUTH RISING

The interviewer asks Moore his thoughts on 9/11 being an inside job. Moore's response makes his personal position fairly clear.

"Well, I've had a number of firefighters tell me over the years since Fahrenheit 9/11 that they heard these explosions, that they believe that there's much more to the story than we've been told. I don't think the official investigations have told us the complete truth. They haven't even told us half the truth.... I intend, in my own way, to find some answers."

He also queries the Pentagon attack in the same video. Regardless of whether his indicated Pentagon questions would bear any fruitful evidence, anyone who seems receptive to the notion that there were bombs in the WTC to aid the collapse should have a pretty good idea of the import of that evidence.

Here he announces it in 2008'

obviously he changed his plans or his plans were changed for him.

I find it strange

that MM says ( at about mark 36:00) during his interview with Amy Goodman, "Why when no one else could fly, could all these people connected to the Saudi Royal family and the Bin Laden family could fly..."

They didn't. They flew in the days after 9/11 when the airspace was opened up.

Here it is from his own website:

The facts stated in Fahrenheit 9/11 are well documented and are based entirely on the findings contained in the 9/11 commission draft report, which states, "After the airspace reopened, six chartered flights with 142 people, mostly Saudi Arabian nationals, departed from the United States between September 14 and 24. One flight, the so-called Bin Ladin flight, departed the United States on September 20 with 26 passengers, most of them relatives of Usama Bin Ladin." National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States, Threats and Responses in 2001, Staff Statement No. 10, The Saudi Flights, p. 12

Unfortunately, some news organizations have misinterpreted what the film says. Some have said Fahrenheit 9/11 alleges that these flights out of the country took place when commercial airplanes were still grounded. The film does not say this. The film states clearly that these flights left after September 13 (the day the FAA began to slowly lift the ban on air traffic).

I don't understand this. He should know this backwards and forwards by now.

Well, sort of

It's not black and white when one can say that "flights resumed". Moore might have forgotten the details, and there's the additional confusion of commercial and private. From historycommons:

September 13, 2001:
Saudi Royals Fly to Kentucky in Violation of Domestic Flight Ban

After a complete air flight ban in the US began during the 9/11 attacks, some commercial flights begin resuming this day. However, all private flights are still banned from flying. Nonetheless, at least one private flight carrying Saudi royalty takes place on this day. And in subsequent days, other flights carry royalty and bin Laden family members. These flights take place even as fighters escort down three other private planes attempting to fly. Most of the Saudi royals and bin Ladens in the US at the time are high school or college students and young professionals. [New York Times, 9/30/2001; Vanity Fair, 10/2003] The first flight is a Lear Jet that leaves from a private Raytheon hangar in Tampa, Florida, and takes three Saudis to Lexington, Kentucky. [Tampa Tribune, 10/5/2001] This flight apparently takes place several hours after a private meeting between President Bush and Prince Bandar, the Saudi ambassador to the US. Some think the idea of the flights were approved at that meeting (see September 13, 2001). For two years, this violation of the air ban is denied by the FAA, FBI, and White House, and decried as an urban legend except for one article detailing them in a Tampa newspaper. [Tampa Tribune, 10/5/2001] Finally, in 2003, counterterrorism “tsar” Richard Clarke confirms the existence of these flights, and Secretary of State Powell confirms them as well. [MSNBC, 9/7/2003; Vanity Fair, 10/2003] However, the White House remains silent on the matter. [New York Times, 9/4/2003] Officials at the Tampa International Airport finally confirm this first flight in 2004. But whether the flight violated the air ban or not rests on some technicalities that remain unresolved. [Lexington Herald-Leader, 6/10/2004] The Saudis are evacuated to Saudi Arabia over the next several days (see September 14-19, 2001).

Next time, do it right... if that is possible in the US?

Any "investigation" without full subpoena power, or with executive privilege get-outs and invocations, or with a stack of subjects avoided because of arbitrary (or bogus, or fabricated) "national security considerations" on account of CIA/NSA etc. pressure, or with the presence/influence of Washington DC insiders (such as Richard Clarke, Bob Graham, etc . etc. etc.,), or including anyone with a conflict of interest, (ie practically anyone in DC political, lobbying, corporate or military power circles), or compromised by limited funding and time constraints, is a total and absolute waste of everyone's time and money, and will just be Part Two of the previous, farce.

The 9/11 Commission was deliberately "nobbled" by Philip Zelikow, and lied to by the Pentagon and the White House. It was like the the Gambino Family investigating Mafia organized crime. It was blindingly obvious that certain parties were being protected by this systematic trashing of a federal inquiry... and I would bet the farm that it was NOT al Qaeda personnel who were the ones being protected.

new investigation

Yes. Subpoena power, etc.
When we hear mainstream media begin to clamor for a new investigation, we should be so very wary. International sounds better to me, more unlikely to be controlled by the nefarious interests.

International is exactly

International is exactly right. Would probably be the most expeditious anyway with regard to getting results. That, and the majority of the truth movement is overseas and doesn't have to worry about forsaking "patriotism" or offending neighbors, etc. The U.N., of course, I'm quite sure, will not endorse such an investigation, being that the cabal involved with the planning and motive for the 9/11 attack, is in itself, international...or more accurately, non-national, ideologically speaking. I wouldn't anticipate the U.N. being an ally to the 9/11 truth movement in any effective manner.

Incidentally, the idea of "re-opening" an investigation into 9/11 by strickly U.S. authorities who would then obviously run it, and filter its "findings" through the same corporate media apparatus that's been its primary cover-up tool since the day of 9/11/01, is something that George Carlin may himself have taken apart with fine repose and eloquence.

International is not simply a "better" idea, it's the only option.

We'll See

I'm not impressed, he's had plenty of changes to question the entire 911 story.

Ahhh :)

I'll always have a fond remembrance for those halcyon days when all we required from someone to support 9/11 truth was joining the call for a new investigation.

I'll go out on a limb and say that you must be referring to the CDLT when you say, "the entire 911 story".

Save the cynical attitude

I don't wanna know what could possibly impress you oh wise cynic. Moore's audience is bigger than ever. People are more open-minded towards questioning the gov't and the OCT. So clint, what's your problem? He sounds right on and has been especially as of late. Watch his speech a number of months ago in Wisconsin. It will make you tear up.

BTW Time to say touche' Mr. Alex J, who tried to terrorize and scare Moore away. And for that matter attempt to turn those seeking 9/11 justice away from Moore. Aj and the cynical winers LOSE!

It will difficult

for many who have stayed away -- or been kept away -- from the technical issues that are the bedrock of the truth movement to ignore the wide open evidence of high-level coverup before, during and after the fact. The recent disclosures about CIA and FBI treason is telling. And coming from people like Richard Clark and Bob Graham, they are dynamite.

names change the game remains the same

Up to 10 known "AL Qaeda" names on the Sarasota gate lists Amy sais. Maybe FBI had agent INH [It Never Happened] FRIELDS on the case? Amy could interview Daniel HOPSICKER . ATTA in his red TransAm. Snorting coke. the dots keep keeping on. Obviously solving crime aint at the top of DOJ - DOT list and ERIC must be busy keeping lids on all kinds of things. Another plane the White House won't comment about is the E4B recorded flying out after Pentagon strike. Would clean up a whole lot of discussion to see whats in that information tank. Except that nobody in the system will even talk about why nobody in the system will ever talk about whether it was even there-or not.

Friends will be Friends.
