Inside a 9/11 'Truther' Convention

Chris Bury and producer Katie Hinman did just that this weekend -- attending a convention in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania, alongside hundreds who share a collective distrust of the official explanation for the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks.
As they will report tonight, the attendees come from several different viewpoints, knitted together in this "movement" largely online.
We talk to conference organizer Betsy Metz, who tells us there is "absolutely a cover-up," and the producers of "Loose Change" a conspiracy theorist film that is among the most downloaded videos in Google history.
Our presence was met, as you will see in tonight's segment, with some resistance. For obvious reasons, the "truther" movement has clashed with many in the mainstream media.
John Patrick Bedell, the gunman killed in last week's Pentagon shooting, had previously posted comments online that questioned what really happened in 2001. Those at the convention disavowed Bedell's act of violence.

The mainstream media is ill informed
when it comes to 9/11 information and 9/11 history - they don't seem to have access to even a small percentage of the information we've unearthed, and they don't want to have it - so it all get's reduced to a soundbite at the end, that the "conspiracy theorists" are just trying to make something complicated, out of a very simple act by a bunch of hijackers. They appeal in the end, to the dummy, the ignorant, the misinformed, and in so doing, they simply remind us that we have work to do - so many people just do not have access to the information, including MSM people who turned a blind eye in preference towards the myth, the propaganda they sold all along. The only premise of their argument however, that the government would not and could not ever do such a thing, isn't a valid argument. The other one they're trying on now, is - we'll be arguing about it forever, and the truth will never be known - when all the while the physical record of the actual occurance, of the destruction of the world trade center towers and buildings 7, is right in front of our very eyes.

ABC's Very Clever Manipulation Of Its Audience
At one point during the "Nightline" segment, a conference attendee is asked what he does for a living when not questioning the official story. His answer: playing music at his local church (the editor then mockingly cuts to the interviewer for his expression). The attendee also unwisely claimed to be an uncredentialed scientist.
Meanwhile, Richard Gage and his organization of credentialled supporters were completely ignored by ABC.
The major media can longer be excused as being ignorant of the 9/11 controversies. By all appearances they seem complicit in the cover-up.

These are unbelievable things to say in an interview of this sort if you're not qualified. And especially if you've just said your main job is playing music in church. Also maybe people should be very careful about smiling at all in interviews with the press. It must be hard though, speaking to someone as obnoxious as the ABC guy, not to smile in attempt to get him to 'lighten up' or whatever.
Dylan, Korey and Coleen seemed aware that anything they said could be used as evidence against them.
I'm not aware of Sander's style, and assume this was a minor misstep.. it will good to see the full versions of these interviews. It seemed like he realized what he'd said after he said it.
Credentials
In truth, scientists and historians existed long before credentials, but I understand the point that the claim of being a scientist by someone who is not credentialed can be used against us. Sander Hicks is also a writer and activist.
Not ill informed...completely ignorant!!
Chris Bury states in the segment, "Their film peddles some largely discredited arguments, claiming that jet fuel was not hot enough to melt the steel structure."
This is a point on which truthers, debunkers and the official government reports agree. The jet fuel fires came nowhere close to melting the steel structure of either WTC1 or 2. The fact that Nightline and Chris Bury are unaware of this fact shows how completely ignorant they are on the matter of 9/11.
They did interview 9/11 Co-Chair Lee Hamilton, who is also not up to speed on any 9/11 related knowledge. In an interview once he said, "What caused the collapse of the buildings, to summarize it, was that the super-heated jet fuel melted the steel super-structure of these buildings and caused their collapse."
Do journalist do research anymore? Apparently not
The official story thrives off ignorance.

Please, ABC, be our guest and show those World Trade Center photos. And while you're at it, be sure to remind your audience that it was jet fuel fires that brought the towers down. That will satisfy everyone, no doubt, and won't make anybody the least bit interested in learning more about the 9/11 truth movement.

of a hit job as I had feared when I saw the full interview w/the LC lads.
I liked how a wide spectrum of regular folks were seen. All the bumper stickers and books may well have prodded some to muse...."hmmm, I wonder what all the fuss is about, perhaps I'll do a bit of my own research".
That a "housewife" would plunk down 20 grand will also tell joe 12 pack that many normal people care very deeply. And Bobby Mac was shown briefly mentioning his son, w/another seperate word of some families involved.
The more I dwell on how our fears were not fully realised, it seems like a positive.
ABC may be getting the message: those found to be accomplices in the cover-up will be dealt with harshly in time. They may be trying to save their future existence.

