An image of apparently glowing material at the World Trade Center complex, resembling the molten iron produced by thermite reactions and molten flows from WTC 2 just before its collapse, was recorded 20 minutes after the collapse of WTC 2, by two time Pulitzer Prize nominated photographer Alan Chin.

Molten iron as produced by a thermite reaction:

The image and accounts of Mr. Chin would seem to contradict the explanations provided by the National Institute of Standards and Technology, for molten metal that was observed at Ground Zero following the 9/11 attacks:

"Any molten steel in the wreckage was more likely due to the high temperature resulting from long exposure to combustion within the pile than to short exposure to fires or explosions while the buildings were standing."
