They know we're coming: Bush picks ex-911 Commission Member for White House Counsel

Bush Picks Fielding as Counsel

It amazes me that men like Fielding and Zelikow were allowed to be a part of the 9/11 Commission. That is like Johnnie Cochran being picked to be on the jury of the OJ Simpson trial. These biases alone should justify a completely new investigation. This is the key. Once a new investigation begins, it's curtains for the Neocons. Of course, this will require politicians who are not swayed by big oil, AIPAC and the Military/Industrial Complex. Are there any still out there? The Bush Administration is already bracing for our onslaught of justice for the 9/11 Families. Let's get political and stop ranting about "leftist gatekeepers". We need a permanent presence on Capitol Hill demanding a new investigation. We need to reach out to Democrats and Republicans. Remember Curt Weldon? Being GOP doesn't mean you are anti-truth. We need to get mobilized and stop our silly infighting and allegations of "disinfo" and "gatekeeping". The goal is a new investigation. As Lt. Col. Bowman said, "The truth about 9/11 is that we DON'T KNOW the truth about 9/11, and we should". The American public loves mysteries. September 11th is the most obvious Law & Order plot line ever. Even a thirteen year-old could tell you that it was an inside job. That's why all these polls show a massive majority of Americans rejecting the official story. Because it's so obvious who was the real culprit is! So please: stop the bickering and paranoia. Leave paranoia to the people who perpetrated this crime. They are the ones getting scared (article pasted below).

Bush Picks Fielding as Counsel

President Bush has selected Fred F. Fielding to be his White House counsel, recruiting a seasoned Washington veteran to reprise the same job he held under Ronald Reagan and represent the president with Democratic congressional investigators, sources close to the process said today.

The White House may announce the appointment as early as tomorrow, the sources said, just days after longtime Bush loyalist Harriet Miers was eased out as the president's top lawyer in preparation for any forthcoming struggle with a new Democratic Congress eager to investigate the administration.

Fielding, 67, brings the experience and political heft that White House Chief of Staff Joshua B. Bolten has been seeking to counter any aggressive moves to probe the most controversial decisions of the Bush presidency. Smooth, soft-spoken yet battle-hardened, Fielding is considered a Republican "wise man" who Bush aides believe will be able to negotiate compromise without surrendering on the most important priorities.

"It sends the perfect signal that we are serious about the president's position and the principles he has articulated but we're also going to be reasonable and work together to get some of these issues resolved," said Helgi C. Walker, a former Bush White House associate counsel. "He brings stature and gravitas and he also brings a very healthy perspective, the ability to prioritize in crafting a settlement."

Walker now works with Fielding at his firm, Wiley Rein & Fielding but said she could not confirm his appointment. . Other sources, however, said the decision has been made for some time.

Fielding has one of the most extensive resumes in town, having served as deputy to White House counsel John Dean under President Richard M. Nixon and as White House counsel for Reagan from 1981 to 1986. He also served as a member of the commission that investigated the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

The move to bring back a former White House counsel from another era is reminiscent of President Bill Clinton's decision in the midst of the Whitewater investigation in 1994 to hire Lloyd N. Cutler as his chief lawyer many years after Cutler served in the same position under Jimmy Carter. In both cases, the president was reaching out to a pillar of the Washington establishment in hopes of tamping down political troubles.

In Bush's case, he faces a spate of congressional demands for information on politically sensitive topics such as whether officials authorized the abuse of U.S. detainees, whether the administration turned a blind eye to profiteering by politically connected contractors in the Iraq war, how the White House responded to Hurricane Katrina and whether senior officials complied with the law in ordering heightened domestic surveillance.

Lawyers at the Justice Department have been meeting with counterparts from other agencies to discuss potential points of conflict with Congress and to map out legal strategies for responding to demands for documents and testimony. The department has also held internal meetings on the topic in recent weeks with representatives from the FBI and from Justice's other major components.

Miers, who was Bush's personal attorney in Texas and became his nominee to the Supreme Court until withdrawing her name under conservative pressure, resigned from her White House post last week after several long conversations with Bolten, officials said. Bolten has long been skeptical that Miers was the right person to serve as the president's chief counsel and his concern grew after the November elections handed Congress to Democrats, along with subpoena power, officials said.

"Fred Fielding's been in the White House before and he understands how the place works, which is very important," said Leonard A. Leo, executive vice president of the Federalist Society, who informally advises the White House on legal matters. "He understands how the Hill works, which is important. And he has widespread respect from all points on the spectrum."

Hell Yeah......

Woot.

I can understand your enthusiasm

because it appears that some questioning and investigation of -some- issues is in store. However, it is 'pie in the sky' to imagine that any more than one or two representatives will pursue 9/11 truth with a new investigation. The neolibs and neocons are tweedledee and tweedledum of the push for a new world order.

And in any case, disinfo, psyops and left gatekeeping remain and will always remain significantly important phenomena both because of the undermining effects they have upon 9/11 truth and any other issues the exploration of which truly threaten the PTB because these tactics attempt to direct and limit actual discourse/investigation. And because examination of the phenomena of psyops/disinfo/left gatekeeping themselves help us to understand the motives/mechanisms of control and the controllers. And thereby to guard against them at least to some degree. Since I take the perhaps not so radical view that all who engage knowingly in these psyops against the free and unfettered exploration of truth (and not just with respect to 9/11) as engaging in a kind of treason against the dying Republic I believe they are very suitable subjects of concern and discussion.

