One large group of new additions to the 9/11 Timeline this week concerns London-based imam Abu Hamza al-Masri, a key figure in the global militant network and an informer for the British security services.

The largest chunk of new entries this week deal with al-Qaeda in Southeast Asia in general and the 2002 Bali bombings in particular. A 1994 phone tap in the Philippines indicated that Hambali, a leader of the al-Qaeda affiliate Jemaah Islamiya (JI), was involved in the Bojinka+plot, and after he was arrested in 2003 President Bush falsely+promised+he+could+be+tried+in+Indonesia, where Jemaah Islamiya attacked+the+Philippine+ambassador+in+2000. Al-Qaeda-linked figures also helped militant+Islamists+fight+Christians+in+the+spice+islands in 2000-2001, and the US unsuccessfully pressured Indonesia to allow the rendition+of+JI's+spiritual+leader in 2002.

Bush's Endless Hypocrisy on Terror

Is a government guilty of terrorism if it harbors known terrorists? What should one say about a country that permits open fund-raising on behalf of a terrorist implicated in the mass killing of civilians?

What about a government that secretly arms a guerrilla army that wantonly kills and abuses civilians while seeking to overthrow an elected government?

If your answer to those questions is to recite George W. Bush’s dictum that a government that harbors or helps terrorists should be punished just like the terrorists, then you must turn your wrath on the U.S. government and the Bush family -- guilty on all the above points.

But the U.S. political/media system continues to view the world through a cracked lens that focuses outrage on “enemy” regimes while refracting away a comparable fury from similar actions by U.S. officials.

More material has been added covering the NSA's surveillance of Ahmed al-Hada, father-in-law of alleged Pentagon hijacker Khalid Almihdhar. Both President+Bush and Vice+President+Cheney used the non-exploitation of calls between his phone in Yemen and the hijackers in the US to justify the NSA's warrantless wiretapping program in January 2006. Attorney General Michael Mukasey and Director of National Intelligence Michael McConnell attributed the failure to trace the calls to a 1981+executive+order earlier this year, and Mukasey bizarrely then claimed that one of the calls was between the US and Afghanistan,+rather+than+Yemen. This confused+the+media+somewhat, and a group+of+congressmen asked Mukasey for an explanation.

There are additional entries about the day of 9/11. A senior official later+disputed+Richard+Clarke's+account of the day's events, some Pentagon security cameras did+not+show+the+crash+site, and the fighters who later responded to the Pentagon attack attended+anti-terrorism+training earlier in the day. There is a dispute over which+gate+American+11+left+from at Boston airport, where suspicious+passengers arrived on September 10, when Larry Silverstein's publicist cancelled+an+appointment+at+the+WTC for 9/11. Other entries point out United+93's+autopilot+was+turned+off, top air force officials continued+with+a+meeting when they learned the WTC had been hit, and crew on United 93 had previously attended antiterrorism+training. Pilots on American+77, American+11 and United+93, were allocated to their flights shortly before 9/11.

In a recent speech at San Francisco’s Commonwealth Club, Attorney General Michael Mukasey defended the Bush-Cheney administration’s illegal domestic spying agenda by proclaiming that the 9/11 attacks could have been prevented if the government had been able to monitor overseas phone calls to the United States.

Like every other member of the Bush-Cheney administration, Mukasey is lying. Lying about the fact that the “war on terrorism” is a fabrication. Lying about the pervasive worldwide eavesdropping capabilities of US intelligence agencies. Lying about the fact that 9/11 was a long-planned Anglo-American false flag covert operation.

According to Mukasey’s spin on the now-classic 9/11 fiction, Bush-Cheney “knew there had been a call from some place that was known to be a safe house in Afghanistan and we knew that it came to the United States. We didn’t know precisely where it went. We’ve got 3,000 people who went to work that day, and didn’t come home, to show for that.”

Ex-C.I.A. Aide Won’t Testify on Tapes Without Immunity

Apparently, Osama bin Laden and former CIA agent Michael Scheuer have a mutual respect for each other's intellect. In one of bin Laden's latest videos, he said,

"If you would like to get to know some of the reasons for your losing of your war against us, then read the book of Michael Scheuer in this regard."

Here is Scheuer's take on Osama:

"For nearly a decade now, bin Laden demonstrated patience, brilliant planning, managerial expertise, sound strategic and tactical sense, admirable character traits, eloquence, and focused, limited war aims. He has never, to my knowledge, behaved or spoken in a way that could be described as irrational in the extreme."

