January 18, 2008 -- TOM Cruise brands federal officials "liars" and takes credit for saving the lives of hundreds of supposedly poisoned workers at Ground Zero in a wacky new Scientology video.

In the promotional tape, the star states, with a scary gleam in his eye: "A Scientologist is someone who can look at the world and really see what it is . . . and be effective and do something about it and someone who's not asking permission to do that. Why ask permission? We are the authorities!" See clips from the video HERE.

A review of Dust to Dust: the health effects of 9/11
A film by Heidi Dehncke-Fisher

What makes this documentary, Dust to Dust: the health effects of 9/11, so special is not just the chilling statistics it displays onscreen about the poisonous brew of materials that fell on Ground Zero and the surrounding neighborhoods; what makes this piece so affecting is the heart-rending testimony of the warm-bodied victims of 9/11’s fall-out, now living through a second round of slaughter, sadly their own.

MONROE TWP. Since 9/11, many first-responders have had to fight for medical benefits and workman's compensation for the injuries and illnesses they suffered, and a local group of fifth-graders have joined in with them.

The students of Doris Freeman's fifth-grade class are raising awareness of the rescue workers' plight and encouraging people to contribute to their cause.

"We researched how many first responders are now suffering from lung and kidney conditions and how the government often refused to help them," said fifth-grader Gianna Massi.

"We're trying to get people to realize this and to make donations to the Feal Good Foundation so they can be helped."

US presidential hopefuls 'wrong' to play 9/11 card

US presidential hopefuls 'wrong' to play 9/11 card
http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2007/11/30/2106412.htm

"More than six years after the terrorist attacks on the United States, September 11 is playing a major role in the 2008 race for the White House. New York's mayor on that day, current Republican front-runner Rudy Giuliani, is touting his response to the attacks as an example of his ability to lead during a time of crisis. But a small group of firefighters and their families say they are appalled that the presidential contender is playing the 9/11 card."

"But Mr Giuliani is not the only presidential candidate who refers to September 11. New York Senator Hillary Clinton has woven it into her campaign ads too. She stood by Ground Zero workers who sacrificed their health after so many sacrificed their lives and kept," one campaign ad said."

"But a 10-member strong group of firefighters and their families are accusing Mr Giuliani of using those deaths to advance his presidential ambitions.
Jim Riches is the New York Fire Department's deputy chief, and his firefighter son Jimmy was killed on September 11. Mr Riches says lives were lost because Mr Giuliani did not provide firefighters with adequate radios. "He's politicised 9/11 from day one," he said. "He's made millions, tens of millions of dollars speaking about 9/11, when the only thing he did that day was get on TV, calm the nation and tell everybody everything would be all right and we'd pull through this. That's all he did." His group is now raising money to run TV ads against the former mayor in Iowa and New Hampshire - the two states which kick off the presidential nomination race. "We are trying to let everybody know exactly what happened that day, to set the record straight on 9/11 that this man was no hero," he added."

NYC Mayor Takes Heat Over 'Hero' Remark on 911 1st Responder James Zadroga

NYC Mayor Takes Heat Over 'Hero' Remark

http://wearechange.org/

By SARA KUGLER Associated Press Writer

NEW YORK — City police unions and the family of a dead police detective who worked on Sept. 11 cleanup called Tuesday for Mayor Michael Bloomberg to apologize for saying the officer is "not a hero" because his death was ruled unrelated to the toxic debris.

Speaking Monday to students at Harvard University, Bloomberg was asked about the idea of applying hard science to public policy. In his answer, he brought up Chief Medical Examiner Charles Hirsch's recent conclusion that retired police detective James Zadroga's fatal lung disease was caused not by dust from the collapse of the World Trade Center but by self-administered injections of ground-up pills.

"Nobody wanted to hear that; we wanted to have a hero, and there are plenty of heroes,"
Bloomberg said. "It's just, in this case, science says this was not a hero."

9/11 first responder home to be sold at auction 10/30 because of unpaid medical claims

http://www.michaelmoore.com/words/latestnews/print.php?id=10451

BARNEGAT TOWNSHIP, NJ - Charles Giles has endured failing health, mounting medical bills and limitations to life as he knew it before Sept. 11, 2001.

Soon, he might add homelessness to the list.

When Giles, then an EMT, responded to the disaster scene at the World Trade Center more than six years ago, he didn't think it would later cost him his home.

But days of inhaling fumes at the site continue to provoke health problems that have prevented Giles from working. The problems were compounded by unanswered medical claims.

Family hardships that began with cutting out cable TV have culminated in their home's foreclosure in March and impending sheriff's sale Oct. 30.

Ocean County sheriff's records show Giles appealed the sale and that the sheriff's office twice delayed the sale originally set for Aug. 21. Judge Fred A. Buczynski pushed the date from Sept. 18 to Oct. 30.

Giles said he hopes to block the sale by filing suit against Wachovia Bank for alleged missteps in their dealings with him but acknowledged that it would likely take a "miracle" to prevent the auction.