In any case, it has become apparent that the 'disinfo' folks truly cannot tolerate a full free investigation because they continuously deride the notion of one. This, to my mind, is also treason. Thus it is better to come to know your enemies and their modus operandi so as to better counter them. These issues will not go away. However, the fact of their existence should not preclude the acceptance of minor differences in beliefs nor discourage the coming together for common purpose. But it is getting easier to discern minor differences of truth seekers from acts of 'disinfo' because the general level of awareness of these behaviors has increased. And that is a good thing.

"There are none so hoplessly enslaved as those who falsely believe they are free" (Goethe)..... a paraphrase from V: Cast aside the illusions. Only when you are finally hopeless can you truly be free.

bravo medicis

a great comment with lots of good insights. I especially agree with your phrase that the minor differences are becoming easier to differentiate from the disinfo. and it is precisely because we are onto their tactics. but since the enemy/target is a moving one, we have to keep debating and sussing out whatever we suspect they're up to. Then, with the rating system and with free and open debate not shackled by notions of political correctness, we will continue to adjust and learn. I'm a big fan of the concept of EMERGENCE, and what I see is that as we create systems like the one here for analyzing, discussing, and passing judgement on facts and speclation, a more truthful narrative tends to emerge from the seeming chaos.

This system works better the more people that participate, so that we can be assured that the disinfo agents are outnumbered by agents of critical thought. I think we have great reason to be proud of our accomplishments, to be confident that jmore will join our mission of truth, and to be hopeful that in the end, we will have succeeded against incredible odds. We are making history, folks--don't ever doubt that.

Connected

Something ain't right,

We better get connected.
The Writing is on the wall.
If we don't stay connected.
The stumble we will fall.

These Stereo MCs lyrics come to mind.

Good advice medicis.

“it is possible to fool all the people all the time—when government and press cooperate.” George Seldes - "legendary investigative reporter"

This doesn't need to be that complicated.

The bottom line is this: the Commission Report did not properly investigate 9/11. 84% of Americans don't believe the official story. We live in a democracy. We as citizens must demand a new investigation. Some article by a Rolling Stone writer making fun of the Truth Movement is pretty insignificant. If you want to study disinfo/psych ops/ gatekeeping go right ahead. But personally I believe all the mechanisms of our society that allowed 9/11 + Iraq to happen will all be exposed and studied for centuries to come. Politicians can only do so much when the majority wants something. Look at all the congressmen who flipped on Iraq. Even the guy who invented 'freedom fries' is now opposed to the Iraq War. We can do this. Stop getting bogged down. If anyone is a disinfo agent it is the people who seem to be trying to stall this movement by getting us to be suspect of each other like the days of McCarthyism.

suspicion doesn't stall the movement

It just makes it more colorful and exciting. :) Seriously though, everything with moderation--er... ALMOST everything with moderation I mean. I don't want to start a flame war, but look--the fact that we know disinfo and psy-ops and infiltration are real, and that we choose to keep that in people's minds as we work towards an awakening is a good thing. Eliminating the culture of secrecy that enables the real criminals to go free while relatively innocent people are jailed by the millions means we have to be willing to disagree vocally. If we can't avoid being "divided and conquered" because we insist on disagreeing with what we believe to be false, then we are failing. I don't think that's happening at all. I think we are succeeding beyond what anyone believed we would, and that hasw a lot to do with the liberarian streak that infuses the movement with a spirit of defiance that has been so lacking in American politics. This is a sea-change happening as people wake up from their corporate induced stupors to once again be fully functioning individuals. To quote the great Rumsfeld, "this is what free people do". Free people also hang their leaders once in a while. While I personally would prefer to subject those disgraced by their crimes to live long lives of scorn and ridicule in a very restrictive environment, the energy bred by freedom of thought is something to embrace and wield for the common good.

With 911blogger and posts

With 911blogger and posts like this, why do I have to pick up the NYT? Great article.

I love the title of this post...

as well as the beginning essay....

....what a giveaway....

These people just keep recycling their "fixers" to cover-up their crimes....

Same with the CIA nominees

Same with the CIA nominees Bush seems to favour all the time: The FBI doesn't seem to be that deep "in the know" about the 9/11 LIE, and some FBI or DOD man might start asking question about what happened on 9/11. But with CIA people like Negroponte and Hayden, Gates etc., this is no problem: they executed the 9/11 coup for him, they were paid for it, so they will stay loyal to Bush by pretending there were no problem.

"Let's get political and

"Let's get political and stop ranting about 'leftist gatekeepers'"

You're right. Let's stop ranting about them and actually STOP them. They, the leftist gatekeepers, are the primary obstacle to getting 9/11 truth to the progressive masses. There are STILL many anti-war advocates (no longer "activists" anymore, really) who still refuse to call for a new investigation).
So not in that sense that you apparently mean, but yes, let's stop ranting about leftwing gatekeepers and being FORCING them. Yes. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to clarify this.