Here we have a "former" CIA man, claiming to be an opponent of administration war policies, speaking as a foremost expert on bin Laden, because of his position on the "bin Laden unit." He validates the latest bin Laden videos with his expertise, without ever acknowledging facts about al Qaida and their leader – the nature of the real threat vs. the created perception, the death of bin Laden, al Qaida the database, the builders and instructors of the Pakistani/Afghani insurgent training camps. In his book Imperial Hubris, written under the penname "Anonymous," Scheuer paints a shocking portrait of camps that he claims were built by bin Laden, when, in truth, he knows that these are all CIA built facilities, including the notorious Tora Bora (where bin Laden is allegedly buried), the camps in the Swat Valley in Northwest Pakistan, the scene of ongoing confrontations and under the watchful eyes of a new American super base which is under construction near there...

Why is the mainstream press considering the possibility that Pakistani intelligence agencies were behind the Bhutto killing? According to the Guardian, Pakistan’s intelligence agencies “are widely believed to carry out kidnappings, unlawful detentions and extrajudicial killings. The speed with which the government accused al-Qaida did little to allay fears of state involvement, and conflicting accounts of the cause of death have convinced many of a cover-up.”

Yet, as everyone knows, U.S. intelligence agencies, especially the CIA, have long been involved in the same sort of nefarious activities — kidnappings, torture, coups, murder, and assassinations, even as far back as the Kennedy administration.

This story contains classic examples of the psy-ops/disinformation techniques of "limited hang-out," "misdirection," "delay, delay, delay," and just getting the details of the matter so bollixed up the public will become confused and go away.

Here's a pretty good definition of "limited hang-out": A limited hangout is a form of deception, misdirection, or coverup often associated with intelligence agencies involving a release or "mea culpa" type of confession of only part of a set of previously hidden sensitive information, that establishes credibility for the one releasing the information who by the very act of confession appears to be "coming clean" and acting with integrity; but in actuality by withholding key facts is protecting a deeper crime and those who could be exposed if the whole truth came out.

What's the "whole truth?" The official story of 9/11 is false. Yes, we all know that, but this is a very big nail in its coffin. This is a big story and should be followed closely. This is also a good "detail" to bring up with friends who are still lost in the woods. Alvin

WASHINGTON — A review of classified documents by former members of the Sept. 11 commission shows that the panel made repeated and detailed requests to the Central Intelligence Agency in 2003 and 2004 for documents and other information about the interrogation of operatives of Al Qaeda, and were told by a top C.I.A. official that the agency had “produced or made available for review” everything that had been requested.

I have confirmed that the DOJ document does reveal what is claimed in this article. Specifically: the FBI informant and "asset" that lived with 2 alleged 9/11 hijackers was paid $100.000 in 2003 for unspecified reasons, even though he refused to meet with Congressional investigators and even with DOJ Inspector General investigators.

Others have described this as the FBI "hiding" him.

As most of us know two hijackers involved in 9/11, Khalid Almidhar and Nawaf Alhazmi, were living with an FBI informant in San Diego.

Naomi says it all..almost. She leaves out one crucial point, however--those "confessions" are also central to the government story on 9/11. She does hint about it, though (see boldface type below). Naomi, why the reticence on 9/11? Why keep playing that game? Don't write for Alexander Cockburn, Amy Goodman, Noam Chomsky, Justin Raimondo, or whomever. Just tell the truth. To judge from firsthand documents obtained by the ACLU through a FOIA lawsuit, we can guess what is probably on the missing CIA interrogation tapes -- as well as understand why those implicated are spinning so hard to pretend the tapes do not document a series of evident crimes.

...What we are likely to see if the tapes documenting the interrogation of Abu Zubaydah and Abd Al-Rahim Al-Nashiri are ever recovered is that the "confessions" of the prisoners upon which the White House has built its entire case for subverting the Constitution and suspending civil liberties in this country was obtained through methods such as electrocution, beating to the point of organ failure, hanging prisoners from the wrists from a ceiling, suffocation, and threats against family members ("I am going to find your mother and I am going to fuck her" is one direct quote from a US interrogator). On the missing tapes, we would likely see responses from the prisoners that would be obvious to us as confessions to anything at all in order to end the violence. In other words, if we could witness the drama of manufacturing by torture the many violently coerced "confessions" upon which the whole house of cards of this White House and its hyped "war on terror" rests, it would likely cause us to reopen every investigation, including the most serious ones (remember, even the 9/11 committee did not receive copies of the tapes); shut down the corrupt, Stalinesque Military Commissions System; turn over prisoners, the guilty and the innocent, into a working, accountable justice system operating in accordance with American values; and direct our legal scrutiny to the torturers themselves -- right up to the office of the Vice President and the President if that is where the investigations would lead.

Meanwhile, the International Herald Tribune reports "the former chairmen of the Sept. 11 commission, who said the CIA assured them repeatedly during their inquiry that no original material existed from its interrogations of Qaeda figures, said they were furious to learn about the tapes ...
