The shockwaves of the Petraeus affair are still being felt in Washington. Predictably, the media focus is on the prurient nation of the scandal, but this is no ordinary sex scandal. Join us tonight on the program as we look at some of the implications of the affair from "access" journalism to blackmail to Benghazi and CIA secret prisons and the question of who will step in to fill his shoes.

Looks Like a Shakeup in the Politburo

This has all the earmarks of an old Soviet power shift or The Night of the Long Knives, take your pick. Something is really wrong when you have to get your news from an ex-pat Canadian in a flannel shirt. Nothing personal James and I am sure you will agree.

James was kind enough to read this on The Corbett Report , after I posted it . Thanks James, that was a little thrill.

Attempted Election Fraud/Coup Involved?

We know Benjamin Netanyahu, PNAC, and Karl Rove's Group all backed Romney.

Anonymous suggests the real reason for Rove's desperate election night stall on FOX.

Adviser: Mitt Romney "Shellshocked" He Lost, Paul Ryan Stunned

Were these generals part of a plan backing Romney to win? Was the Benghazi attack an October Surprise orchestrated by a cabal inside the Pentagon to push the election towards Romney? The right wing media and Romney himself sure pushed it in the weeks and days running up to the election.

"The decisive defeat of Mitt Romney in the presidential race and the forced resignation of ex-Gen. David Petraeus as CIA director have marginalized America's neoconservatives more than at any time in the past several decades, confining them mostly to Washington think tanks and media opinion circles."

"The neocons bet heavily on a Romney victory as they envisioned a return to power, like what they enjoyed under President George W. Bush when they paved the way for the U.S. invasion of Iraq and dreamed of forcing "regime change" in Iran and Syria. During the campaign, Romney largely delegated his foreign policy to a cast of neocon retreads from the Bush era."

"The significance of Petraeus's resignation as CIA director is that the ex-four-star general was one of the neocons' last insiders who could be counted on to frustrate Obama's negotiations with Iran."

Enterprise Journalism

The best link for me was the one from Fox 19 in Cincinnati. It is quite unusual to see a news outlet doing enterprise journalism as it is called in the trade. It was a little bit painful for me to see Thom Hartmann although he had some good things to say. My problem with Hartmann is that his thinking is anachronistic, his shtick, if you will, is that the unions and the progressives are waiting in the wings to turn things around. What is he a Wobblie? I can't listen to his show. Also, Hartmann is untouchable, you can only disagree with him by calling into his show which, as it turns out, is an Oprahesque gab fest where a lot of hot air is released but nothing is ever resolved.

Was this an October Surprise that fizzled out? Alex Jones said that the Benghazi incident was an October Surprise but one with an interesting pedigree: before this thing escalated to a Night of The Long Knives and was still under-reported Jones was saying that this was politically motivated but with a cynical and sinister twist; Jones said that Hillary Clinton's camp was a fifth column and had taken part in orchestrating the event to shorten the time between administrations and open up the field for her to run in 2016. That is actually an interesting piece of speculation even if coming from the master of doom and gloom himself. Stranger things have happened. But what is telling is that top brass, point of the spear types have been rusticated. This shows that a loyalty issue is at the core of things.

When a campaign is in full swing it becomes almost quasi-governmental. Many of the campaign lights go on to be members of the transition team and the candidates are briefed on National Security and receive Secret Service protection. Win or loose, the opposing team has power and money enough to influence their opponents platform to say nothing of the will of the people within the respective parties. This represents enough power to make tentative deals with other states as Reagan did with the Ayatollahs. So, did Romney have such a deal with Israel? Has this been asked? It is telling that shortly after the election Israel is going at it with Gaza again. Perhaps they had just made an big arms deal and have to use up some surplus fire power by its sell-by date. Who knows?

Is it just me or did Homeland Security have nothing to say about any of this?