How to Handle Chris Bury
I agree that this wasn't as much of a hit piece as I thought it would be. The ABC reporter did needle both Coleen Rowley and Dylan and Korey with the same relentless question about did the government murder its own citizens, etc. Bury used the clips where Coleen, Dylan and Korey were a bit flustered even though they answered eloquently anyway. Since Bury had an agenda which seemed to come straight out of CIA, FBI torture training and interrogation, the better way to handle him and reporters like him is to doge the question completely and speak to the irrefutable facts. Just launch into any number of ironclad arguments such as anyone who thinks a building can fall at free fall, the speed of gravity without demolitions being placed is ignorant of basic physics; there were multiple witnesses to explosions going off before the planes hit and so on. Denying a reporter's irritating questions will then get him annoyed and hopefully will get him to change tactics. Take a page out of the theater of the absurd - the dialog or questions and answers don't have to match.
TV ads - 30 second spots for $50-$100
I predict that purchasing TV ads for a local venue which promote AE911Truth will be part of our gameplan in the near future. 30 second spots for $50-$100 are very realistic, even alongside programs such as Discovery Channel's "Shark Week" when purchased in a locality. Along with that gameplan, we could probably gain an "infomercial timeslot" to play a 9/11 film.

There must be something that we can do that will reach a consensus for the 9/11 truth movement to expand to the next level. What can we do all together to make such a difference?
This week I plan to file the 9/11 crime into my court system, and write a letter about it for local newspapers, blogs, etc. If there is just a few of us, dozens, hundreds or thousands, such actions will take the hard evidence and places it on record before those taking sworn oaths to protect the US Constitution. This campaign could have a second leg.. If we only get off the mark.. set.. go..

My comment to ABC
I just watched it. It wasn't all bad but still not acceptable enough for our so called "Fourth Estate."
ABC, you can only get away with this propaganda BS for so long. While you didn't mention Popular Mechanics by name, you DID say that the movement relies on a series of "discredited ideas" and you were in fact absolutely WRONG when you said that Hani Hanjour's incompetency as a pilot were among these ideas. Likewise, the argument that the WTC was destroyed with explosive demolition has not been discredited. Once again, as Jon Colman noted above, the Popular Mechanics propaganda has been thoroughly debunked by David Ray Griffin in the book "Debunking 9/11 Debunking: An Answer to Popular Mechanics and Other Defenders of the Official Conspiracy Theory."
I have to at least give you kudos for acknowledging the FBI whistleblower Colleen Rowley, although Mr. Bury was trying to sandwich her into a corner with a loaded question rather than honestly let her speak.
And I have to at least give you kudos for featuring (briefly) family member Bob McIlvaine.
And I have to give you kudos for airing the movement's disavowing of any violence.
But ultimately, in the end, it was mostly a shameful attempt to acknowledge 9/11 truth while at the same time marginalizing it as being "largely discredited" and declaring that we'll be arguing about 9/11 for the next hundred years.
Not to mention that the Pentagon shooter was what inspired you to even do this story and lead in with it.

God, I despise that moniker, 'truther". Jesus Christ was a "truther" I suppose, but the term is a pejorative. Let's not use it to describe ourselves. We are a movement, like the anti-war movement, the Civil Rights Movement, the Anti-Death Penalty Movement. Imagine Sister Helen Prejean being described as an "anti-deather"? Or Martin Luther King as a Civil-Righty" or Daniel Berrigan as as "war-whiner"...Same thing people. WE are the "TRUTH MOVEMENT"

I've noticed that when I embrace the "truther" label, it ceases to have it's perjorative connotation. The people who use the truther label seem to be disarmed when I make the term my own. These are just my observations, however.

... if it is pejorative as such, at least not very much. After all, it contains the very positive word "truth" + the active ending "er". I suggest you English-spekers use it proudly - make it "your own", as the other replyER notes.
