Complete 9/11 Timeline

History Commons May Disappear

What is the History Commons?* One of the most important and invisible, useful and unknown websites on the internet — and without better funding, it may disappear from the web. You might not have heard of it, but it’s been used and referenced by an array of well-known investigative authors and journalists, including Glenn Greenwald, Craig Unger, James Ridgeway and Peter Lance; see section at this article’s end. HistoryCommons.org is a documentation & research tool driven by a relational database and public input, with editorial oversight. It’s proof-in-practice of the Mosaic Theory of Intelligence Gathering, but for the public interest, the people, our posterity and future generations. HistoryCommons.org is best known for the Complete 9/11 Timeline, but the site hosts over 30 timeline projects on diverse subjects such as elections, wars and foreign interventions, civil liberties, health care, climate change, and other important domestic and foreign policy issues.

Complete 9/11 Timeline in Urgent Need of Donations

History Commons, the website that hosts the Complete 9/11 Timeline, is currently low on funds and urgently needs donations in order to meet its operations costs and develop its activities. In particular, History Commons is currently working on a new version of its crowdsource journalism app that should make it easy for people to collaborate on investigative efforts

The Complete 9/11 Timeline is a unique resource, which contains a huge amount of information relating to the 9/11 attacks. It includes over a thousand entries detailing the day of September 11, 2001, alone. It has the most detailed accounts of the numerous training exercises taking place on September 11 and the relevant training exercises held in the years leading up to 9/11. It has sections devoted to the official investigations of 9/11, such as the 9/11 Commission and the various investigations of the World Trade Center collapses, as well as much more.

Recent updates have included entries covering important topics such as the phone calls made by flight attendants Betty Ong and Amy Sweeney from the hijacked Flight 11; the conflicting orders and announcements that were made, regarding whether people should evacuate the World Trade Center; the actions of Laura Bush, the wife of President Bush, on September 11; and the actions of the Secret Service agents responsible for protecting Vice President Dick Cheney and his wife, Lynne Cheney, on September 11.

It is important that History Commons has the necessary funds to continue. If you would like to make a donation (by credit card, PayPal, or check), click here.

New 9/11 Timeline Entries: Flight Attendants' Phone Calls, American Airlines Response to Hijacking, Bush's Military Aides & More

From the History Commons Groups blog:

A large number of entries have been added to the Complete 9/11 Timeline at History Commons. Many of these examine the response of American Airlines to the hijacking of Flight 11, the first plane to hit the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. Entries focus, in particular, on phone calls made from Flight 11 by two of the plane's flight attendants: Betty Ong and Amy Sweeney.

A new timeline entry describes how Peggy Houck, a dispatcher at the American Airlines System Operations Control (SOC) center in Texas, received her first indication of a problem with Flight 11 when another American Airlines flight contacted her at 8:20 a.m. and said air traffic controllers had asked it to try to contact Flight 11.

New 9/11 Timeline Entries: Military Exercises, Air Force Response to Attacks, and More

From the History Commons Groups blog:

Many new entries have been added to the Complete 9/11 Timeline at History Commons, most of them describing events that took place on the day of 9/11.

Two important entries deal with events before 9/11, specifically regarding military training exercises. One entry reveals that prior to 9/11, NORAD practiced for hijackings five times per month at its operations center in Colorado. The other entry describes how, in the days before 9/11, the Army had been planning an exercise for the week after 9/11, based, remarkably, on the scenario of a plane crashing into the World Trade Center.

New Entries Added to the Complete 9/11 Timeline

From the History Commons Groups blog:

A large number of new entries have been added to the Complete 9/11 Timeline at History Commons. Most of these describe events from the day of 9/11 itself, although a few entries look at pre-9/11 and post-9/11 events.

One new entry reveals that in April 2001, CIA counterterrorism chief Cofer Black warned that "something big [is] coming and that it very likely could be in the US." Then, about a month before 9/11, White House counterterrorism chief Richard Clarke visited Wall Street, to investigate the security precautions there.

Cheney's in the Bunker - A Song with Footnotes

Secretary of Transportation, Norman Mineta's testimony was omitted from the final 9/11 Commission Report. But David Ray Griffin found it in the May 2003 Commission Staff Report. And it was on C-SPAN, which led it to being posted by many people many times on YouTube and other video sharing sites. Griffin's book, The 9/11 Commission Report: Omissions & Distortions, was the inspiration for these lyrics, which I later made into a video. Maybe some of you will use it and pass it on!

Cheney’s in the bunker …now we’re under attack (1)
Someone seized our jets... in a terror hijack…
They flew into the Towers with a mighty impact
The Trade Center fell in a total collapse…
Now Bush is in the classroom for a photo-op show…
The story of the goat is what he wants “kids” to know
The day is Nine-Eleven… year Two-Thousand and One
Now who the hell’s attacking us, and what’s to be done?

Chorus:

"Do the orders still stand, sir? Do the orders still stand?
Do the orders still stand, sir? Do the orders still stand?
Do the orders still stand?”

Anthrax, Steven Hatfill, and More: Additions to the Complete 9/11 Timeline as of August 17, 2008

Most of the new entries published by the 9/11 Timeline this week deal with the anthrax scare. The main drug used to combat anthrax was Cipro, which a high government official advised some reporters to take shortly after 9/11. Although an inquiry was launched into a coverup of problems with it in May 2000, the FDA endorsed the drug two months later. Hoax letters similar to the later anthrax mailings were sent to Fox News from 2000, and one may have been received by a Florida tabloid in mid-September 2001.
